- "Just one more round, friend. Then homeward bound, friend. Don't forget me in your dreams."
- ―Ackmena the bartender, singing to this Gotal and a group of other intoxicated aliens
A male Gotal[1][2] sat drinking in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, a bar in Tatooine's Mos Eisley Spaceport, shortly after the Battle of Yavin. He shared a table with the Rodian Bludlow as the cantina's happenings began to be recorded and broadcast across the galaxy as part of the holodocumentary Life on Tatooine. When an officer of the Galactic Empire appeared on the cantina's wallscreen and announced that a curfew was being imposed on the Tatoo system, the Gotal was one of many patrons who refused to leave the establishment and instead demanded another round of alcohol. Ackmena, the bartender, acquiesced to their requests, and sang the song "Goodnight, But Not Goodbye" while serving them. After the Gotal was brought another drink, he joined the rest of the cantina's denizens in dancing to the music and waltzing out the door.[1]
Behind the scenes
Edit
This Gotal appeared as a background alien in the cantina scene of 1978's The Star Wars Holiday Special,[1] and was played by an uncredited actor.[3] Feltipern Trevagg, another Gotal, appeared in the same cantina in the 1977 film Star Wars, set earlier in the timeline,[4] and the Holiday Special re-used several alien masks and costumes from that movie's cantina scene.[5] However, the 1995 short story Nightlily: The Lovers' Tale established that Trevagg died during the events of Star Wars, precluding he and this Gotal from being one and the same.[6] Nevertheless, a photo of the unidentified Gotal was mistakenly used to represent Trevagg in Star Wars Insider 48's edition of the recurring Insider feature "The Last Page."[7]
