"But Lord Vader--without the plans we don't know how to operate the battle station. Er . . we're as good as powerless."
―Imperial commander[1]

Some time during the Galactic Civil War, this Imperial commander was stationed on the first Death Star. He greeted Darth Vader upon the latter's arrival at the battle station, but was then informed that the Rebel Alliance had stolen the Death Star plans. The commander attempted to explain that neither he nor the stationed personnel know how to operate the Death Star without the plans, causing Vader to supply him with a book containing a full list of the battle station's functions. While studying the book, the commander stumbled upon the thermal exhaust port of the station, and noted its vulnerability.

Behind the scenes[]

The Imperial commander appeared in the comic An Imperial Advertorial, which acted as an advertisement for the Death Star Owner's Technical Manual.
