"The jungle barbarians have not been around for more than three hundred years. Their language was long ago absorbed by the mountain Mooloolian tribes—"
―C-3PO[src]

A sentient species of jungle barbarians inhabited Janguine,[2] a planet located in the Halthor sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[3] They shared the planet with the Mooloolian tribes, which occupied the mountainous regions of the planet.[1] The jungle barbarians eventually vanished, and their language was absorbed by the Mooloolian tribes by the year 275 BBY.[4] In 25 ABY, the protocol droid C-3PO speculated that the language of the jungle barbarians was related to that used by a newly encountered species, the Yuuzhan Vong;[1] however, this later proved groundless as the Yuuzhan Vong's origins were extra-galactic.[5]

Behind the scenes

R. A. Salvatore created the jungle barbarians for his novel The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime, published by Del Rey in 1999. They were also mentioned in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, published in 2008, which specified that the barbarians were a distinct species. It is possible that the Mooloolian tribes were a cultural group of the same species; however, this has not been canonically established.
