An R2 unit was used by Wes Janson during a battle over Gall. It was programmed by the traitorous Viera Cheran, Chief Technician for Rogue Squadron, to take over control of Janson's X-wing fighter and shoot down Luke Skywalker. It failed, as Skywalker was able to disable Janson's fighter.
