This pilot was present at the briefing in the Great Temple on Yavin 4 prior to the Battle of Yavin during the Galactic Civil War. He was one of the pilots briefed by Jan Dodonna before the attack on the Death Star.
Behind the scenes
Edit
John Chapman played this pilot in A New Hope. He was one of the pilots in a scene set in the Rebel briefing room that was eventually cut from the final movie. This character was named Gil "Drifter" Viray by Chapman himself. Fans debate whether or not "Drifter" survived the Battle of Yavin, since Chapman is seen again at the medal ceremony after the battle. It was also suggested he flew under the call sign Red Twelve, but that pilot has since been revealed to be Puck Naeco.
