"Perhaps a different strategy. We need to take more time and plan."
―The navigation officer, to Ahsoka Tano — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

A clone naval officer was stationed aboard the Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer Resolute during the Clone Wars. In 22 BBY, the Star Destroyer joined a fleet under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Admiral Wullf Yularen—the cruiser's deck officer—to eliminate a Confederate blockade surrounding the planet Ryloth. After the Resolute's first attempt failed, the navigation officer conferred with Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano and Clone Captain CT-7567 on a strategy for a second assault. During the planning, the clone accidentally let slip his doubt in Tano and remained uncertain with Tano's plan of employing a risky Marg Sabl maneuver. However, Tano's strategy proved successful and ultimately allowed the Republic to invade and liberate Ryloth.

During the Clone Wars, a clone trooper served as a naval officer in the Republic Navy.[3] At some point, the clone navigation officer was assigned to the Venator-class Star Destroyer Resolute.[4] In 22 BBY,[5] the officer was deployed with a Republic fleet of three Venator-class Star Destroyers—under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker; his Padawan, Commander Ahsoka Tano; and Admiral Wullf Yularen, the Resolute's deck officer—to eliminate the Confederate blockade surrounding the planet Ryloth. Tano, in her first command position, led a squadron of starfighters to attack the blockade. However, the arrival of Confederate reinforcements caused the Republic's offensive to backfire. Confederate Vulture droids began suicide attacks on the Republic Star Destroyers, and Yularen was severely injured. Returning to the fleet, Tano's unit was almost completely eradicated. The cruisers Resolute and Defender were damaged and forced to retreat, while the cruiser Redeemer fell apart under heavy fire.[2]

Rex Ahsoka Storm Over Ryloth

The officer confers with Tano and Rex on the bridge of the Resolute.

After taking a count of the losses and treating the wounded, Skywalker devised a plan to pilot the damaged Defender alone and ram it into the lead Confederate ship, eliminating the blockade's commander and leaving battle droids in control of the blockade. Once Skywalker had departed, the clone naval officer joined Tano and Clone Captain CT-7567, nicknamed "Rex," on the bridge of the Resolute, and began to devise a plan to take out the remaining Confederate frigates in the blockade.[2]

During the planning, the naval officer accidentally let slip his doubt in Tano's abilities, stating that while Skywalker's strategy was bold, they usually had Skywalker to lead them—and that the Jedi General's command of the attack would have ensured its success. He apologized to Tano, not meaning to cause her any offense. After Tano presented a plan to angle the hull of the Resolute toward the blockade—allowing starfighters to be launched, and drawing the Confederate frigates in with a classic Marg Sabl maneuver—the officer was doubtful of the Jedi's plan, believing that more time and planning was needed to perform a successful attack. However, a revived Yularen supported Tano, and the Padawan was able to secure the defeat of the blockade, allowing Republic reinforcements to land on Ryloth[2] and liberate the planet from Confederate rule.[6]

Personality and traits[]

"Yes, but normally we have General Skywalker to lead us and… I meant no offense, Commander."
"None taken."
―The naval officer accidentally lets slip his doubt in Ahsoka Tano — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

The naval officer was uncertain of Ahsoka Tano's abilities and accidentally revealed his doubts while planning a counterattack with Captain Rex and Tano, although he apologized. The clone later suggested to Tano that she take more time to plan a strategy, instead of developing a bold plan that maneuvered the Resolute so that it was completely vulnerable to attack.[2] As a clone of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett,[7] the naval officer had black hair, brown eyes, tan skin,[2] and stood 1.83 meters tall.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The naval officer, along with all other clones in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, and the officer made his first appearance in the series' first season episode "Storm Over Ryloth" as an unidentified character. During the episode, he served as a minor character who helped to expand upon Ahsoka Tano's insecurity with her first position of command.[4]
