"This creature means no harm. It's just frightened and confused. It doesn't know where it is, or why we are here."
―Luke Skywalker[1]

A monster species inhabited the jungle moon Yavin 4. It was large, with shaggy hair and tusks, and hunted in the jungle. In 23 ABY, one creature attacked the spacer Peckhum outside the Jedi Praxeum but was sent back into the jungle by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Biology and appearance[]

The species had a triangular head on a squarish body with shaggy hair. Twelve tentacles covered its face, with each ending in an eye with a slitted pupil. It had long and sharp tusks in its mouth, was as large as a shuttle, and had six large legs.[1]

Behavior[]

The species sought out prey in the jungles of the moon Yavin 4, which it inhabited. When angered or startled, the monster would let out a loud, high-pitched trumpet sound.[1]

History[]

"Last time we saw you, Peckhum, you were cornered by a jungle monster on Yavin."
―Jaina Solo[2]

In 23 ABY, the spacer Peckhum landed his supply shuttle, the Lightning Rod, on Yavin 4 during one of his supply runs to the Jedi Praxeum and was attacked by one such monster. He grabbed his blaster rifle in order to defend himself, but Jedi Master Luke Skywalker realized that the monster was not attacking him but was simply confused, and he flung Peckhum's weapon from his hands. After Skywalker calmed the monster, to the amazement of his Jedi students Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, and Tenel Ka, as well as Peckhum, the monster ran back into the jungle to seek out different prey.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The monster first appeared in Young Jedi Knights: Heirs of the Force, which was written by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta, and released in 1995.[1]
