The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on official information from the Star Wars Legends continuity, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

A sentient cephalopod species existed that had one eye mounted on a single eyestalk[1] and a mouth with appendages on both sides at the base of their eyestalk. The species had anterior flipper-like appendages and a long, flexible tail.[2] At least one member had reddish-brown skin with black stripes and a hazel eye.[1] They were similar to the dianoga,[2] a species native to the planet Vodran.[3] The species'[2] culture controlled their environment through terraforming abilities.[1]

Niado Duegad was a Force-attuned male member of the species who hailed from the dianoga's homeworld. During the Galactic Civil War, Duegad worked as a mercenary, and his enhanced adrenal glands allowed for short bursts of incredible strength.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The species originated as one of several alien maquettes created for possible inclusion in the scenes taking place in Jabba the Hutt's desert palace during the production stages of 1983's original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Known as "Alien 18," the maquette was among the ones scrapped before the film's release as its non-humanoid nature made it too difficult to realize as a puppet.[4] In 1998, the Special Edition Limited expansion set of Decipher, Inc.'s Star Wars Customizable Card Game made a card for Niado Duegad, showing an image of the maquette and thus bringing the species into the Star Wars Legends continuity.[1]
