Unmaskers were Yuuzhan Vong creatures used to detect and remove ooglith masquers. They were bred so that they only responded to Yuuzhan Vong handlers, making them useless to other species. The ill-tempered beasts had the unique ability to sense ooglith masquers and would attack one if given the chance. This lust struck fear into the masquer, which would remove itself from the wearer and flee from the potential predator. The unmasker was a sharp-toothed creature with a bristly neck and was observed by some to resemble the "offspring of a ng'ok and a quillarat."

An unmasker and a Yuuzhan Vong handler were employed by the Peace Brigade during their mission to apprehend the priestess Elan aboard the Queen of Empire.
