"Rogue Squadron, this is General Rieekan. A Rebel ship called the Nonnah recently crashed somehwere in this vicinity. It was carrying a team of Rebel soldiers and stolen Imperial equipment. You must find them before the Imperials do."
The Search for the Nonnah was an operation approximately six months ABY. During a battle with Imperial forces over Chorax, the Rebel Alliancestarship named Nonnah was damaged and forced to make a crash landing on the surface of the planet. The Nonnah, which carried stolen Imperial equipment and Rebel troops, was considered vital by both the Alliance and the Empire. The ensuing search for the crashed ship took place in the river valleys of the planet.
The Alliance sent Rogue Squadron, led by Luke Skywalker, and an evacuation shuttle to rescue the survivors; the Empire sent a squadron of TIE bombers along with a Sentinel-class landing craft carrying a ground strike force to destroy the ship and prevent the stolen equipment from falling into the Rebellion's hands. Rogue Squadron stalled the bombing runs and ground forces long enough to allow the safe escape of the shuttle carrying the survivors.
After the successful Battle of Barkhesh around six months after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance forged ahead on worlds marginalized by the Galactic Empire. In one case, the Rebels pushed their luck too far, and pilots of Rogue Squadron were called to clean up the mess.[4] The starshipNonnah, which carried stolen Imperial equipment and Rebel troops had crash-landed in the river valleys on the planetChorax. The cargo onboard the ship was severely valuable to the Empire, but rather then attempting to retrieve the cargo, the Empire decided to attempt to destroy it to prevent it from falling into Rebel hands.[3]
Rogue Squadron, flying A-wings and led by CommanderLuke Skywalker, went to Chorax to retrieve the equipment and troops before the Imperials could find them. Imperial forces set out to find the Nonnah at the sime time as the Rebels. At the northern lake, numerous Imperial Probe Droids surrounded the area.[3]
As Rogue Squadron flew down a canyon close to the Nonnah's position, six TIE Interceptors attacked straight-on. The Rogues engaged the TIEs, shooting down several of them. The Rebel pilots also engaged the probe droids. The opposing sides had three possible crash sites nearby to search. Soon after the opening dogfight, the Nonnah was located at one of the crash sites. The Rogues and Imperials traveled to the site of the wrecked starship, which was buried stern-down in the water. An Imperial Sentinel-class landing craft put down on land across from the Nonnah and disgored an AT-ST walker as well as 3 XR-85 tank droids to attack the Rebels. The Rogues destroyed the Imperial forces as a Rebel Lambda-class shuttle went to the surface to rescue the crew of the Nonnah. Eight TIE/sa bombers reinforced the Imperial task force and began bombing runs on the Nonnah and the rescue shuttle. Skywalker launched his craft's concussion missiles to destroy the AT-ST before engaging the tank droids.[3]
In pairs, TIE bombers began their first attack run. As the second wave moved into attack position, the landing craft deployed three AT-PTs to provide additional firepower for the bombers. Despite overwhelming odds, the Rogues managed to shoot down all the TIE bombers and held off the other Imperial forces long enough for the shuttle to complete the evacuation.[3]
As the shuttle prepared to leave, another squadron of TIE interceptors pursued it. Rogue Squadron managed to escort the shuttle to the extraction point, and the survivors were successfully rescued. Once the shuttle had escaped, General Rieekan ordered Skywalker to lead the Rogues away from the battle site. As Skywalker and the Rogues escorted the shuttle away, Skywakler executed a barrel roll.[3]
Rogue Squadron successfully completed their mission, and the survivors and cargo of the Nonnah were successfully extracted. Soon after the mission was completed, Rogue flight was once again called into duty when the Imperial general Crix Madine requested an appointment with General Rieekan on Corellia.[3]
The search for the ship Nonnah is the subject of the third mission of the 1998video gameStar Wars: Rogue Squadron, titled "The Search for the Nonnah". The player's default craft is the A-wing, equipped with lasers and missiles to target Imperial forces.[3] The game's official guide outlines the background information to the mission and suggests the player target the TIE interceptors to protect his wingman, as well as accurately targeting lots of enemy units. The player will fail the mission if the evacuation shuttle is destroyed.[4]
"I've received word an Imperial officer, Crix Madine, wants to defect. Apparently he has a lot of information on the Empire's military ground operations. I'm gonna contact him after my meeting with the city officials in the capital tower. Keep your eyes open for any sign of trouble."
An Imperial strike team interrupted the meeting and attempted to kill both Rieekan and the Imperial turncoat by destroying the Tech Center and the Coronet Capital Tower while they were still inside. The timely intervention of Han Solo and Chewbacca in the Millennium Falcon, as well as the arrival of evacuation shuttles, allowed for the Alliance to extract both Rieekan and Madine just before the Capital Tower collapsed.
Madine attempted to defect to the Alliance prior to the Battle of Yavin, and, to prove his loyalty, Madine provided essential guidance for the sabotage of Operation Strike Fear and the destruction of the Star DestroyerInvincible. However, it was the order to release the Candorian Plague on Dentaal that convinced Madine it was time to leave for good.[2]
Wracked with guilt over his role in the death of the entire Dentaalian population, Madine left his unit while performing a training mission in 1.8 ABY. Madine erased himself from Imperial records, although his disappearance was covered by some HoloNet news channels. He did not even tell his fiancée where he was going, not wanting to place her in a dangerous situation.[2]
During this period, Madine provided clues to the Rebellion about the Dark Trooper project; eventually he was captured by General Rom Mohc and imprisoned in Orinackra, where he awaited execution. Upon learning of his capture, Mon Mothma dispatched Kyle Katarn to rescue Madine, who revealed Mohc's role in the project. He also provided the Alliance with intelligence on two subsequent targets to sabotage the Dark Trooper project.[3]
Following his escape from Orinackra, Madine fled to his safehouse on Corellia. From there, he requested a meeting with GeneralCarlist Rieekan of the Rebel Alliance to discuss his defection. Rieekan accepted his request and was escorted to Coronet City by Rogue Squadron, under the command of Luke Skywalker. Before meeting with Madine, Rieekan was to attend a conference with Coronet City officials in the Coronet Capital Tower.[1]
―Han Solo watching TIE Bombers destroy the Capital Tower[src]
Commander Luke Skywalker and a detachment of Rogue Squadron were assigned to patrol the city in their airspeeders for any signs of Imperial activity. After Wedge Antilles picked up strange transmissions, they flew to the outskirts of the city and found a squad of probe droids. It turned out to be a diversion, however, in which squadrons of TIE bombers attacked the Capital Tower during the Rogues' absence.[1]
Rogue Squadron rushed back to defend the city, while another squadron of bombers moved in on the Tech Center in which Madine was hiding. The Rogues had routed most of the bombers attacking the Tower before they received a transmission from Madine, stating that the Imperials had begun attacking the Center. Skywalker left to protect him, as the rest of Rogue Squadron, along with the new arrival of Han Solo and Chewbacca in the Millennium Falcon, took care of the remaining bombers at the Capital Tower.[1]
By the time the Tech Center was safe, the Imperials had deployed an AT-AT walker, which moved to attack the Tower. It was then that Luke first used Imperial defector Davin Felth's advice, and tripped up the walker with his tow cable. After the remaining bombers were destroyed, the Falcon and a Rebel Lambda-class shuttle began evacuating the Capital Tower. At the same time, stormtroopers invaded the beaches in Amphibions, but the Rebel defense batteries managed to keep most of the troops out of the city.[1]
The Imperials resumed their attack on Madine with a pair of AT-ST walkers leading another AT-AT, while a squad of Stormtroopers attempted to break into the tech center. Luke drove the Imperials off, while a second evacuation shuttle arrived to pick up Madine. With Madine's successful defection, and the evacuation of the Capital Tower, Rogue Squadron withdrew from the planet. The Capital Tower was destroyed as soon as the Rebel force departed.[1]
Rogue Squadron's mission to rescue General Rieekan and Crix Madine first appeared in the Nintendo 64 videogame Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, as the game's fifth mission, "Defection at Corellia".[1] In this level, the player for the first time is required to use the harpoon and tow cable of a T-47 airspeeder against an AT-AT in order to complete the mission successfully. As the Battle of Corellia takes place in the timeline prior to the Battle of Hoth, during which Luke Skywalker supposedly devised the strategy for downing the four-legged walkers, this element of the mission may be non-canon and chalked up to game mechanics.
Kenobi was patrolling in the Coruscant Underworld, and when returning to the Elcor Station, became involved in a fight with the Black Heth, who had taken over the Station. Kenobi cleared the wreckage blocking the transport and defeated a Trandoshangang leader. Kenobi felt something sinister in The Force regarding the attack.[8]
Kenobi then returned to the Temple and was briefed before the Jedi Council in the High Council Chamber. Windu mentioned that the Black Heth had only been involved in petty crime before that point, and that the escalation was a matter of concern. Kenobi then reported his concerns as well, and his MasterQui-Gon Jinn told him to prepare. Kenobi then dueled with a Jedi Training Droid in the Jedi Temple Sparring Arena before his assignment to the next mission.[8]
Kenobi was then assigned to rescue an[8]Coruscant Guard[14]informant who had been captured by the Black Heth. Kenobi infiltrated the construction site they were holding the informant, and avoided detection by dispatching the gang members and droids who attempted to sound the alarm. Kenobi was able to free the informant, who warned him the Black Heth was smuggling weapons to turn Coruscant into a warzone.[8]
Black Heth were buying weapons from an unknown organization and were making a pickup on Landing platform Nilat-3. Kenobi was assigned to discover the identity of the organization. Kenobi spied on the platform with macrobinoculars until a starship arrived. He reported the arrival to his Master, who ordered him to plant a tracking device. Kenobi was then spotted by the Black Heth and forced to defend himself.[8]
Additional gang members arrived, but Kenobi was able to dispatch them. He then fought several trained warriors, but defeated them and planted the tracking device.[8]
