I am a 21 year old male living on the planet Earth, in the country known as Canada, but also affectionately referred to as the Great White North or Soviet Canuckistan. Seeing Star Wars at 6 years old (in the year 1993) led to a loving relationship with the franchise. My uncle owned the original VHS copies released sometime in the 1980s. He also owned many of the early Essential Guides including Characters, Vehicles and Vessels and Weapons and Technology (the last of which I borrowed and have yet to give back, to this very day). My uncle (thank [insert deity]) also owned Star Wars: X-wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter on his PC, the latter of which became my addiction for a good year around 1995 or so. Years later, I would finally get the Internet, where I could then find out just how sad my little addiction was (relatively).

I first saw the Star Wars movies in 1993; I was 6 at the time. At that time, I immediately had an intense liking for the Jedi, Return of the Jedi and Luke Skywalker in general. I was also terrified of Darth Vader and Empire Strikes Back. At 6, I was shown the very intense scene of Luke getting his hand cut off by Darth Vader, a scene so burned into my memory that I completely washed over the fact that Vader's next groundbreaking line was so groundbreaking. I simply gained the knowledge of Luke's paternity and was not affected by it (see how sad my addiction is? I can't even remember my reaction to "No, I am your father."!)

It was during this time that I began creating my own character in my head. The character's name is Doranesweyn Nuiawrian, but is often shortened to Doran Nu (the long form actually came much later in life, but I invented the short form when I was six). Yes, I know it has a similarity to Kissek Doran, his son, Kell Doran (Tainer) and his son, Doran Tainer, but they were all invented after 1993, when I made up Doran Nu, so I claimed the name first!

Like I said before, my uncle owned the movies, as well as many Essential Guides and the Star Wars Encyclopedia. I read them from cover to cover (well, not exactly true, the Enclyclopedia is LONG [and out of date]). My uncle also owned the games X-Wing and TIE Fighter, which were both played extensively (admittingly, TIE Fighter much more than X-Wing). It was during this reading and playing that I took a liking to characters such as Exar Kun, Ulic Qel-Droma and, most especially, Nomi Sunrider (although I did not know she was half-bald in her first book like I now know). In fact, I liked the tale so much that I attributed my character, Doran Nu, to this time period.

When I got the internet, I discovered that I was actually not that much of a Star Wars fan... I knew a lot. More than any 13 year old should, but that was about it. At this point, I had already read Heir to the Empire, the only EU book I had come across (and unknowingly to me, the first one written, Splinter of the Mind's Eye excluded).
