Me, quite obviously
Me, quite obviously
Greetings, fellow Wookieepedians! My name is Christian Kastaun, and I am a 23-years-old rechtspfleger student from Germany.

I recently discovered Wookieepedia while reading several articles concerning Star Wars on Wikipedia out of sheer boredom. Needless to say that I am deeply impressed by the achievement you have made here. Before Wookieepedia, I used to consult the StarWars.com databaseor the old Star Wars: Behind the Magic CD-ROM for background information; from now on, all requests go directly to Wookieepedia.

Needless to say that I want to be part of this; read, discuss, expand... Given the fact that I am not a native english speaker, I may need to be corrected on the grammatic/semantic side sometimes.

In the following I like to provide some trivial information about myself and my relation to Star Wars, in case anyone is interested.

  • Date of Birth: Dec 2nd, 1982
  • Place of Birth: Kassel, Hessia, Germany
  • Home: Hannover, Lower-Saxony, Germany
  • Current Location: Hamburg, Germany (until March '06)
  • Eye color: blue-grey
  • Hair color: brown

[edit] Occupation

During the last two years of school I had a sidejob as barkeeper and waiter at a dancing school. After finishing school with higher education entrance qualification in 2002 I worked as a coffin bearer at a local mortician's and a courier for a pharmacy to bridge the time until my ten-months alternative service at a school for handicapped children. Directly after that I began the rechtspfleger study, which is a specialised law course of studies leading to the office of the same name in the higher staff of judicial public service. I plan to make my diploma until September 30th.

[edit] Star Wars and me

The first bit of Star Wars that caught my eye was a hardcover issue of A New Hope in my parents' book shelf. It was the cover that caught my attention, displaying a stormtrooper in corridor aboard the Death Star. I read the book at the age of ten and first watched the movies shortly after (bad VHS records from TV with several commercial breaks). From that day I got addicted; I read various novels and some of the comics since then, too many to list them all and far to less to have read enough...

I was extremely excited about the release of the Special Edition, as all the people who didn't have the chance to see Star Wars on the big screen before. Spirits rose even higher when the prequel trilogy was finally announced, even though I was first disappointed about Episodes I and II. Revenge of the Sith finally made it all up to me, completed the circle and let me see the first two prequel episodes in a completely new light. Nowadays I am equally fond of them all, with perhaps a slight preference to one or another movie depending on the mood.

I did also play the majority of the PC games on Star Wars as well as the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game Star Wars Galaxies

[edit] My Star Wars favourites

Apologies, if you did expect short, clear answers here...

  • Movie: does absolutely depend on my mood, even tho Episodes III, IV and VI do usually have a slight advantage towards the rest
  • Characters:
    • male (from the movies): definately Supreme Chancellor Palpatine / Darth Sidious, thanks to Ian McDiarmid
    • female (from the movies): Aayla Secura; no idea why, actually, i just like her...
    • male (from EU): Revan, Grand Admiral Thrawn and Talon Karrde
    • female (from EU): Mara Jade, sadly the lady lost a bit of her fire when she got over that "Kill Luke Skywalker"-Business... liked Bastila Shan a lot as well
    • droid (from the movies): C-3PO; for my sometimes uptight behavior that was a nickname of mine for some time...
    • droid (from EU): HK-47, for sharp sarcasm and unbelievable amusing quotes (and the more or less successful, but most likely coincidently appropriate attempt on explaining the term love)
  • Novels: Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, Hand of Thrawn Duology, Survivor's Quest, and I am absolutely sure that Outbound Flight will be great as well; the novelisation of Revenge of the Sith was also a true masterpiece
  • Piece of Music: A New Hope and End Credits did let me almost burst into tears, Revenge of the Sith was also magnificient, even though the Version featured in the Film was more epic than the CD version - in my humble opinion, that is; Across the Stars and Duel of the Fates also deserve to be given credit here, and the removal of Lapti Nek from Jedi in the Special Edition was truly a shame.
  • Video Games: Knight of the Old Republic Series

[edit] Outside the Star War universe

Strangely enough, I do indeed have interests that are not directly connected to Star Wars. Most of them the usual stuff, though, some of them listed below.

[edit] Going out

  • I like small comfy Goth Clubs (I would refer to myself as a "Goth", but I do like some of the music and the evening wear. Could call myself some sort of "Leisure Goth" I guess).
  • My fondness of small and dim places is also fit by a vertain sort of Irish Pubs. Even better if they got live music and Scrumpy Jack Cider.
  • I do really often go to the cinema, rather watching one movie too much than one too less.
  • Whenever the mood hits me, I can be found at Hollywood Karaoke, a karaoke bar in Hannover. Doesn't mean that I am really good at that.

[edit] Music

  • Until I was about 15 I used to play piano. Sadly, I am absolutely out of training.
  • I tried a few other inrtuments, but never found the time and focus to really learn them. Among them were guitar, lyer and hurdy gurdy
  • I had a handful of about 15 to 20 singing lessons.
  • I like almost every kind of music. At the moment I favor some movie soundtracks including Star Wars of course, electro music in the style of Chiasm or Switchblade Symphony, as well as some Classic Rock and Broadway Stuff. Two of my favourite bands are X-Japan and Tito and Tarantula. There's even more, but too much to list here definately.
  • I don't like most kinds of rap and hiphop music.

[edit] Reading

  • I absolutely love Terry Prattchett's Discworld novels, especially those about the City Watch of Ankh Morpork and Death and his Granddaughter Susan
  • Anne Rice's very detailed writing style is very enjoyable, especially her Vampire Chronicles
  • Some of the classics are an absolute must-read, such as Verne's 20.000 leagues under the sea, Goethe's Faust, Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Caroll's Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking glass and Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray
  • Steven King's The Shining is THE perfect horror novel, strongly recommendable

[edit] Roleplaying

  • I play in a mixed Vampire: The Masquerade and Mage: The Ascension chronicle as a japanese Mage of the Akashic Brotherhood and a british/american Vampire of Clan Ventrue. This chronicle is set in New Orleans
  • I play and run several chronicles of the fantasy-game Realms of Arkania. Among my characters are a priest of the god of thieves and a half-elvish magician
  • I run a chronicle of a self-made Star Wars RPG we called Legends of the Old Republic. We use the old World of Darkness point system losely attached to the Star Wars background.
  • I play the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. I can be found on the servers europe-farstar (as human bounty hunter and mayor of Eden City and Palm Beach Edeas Varn or iridonian spy A'dur Keeth) or europe-chimaera (as human commando Lornh Kreega or rodian trader Saede; when playing I spend far more time on farstar

[edit] Misc./Trivial

  • I do have a driver's license class B and simply love to drive, but do not have a car of my own, since I could neither afford it as a student, nor is Hamburg a good place for going by car due to heavy traffic
  • I smoke pipe, waterpipe and cigars on occasion, but only when I'm out, and I never even tried a cigarette
  • I love to cook - my specialities are some simple dishes such as Chili con Carne, Pizza, Cheese Soup or Pizza, but I also like to try somethin new every now and then

[edit] Wookieepedia and me

I joined Wookieepedia on January 9th when I noticed that the article about Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith stated, that the book confirmed Shaak Ti's Fate as shown in the deleted scenes on the DVD. I remembered different and created my first entry on the talk page.
