Enochf/Thing

- "Where are you taking this… thing?"
- ―Shann Childsen on Chewbacca
A thing was an entity, idea, quality, or anything perceived, known, or thought to have its own existence. Put simply, a "thing" was defined as "that which exists." The Galaxy was filled with uncounted numbers of things, including both physical things, immense and tiny, and imperceptible qualities or states.

Inanimate physical things
Edit
- "Hey! Point that thing someplace else."
- ―Han Solo
The simplest of things were inanimate physical objects, ranging from subatomic particles to atoms to molecules, up through larger objects, such as rocks, asteroids, planets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies. All physical objects were made up of atoms, held together by nuclear and electrical forces and combining to make up complex forms. Atoms were divided into elements, differentiated by their atomic numbers, with hydrogen being the simplest, existing naturally as a light gas. Common elements in the Galaxy, in addition to hydrogen, included carbon, oxygen, helium, iron, silicon, nitrogen, and sodium. (See Category:Elements.) Some elements were valuable because of their rarity, such as gold, platinum, and aurodium.

Physical substances made from these atoms and mixtures could be further divided into their physical states, i.e., gases, liquids, solids, or plasmas. Hydrogen and helium existed as gases even at the very low temperatures of vacuum. Oxygen and nitrogen could freeze into liquids at low temperatures, but on terrestrial planets were commonly found in their gaseous state. Gases, liquids, and plasmas flowed with little friction, while solids were characteristically fixed in shape and volume. Solids included rough mixtures, such as sand and powder, while also including complex substances, such as crystalline structures and volcanic rocks.

All physical things were affected by the laws of nature, including gravity. Physical objects exerted a pull on all other physical objects. The greater the size of the thing, the greater the gravitational pull. Large things, such as stars and planets, influenced their surroundings with their gravity. Stars often held entire solar systems in their orbit. Planets held all sorts of things on their surface, including liquid oceans, continental plates, glaciers, rocks, and living things and their constructions. Planets could also, like suns, have other things in orbit around them, such as natural satellites, or moons, or rings made up of dust or ice crystals.
Living things
Edit
- "Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things."
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi
Certain classes of physical objects were considered organic, typically made up of carbon and water molecules. Living things demonstrated certain qualities, such as growth through metabolism, reproduction, and adaptation to the environment. These included plants and animals.
