From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

In 1984 a baby girl who would later become the leader of the free world was born. I am not that girl. Heck I'm not even a girl - although I have wondered...

Erm, ok, so here's the low down on me: Star Wars fan. Of course I'm a Star Wars fan, I'm writing a bio on myself on Star Wars Wiki! Specifically I'm forever in love with the original trilogy and I have a love/hate relationship with the prequel (when did that become a word?) trilogy (more on this below). I'm sure that you'd like to know more about the person, the myth, the legend, Falmarin...

[edit] Education

I've been going to Front Range Community College for a while now and will be transfering to the University of Colorado at Boulder in the fall of 2005. I'll be a junior in film studies.

[edit] Interests

[edit] Literature, movies, and music

I'm a lover of literature - among some of my favorite artists I would count James Joyce, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Gustave Flaubert, Mark Twain, and J.R.R. Tolkien. I'm also obviously enamored with film - among my favorite film directors and/or writers I would count Stanley Kubrick, David O. Russell, Wes Anderson, Stephen Spielberg, and Charlie Kauffman. My favorite music groups/artists would include The Beatles (and successive solo artists), The Who, The Doors, The Velvet Underground, Nico, Elliott Smith, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, and Joan Baez.

[edit] Sports / Activities

I generally ride my bicycle out of principle and for the fun. I don't own a car and hope that my little contribution to the environment has some favorable outcome. Unfortunately, in the summer months I find myself locked in doors much of the time due to my hay fever (especially in this area of the country - Fort Collins, CO). Fortunately for the Star Wars Wiki, I can use this time to contribute to the knowledge base here.

[edit] Comments on the Star Wars movies

[edit] Favorite Star Wars Movies (best to worst)

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. Return of the Jedi *
  4. Revenge of the Sith *
  5. Attack of the Clones
  6. The Phantom Menace
Note: the (*) symbol denotes a tie.

[edit] Favorite EU material

I'm a huge fan of Michael A. Stackpole, specifically his X-Wing series of books, naturally I'm also a huge fan of the X-wing computer game series. I also have a certain fondness for the Dark Forces series and to a lesser degree Republic Commando.

[edit] What I didn't enjoy about the prequel trilogy

I don't hate Jar-Jar Binks, let's get that out in the open, I personally think that various slap stick characters can work - as long as the character is multi-faceted, which Jar-Jar unfortunately was not.

So if not Jar-Jar, then what? Essentially I believe that there has been a degredation of dialogue and acting in the prequel trilogy. Ok, you might want to stop me right there and state "well the OT wasn't that great in the acting department as well!" Are you so sure though? In order to create a world which is believable and palletable one must create a world in which the people emote in a way which makes sense. Take Mark Hamill in TESB with Yoda - pure genius on Mark's part, he essentially made the audience believe that he was talking to this inanimate puppet. Take Harrison Ford in most any scene - an actor with great charisma and strength on screen. Take Carrie Fisher who broke ranks and portrayed a Princess who was head strong and brave. Take even Billy Dee Williams in his role of Lando Calrissian - he was the perfect choice for the scoundrel who gambled his way to aquiring Cloud City.

Now, let's look at the prequel trilogy. Nothing against Natalie Portman, who gave compelling performances in titles like Garden State and Closer, but it felt as if she phoned in the performances in the prequel trilogy - that or Lucas was giving some bad directing. Nothing against Hayden Christensen either, who gave a compelling performance in Shattered Glass, but gave a substandard performance in the prequels with his psuedo shakesperean/british accent and his dull delivery of his lines. Nothing against Samuel L. Jackson whom I loved in movies like Pulp Fiction, Unbreakable, and even The Incredibles, but he too gave a less than steller performance which broke the immersion of the scenes he was in ("this party's over") - can Lucas (or Jackson if he improv'd) get anymore cliche? There are a few areas which excel though, considering Ewan McGregor's stellar "coming of age" throughout the three movies, also Liam Neeson gave me the reason to watch Episode 1 more than twice.

[edit] What I enjoyed about the prequel trilogy

Nothing much to say, this list is pretty self explanitory;

  1. The special effects.
  2. The Clone Troopers.
  3. Much of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
  4. The cool ships (I wish they showed the Z-95 Headhunter though).
  5. WOOKIEES!!!!! WONDERFUL WOOKIEES!
  6. IT'S FREAKING STAR WARS!!!!!
