Signature Tutorial Edit

Created after noticing that Vladius Magnum's tutorial was taken down due to inactivity.

Introduction Edit

A signature is a custom mark that identifies you, to place you signature on a page edit the page and type four tildes (~~~~). A typical signature consists of a link to your user page, a link to your talk page, and a small image, see Wookieepedia:Signature policy for full guidelines.

The Code Edit

To create a proper signature a complex wiki code is required, a typical sig code is shown below:

To properly understand this code, a dissection with purposes of different areas is shown below.

-- [[User:Fett 1138|<span style="color:black">'''Your Name Here''']]</span>

This area is where the link to your user page is, type your user name after [[User: to form the link. You'll notice an area after the "|" like <span style="color:black">, this is where you put what color you want your link to be, simply type a color name such as red, blue, purple, green or use html colors if desired. After that you see '''Your Name Here''' here you simply type what name you want yourself and others to see in your sig (note that current policy states that a sig must contain your user name).

This is the simplest part, the image simply type the name of an image you like in the brackets followed by preferred size (typically from 10-20 pixels) seperated by "|".

This is where you place a link to your talk page, simply follow the same rules as linking to a user page, place the talk page name after [[User talk:, place desired color in <span style="color:Black">, and place link name such as "Holonet Transceiver" or simply "Talk".

All of the coding above put together should come out as:

Copy the full code and add the proper linkage and colors to create you custom sig!

Activating Your Sig Edit

Now that you've created your custom signature you probably want to use it.

To activate your new sig follow these directions:

• Go to your preferences
• Find where it says "Signature:"
• Paste your code into the text box
• Check the box that says "Custom signature"

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You should now have a custom signature!

If desired feel free to test your sig on the "Siggy Sandbox" below, but note that it will be removed after a period of time to prevent this page from becoming too long.
