Well, here's me...

Interests
Edit
I have a life. Besides that, I indulge in pen&paper roleplaying and lots of Fantasy and SciFi stuff. And I love the X-Wing game series.
I am also a Tolkienist, and mostly interested in the inner workings of fictional worlds and their credibility from Fantasy or SciFi universes.
I did Reenactment and medieval swordfighting until a few years ago.
What I know from Star Wars
Edit
- The movies
- The Thrawn Trilogy books
- Star Wars Computer Games (PC):
- Rebel Assault
- Dark Forces
- Jedi Knight & Mysteries of the Sith
- Shadows of the Empire
- X-Wing (and all expansions)
- TIE Fighter (and all expansions)
- X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter & Balance of Power
- X-Wing Alliance
What I think about the Star Wars stuff

The movies
Edit
The original Episode V is what hooks me to Star Wars to this day. I did not like the revamp very much because the added windows all but destroyed the confined, trapped and hellfire red-orange feeling conveyed by the original Cloud City set.
Episode VI was the first Star Wars premiere I ever saw (but I knew the previous Episodes by then). I feel it is the second best of the movies. The extended scenes in Jabba's palace were something between boring and annoying, though.
Episode IV is pretty trashy, but in a very nice and enjoyable way. It is a good thing that George Lucas did not have the money to overload it with the background trash that he later put into the extended version.
The Prequel Trilogy was a big disappointment for me. Although the storyline at large is not too bad, too many details were silly, annoying or felt "wrong". With a few changes, cuts and extra scenes the movies might even have been good. And I am not only talking about JarJar here. Overall I felt Star Wars had been sold out for three two-hour advertisment trailers for the merchandising industry. Somehow it was not about the movies, and they suffered from it.
What I especially hate about the prequels
Edit
(in order of hate-rating)
- Yoda character totally ruined
- Midi-chlorians
- Anakin conceived by The Force
- Overly stupid Battle Droids
- Gungans
- Jedi order portrayal (esp. being not allowed to marry)
- General Grievous defeated so easily
- Anakin's superfast fall from grace (from good Jedi to child butcherer within a few hours, and not remorseful for a second)
- Palpatine aging 20 years in one force duel, then not aging for the next 20 years
- Known starship and fighter types from the era like Dreadnoughts not included
Also, there is Anakin's climactic fight against Obi-wan. The scenery, music and choreography are superb. And yet, something is wrong. I just cannot put my finger on it...
What I do like about the prequels
Edit
- Qui-Gon Jinn
- Soundtracks
- Lightsaber duel choreography
Books
Edit
Besides the novelisation of RotJ I really only know the Thrawn trilogy, which I liked very much. It felt more like Star Wars than the prequel movies.
Games
Edit
I have completed all games on the list above, most of them on highest difficulty setting. I love the Star Wars ego shooters (good SW feel) and the X-Wing series (always liked simulators, this one would be good even if it was not about SW).
What I am doing at Wookieepedia
Edit
I started raising a question about whether or not the destruction of SSD Vengeance can be considered canonical. Before long I found myself reworking most articles pretaining to XvT/Balance of Power and registered myself with a username.
I have since re-played XvT and Balance of Power specifically with the intention of grabbing every piece of information out of the missions, briefings, cutscenes and game databanks. A lot of articles to go yet...
As it stands, Balance of Power and Super Star Destroyers in general are my main fields of interest and will keep me busy for some time to come. If you are reading this then you probably know how addictive Wookieepedia can be.
