I'm a Finnish guy who's desperately willing to learn everything about the Star Wars universe (yeah, I'll do it right next weekend). I'm a big fan of Star Wars but I also like to study it as a more serious subject and see things from different points of view. I read as many of the novels as I only can get in my hands. It's pretty hard to find some of them in Finland. Luckily I like to read them in English so I don't have to wait for translations. Actually I hate the translations.
I doubt I will ever learn very much of anything important that wouldn't already exist in Wookieepedia but I like to make little contributions when I can.

[edit] I hate the Finnish translations
Why do I hate reading Star Wars in my native language?
First, many translators are incompetent. A person who translates Star Wars should be familiar with Star Wars and previous translations. This is the minimum requirement. When I saw that the word "Galaxy" had been translated as "Linnunrata" which doesn't mean any possible Galaxy but Milky Way, I wondered whether the translator had bothered to read the opening phrase "A long time a ago, in a galaxy FAR FAR AWAY". Also, I've seen Obi-Wan subtitled as Obi-1. I've even seen a case where the translator had made a feeble attempt to translate NAMES such as Jabba the Hutt or Millennium Falcon, just to make sound more Finnish. Idiotic. I don't blame the translators actually, they may good in general but not any possible translator should be given a task of translating Star Wars.
Second, it's totally uncontrolled. The competent translators don't cooperate with each other or establish their translations. I've seen a lot of examples where the same words or short phrases have been translated differently. How on earth am I supposed to know what they mean with their translations when they change all the time?
Third, Finnish simply doesn't have it. It's clumsy in Star Wars literature and it lacks a whole bunch of necessary words. For example, the words "destroyer", "fighter" and "interceptor" are all translated as "hävittäjä" because separate words for each of them simply don't exist. So when we talk about Star Destroyers and Starfighters (biiig difference), they are translated as the same word (Finnish making both of them compounds) which can pretty easily get you confused.
[edit] Some absolutely necessary favorite stuff
- Favorite Species: Togruta, I just somehow like their design, lekku, horns, skin color, all of it
- Favorite Jedi: Shaak Ti, She's a Togruta, she's a female and she's just so cool
- Favorite lightsaber color: Blue, Shaak Ti's saber is blue
- Favorite lightsaber style: Form II: Makashi, I like its elegance
- Favorite Sith: Darth Sidious, He's so damn inSidious
- Favorite Imperial warship: Executor-class Star Dreadnaught, it's... big
- Favorite rebel warship: Mon Calamari Star Cruisers, I like their round and smooth hull that creates a contrast for Imperial wedge-shaped Star Destroyers (they are also cool, SSD being the coolest)
- Favorite Old Republic warship: Venator-class Star Destroyer, it's a Star Destroyer
- Favorite Imperial fighter: TIE/D Defender: It's fast, shielded and well-armed and I like its design
- Favorite Rebel Alliance fighter: RZ-1 A-wing interceptor: It's the fastest rebel fighter, I think.
[edit] Star Wars filming
A group of my friends and I have been planning to film a Star Wars episode of our own. It won't be related to any of the actual Star Wars characters or story but the actual planets, ships, droids, species and other stuff will be used in the film. I'll do the editing, the modelling and the special effects. I have already programmed a couple of tools to do that. Right now we are only looking for a store to buy that damn bluescreen which is the only thing we still lack. Well, we probably lack quite a lot of things, skill being the first one, but some things aren't absolutely necessary, the bluscreen is. Don't wait this blockbuster in excitement, you're probably never going to see (I wonder if anyone is).
