- "If it isn't Skywalker's filthy, obnoxious little pet."
- ―Dark Acolyte Asajj Ventress, describing Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka Tano was a female Togruta Jedi during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. Around the year 35 BBY, Tano was born on the planet Shili, and at the age of three, Tano's sensitivity to the Force was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon, who had sensed the Togruta during a mission on Shili. Koon brought the Tano back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant so she could begin her training as a Jedi. In 21 BBY, some months after the Clone Wars broke out throughout the galaxy, Tano was sent to the planet Christophsis to become Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker's Padawan. Tano fought on on the planet with her master, and helped recover Jabba Desilijic Tiure's son, Rotta. As the war progressed, Tano and Skywalker participated in many battles against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
After stopping the reemergence of the Blue Shadow Virus on Naboo with Skywalker and Clone Captain CC-7567, Tano led a squadron for the first time during the Battle of Ryloth. The continuous conflicts gave Tano another chance to lead another group of clone troopers on her own on Felucia; however, during the battle, Tano disobeyed direct orders, which cost her to be assigned as a Jedi Archives guard. After her punishment, Tano, with Skywalker, engaged the Duros bounty hunter Cad Bane over the planet of Devaron to recover a stolen Jedi holocron and a memory crystal, which had a list of Force-sensitive younglings in the galaxy.
Tano had a role during the Second Battle of Geonosis, recovered her stolen lightsaber with Jedi Master Tera Sinube, tracked Boba Fett and his accomplices on Florrum with Plo Koon, protected Republic Senator Padmé Amidala from assassination attempts on the planet Alderaan, and was later tasked with finding clues about Pantoran Baron N. Papanoida's missing children with Senator Riyo Chuchi. Sometime during the later parts of the war, Tano joined Amidala on her trip to Raxus, discovered mysteries on the planet Mortis with Skywalker and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and joined her master and Kenobi's mission to rescue Jedi Master Even Piell in a Confederate prison. Tano, with Skywalker and Jedi Master Kit Fisto, was present on the planet Dac and participated in a battle on the water world.
Biography
Early life
- "It was Master Plo Koon who found me and brought me to the Temple; where I belonged…"
- ―Tano to Anakin Skywalker
Ahsoka Tano[7] was born around 35 BBY[2] on the Togruta homeworld of Shili.[1] At the age of three,[8] the Togruta youngling was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon, who found Tano during a mission on Shili.[1] Tano considered Koon to be among her oldest and dearest friends and felt a large amount of gratitude to him for discovering her Force sensitivity, which ensured that she would be given a home at the Jedi Temple.[9]
Joining the war effort
Battle of Christophsis
- "What's that youngling doing here? Where's the ship? Where's Hunter!"
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi, upon seeing Ahsoka Tano for the first time
Around 22 BBY, Galactic Republic forces engaged the Separatist Army on the Outer Rim planet Christophsis. En route to Christophsis, the[5][10] fourteen-year-old[2] Tano was dispatched by Grand Master Yoda to deliver an important message to High General Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Anakin Skywalker. As the remaining Republic forces assembled around the descending shuttle, Tano's Nu-class attack shuttle landed[5][10] in City Plaza,[11] a place within the city of Crystal City. Departing from her shuttle, Tano met with Kenobi and Skywalker and told them there was an emergency in the Jedi Temple and Yoda wanted them to return.[5][10]
Yet, after Skywalker and Kenobi told Tano that they are unable to make contact with the Temple, Tano suggested the use of her shuttle's transmission to make contact with Yoda. Soon, Tano and the two Jedi circled around a communication unit that was placed near Tano's shuttle, and tried to make contact with Yoda. Their connection, however, was redirected to a clone naval officer, onboard an orbiting Venator-class Star Destroyer. The clone rerouted the connection to Yoda on Coruscant, where the Jedi Master was pleased to see that Tano made it to Christophsis to aid Kenobi and Skywalker. As Kenobi and Skywalker conferred with Yoda, their signal was broken up, due to the invading Confederate Navy forces above the planet. Despite the setback, Kenobi introduced himself to Tano, and assumed that Tano was his newly assigned Padawan he had been expecting. When the Togruta youngling told the Jedi Master that Yoda had actually assigned her to Skywalker, the Jedi Knight was not pleased with Yoda's decision of giving Tano to him as his Padawan, as he did not ask for one. Putting the problem aside, Skywalker, accompanied by Tano, soon departed to check on clone trooper Captain CC-7567, nicknamed "Rex," who was checking an area for activity on an abandoned skyscraper.[5][10]
Along the way, Tano engaged in dangerous situations, such as standing on a railing of the skyscraper, which caused Skywalker to feel doubtful of his new apprentice. Upon meeting to Rex and his squad for the first time, Tano stood by her master's side as he and Rex conferred. When Rex noticed the Togruta youngling, Tano told the Clone Captain that she was Skywalker's Padawan learner, which surprised Rex, due to the fact that Skywalker previously told the him that he did not have a Padawan. Skywalker tried to clear up the confusion by telling Rex that she was recently assigned to him. Even though Skywalker was annoyed by her presence, when Tano began to nickname her new master "Skyguy," Skywalker was displeased with the lack of respect she displayed and ordered her to go with Rex to learn respect and an acquaint of the position. After the two departed from Skywalker and Rex's men, Tano and Rex descended down the building to a ground-level walking path. As the two began to talk, Tano suggested to move the Republic's artillery canons; however, Rex stated that it was Skywalker's order to position the cannons. Their conversation quickly changed when the Padawan asked the Clone Captain about her new acquired rank of Jedi Commander and, with it, she outranked him. Rex, however, dismissed her by claiming she was only a "youngling," a term which annoyed Tano. Despite the brief argument, two soon began to have an understanding of each other.[5][10]
Their discussion broke off after Tano noticed a deflector shield approaching from the distance. Both Tano and Rex returned to the Republic's temporary base and rejoined Kenobi and Skywalker, where they noticed that the Confederate line—under the command of General Whorm Loathsom—was heading toward their heavy cannons. Tano suggested if the shield was a problem, they should destroy it, an idea that interest Skywalker. Kenobi offered a plan to stop Loathsom—he and Rex would stay behind and defend their base, while Tano and Skywalker departed to destroy the Confederate shield generator. Both Tano and Skywalker agreed and departed the Republic base. Along the way to a building that overlooked the approaching Confederate line, Skywalker began to nickname his new apprentice "Snips," due to her snippy personality. After Tano and Skywalker arrived at the abandoned building, Skywalker figured out a way to avoid detection and get passed the shield by hiding themselves within a fallen debris box. His plan worked, as both Tano and Skywalker successfully hid beneath a debris box as the Confederate line moved past them. Yet, after they bumped into a droideka, the droid began to attack the Jedi, though it was destroyed by Tano.[5][10]
The two Jedi made it to the shield generator, though Tano ignored Skywalker when he told her to wait, and accidentally activated a series of hidden[5][10] LR-57 combat droids,[12] who were buried underground around the shield generator. Skywalker ordered Tano to take out the generator, while he took care of the droids, but Tano activated more of the droids when she Force pushed destroyed droid parts on the droid activating senors on the ground. Skywalker was frustrated with her recklessness, and soon was cornered by the droids. The young Togruta told Skywalker to not move as she used the Force to bring down a broken wall with a hole in the center, which destroyed the droids around her master and saved him. Tano then placed the bombs around the generator and activated them, which eradicated the Separatist shield. Soon after the two Jedi completed their task, the Republic reinforcements arrived above Christophsis. Onboard a LAAT/i gunship, Rex picked up Tano and Skywalker, congratulated them on their success.[5][10]
Skywalker and Tano landed in Crystal City with Rex to join Kenobi and Yoda, who had arrived on Christophsis. Yoda told Skywalker that he heard Tano had been giving him trouble, and if he was not ready to take a Padawan, then Kenobi would train Tano. However, Skywalker explained to Yoda and Kenobi that Tano was "rough around the edges," but with time and training she will mature.[10] Yoda then approvingly assigned Tano and Skywalker their first off-world mission to the planet Teth. It was revealed to Republic intelligence that Rotta, the son of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, had been kidnapped. Tano and Skywalker's task was to rescue the Huttlet and bring him back to Jabba, while Kenobi negotiated a treaty with Jabba, which would allow the Republic to access Hutt controlled space hyperlanes. After the meeting, Tano left her master to help Rex assemble his men.[5][10]
Battle of Teth
- "But the hard bit's over, right? I mean, we just crawled up a cliff under fire and wiped out a battalion of droids or something."
"'Fraid not, littl'un, The hard bit isn't over until we put our boots down on Republic soil again, preferably with one Huttlet on board." - ―Tano and CC-7567
Onboard an Acclamator I-class assault ship, the clone troopers of Torrent Company, a unit within the 501st Legion, gathered near Tano, near a LAAT/i gunship. Tano told the clone troopers of the success of destroying the shield generator with Skywalker, as well as telling them that she "saved his life." Though Skywalker soon broke up the group and Rex ordered his men to prepare for the Teth invasion. Soon, Tano, Skywalker, Rex and his men boarded separate LAAT/i gunships. Inside lieutenant Hawk's gunship, the two Jedi and Rex organized their attack plan, as they descended into Teth's atmosphere. Heavy gunfire from stationed Confederate forces near a monastery on Teth was making the trip difficult for the clone trooper pilots. Hawk turned off the gunship's lights, which alerted Tano. She and the others onboard the gunship were eventually momentarily blinded by the dense light when the gunship's doors opened. While the battle droids stationed on a cliff near the monastery concentrated their fire on the invading Republic forces, Tano joined Skywalker and the clones at the base of the monastery cliff. Unable to attack the droids from their location, the Republic forces soon climbed the side of the monastery mesa, alongside two AT-TEs.[5][10]
The group utilized grappling hooks and other assorted vines[5][10] as they ascended to the top of the half-mile high mesa,[1] though the droids continued to fire on the group. Tano, who was climbing the cliff with a grappling hook, swung toward an AT-TE and utilized her lightsaber to deflect oncoming blaster fire. While Skywalker and Tano deflected most fire with their lightsabers, the two were unable to protect one of their AT-TE walkers, which was destroyed by the intense fire. Tano's AT-TE soon detached from the side of the cliff, which made her loose her balance. After Skywalker commandeered a STAMP from a B1 battle droid, he managed to destroy all the droids on top of the mesa; however, three droidekas activated near him, though where soon destroyed by the timely arrival of Tano's AT-TE. The Republic group organized and approached the monastery's entrance. Upon entering the dark cave, Tano concluded that the monastery once belonged to the B'omarr.[5][10]
The group was greeted by 4A-7, a secret Confederate spy droid that was assigned by the Sith Lord Count Dooku. 4A-7 told the group to not proceed into the monastery, because it was not safe for any intruders. Skywalker dismissed the droid and ordered Rex to stay with his men, while Tano and his astromech droid, R2-D2, find Jabba's son Rotta. Skywalker, Tano, and R2-D2 ascended into the monastery's dungeons, which were guarded by B1 battle droids. After Tano destroyed all of the droids with her lightsaber, Skywalker opened one of the cell rooms, and found a small Huttlet crawling toward him. Tano began to feel sympathetic for Rotta, while both her and Skywalker placed the Huttlet in a backpack that was given to them by Sergeant Coric. The Jedi noticed the Huttlet was sick and required medical attention, which made the situation much more complicated for the two. Shortly after rescuing Rotta, Rex called Skywalker's comlink. Unbeknownst to them, Confederate Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress had attacked the stationed clone troopers near the monastery's entrance, and forced Rex to contact Skywalker to know his whereabouts. Tano and Skywalker were shocked to hear Rex call him "Anakin," instead of his respected title of General. Knowing something was wrong, Skywalker deactivated his comlink and concluded that Ventress was within the monastery looking for them. R2-D2, who scanned the monastery via his scomp link, soon found another landing pad behind the monastery.[5][10]
However, before the group departed, Ventress and two B2 super battle droids confronted them. Ventress and Skywalker exchanged words before Ventress dejected Tano by calling her "Skywalker's pet."[10] Before the Jedi activated their lightsabers, R2 activated a trap door below them, sending them down a long chute into a hidden chamber within the monastery. Skywalker ordered Tano to protect the Hutt and destroy the droids around them, while he engaged Ventress. After dispatching the droids, Tano managed to find a door, but was not aware that it contained a captive jungle rancor within. After Skywalker and Ventress leaped on top of the rancor to continue their duel, the rancor confronted Tano. Eventually, Skywalker and Tano managed to escape the rancor and Ventress, after Skywalker used his lightsaber to incapacitate the beast.[11] R2-D2 managed to flee with the Jedi, whom soon exited the monastery through the south landing pad's doorway. Much to Skywalker's dismay, they could not make contact with Kenobi via comlink, and soon a pair of Vulture droids confronted Tano and Skywalker.[5][10]
After defeating the droids, Skywalker received a status report from Rex, who was fighting invading battle droids. Skywalker prepared to head back to help the clones, but Tano believed that they needed to search for a transport to deliver Rotta back to Tatooine alive. Ventress and two droidekas soon found the group on the landing pad, but were stopped by R2-D2, when he closed the landing pad's blast door via his scomp link. While attempting to retreat, a pair of dwarf spider droids were closing on the Jedi. With the help of her Togruta awareness, Tano found another nearby mesa that had a docked freighter sitting on a landing pad from a distance. Skywalker jumped on top of a can-cell, a species that inhabited Teth, leaving Tano, R2-D2, and Rotta behind. The pair, however, were soon confronted by Ventress, who destroyed the door with her twin lightsabers. The Dark Acolyte swiftly engaged Tano in a lightsaber duel, though Ventress managed to knock the young Togruta to the ground after the forty-second fight. Ventress demanded to know where Skywalker was, although before causing more harm to Tano, Skywalker, who was still mounted on a can-cell, interrupted Ventress and forced the can-cell to knock the Dark Acolyte back. After Skywalker told Tano to jump on the can-cell, the group departed the landing pad and headed toward the old freighter on top of the nearby mesa. 4A-7 and a pair of OOM command battle droids were boarding the ship, prior to being confronted by Tano. Tano confronted 4A-7 and the battle droids. The Padawan dispatched the battle droids with her lightsaber, before beheading the Confederate spy droid. While unable to help Rex and his men, Skywalker and R2-D2 docked the spice freighter—which was revealed to be named the "Twilight,"—with Tano and planned a course for Tatooine.[5][10]
Delivering a Huttlet
- "Being a Padawan is harder than I thought."
- ―Ahsoka, after defeating three MagnaGuards
As Tano and Skywalker departed Teth, Tano became frustrated with the old freighter's performance. The G9 Rigger was soon under attack by clone trooper pilots in V-19 Torrent starfighters, due to them believing it was an enemy ship. The Republic forces, under the command of Republic Admiral Wullf Yularen, engaged the Confederate navy above the planet, while Kenobi and men of the 212th Attack Battalion, a unit with the 7th Sky Corps, helped Rex clean off the droids near the monastery. Despite the fact the Republic believed Skywalker's commandeered freighter was an enemy ship, Vulture droids began to attack the Twilight as well, which made it more difficult for Skywalker to outmaneuver both Republic and Confederate forces. Upon making contact with crew members, who were stationed onboard a nearby Venator-class Star Destroyer, Skywalker ordered them to raise the Star Destroyer's shields so they can dock. Tano feared for the sick Huttlet, whose health was quickly deteriorating. She reminded Skywalker that Rotta needed medical attention or he would die. Soon, a clone naval officer acknowledged Skywalker and began to open the side hangar door of the Venator-class Star Destroyer. Yet, two Vulture droids, that were attacking the Twilight, began a suicide attack and exploded inside the side hangar of the Star Destroyer. Unable to dock, Skywaler insisted they need to take the Twilight to Tatooine.[10][5]
En route to Tatooine, Tano felt Rotta's head and indicated that his fever had worsen. Skywalker told Tano to find medical supplies inside the freighter's med station. Inside the med room, Tano activated a hologram of 2-1B surgical droid, a 2-1B surgical droid, that was stationed inside the freighter's medical room. The droid scanned Rotta and advised the young Togruta to give the Huttlet a medical pill, located in a cabinet within the room. After feeding the Huttlet with the pill, Tano rejoined Skywalker in the cockpit and noticed that his fever faded. As the group entered the Tatoo system, they were attacked by MagnaGuards piloting Porax-38 starfighters. As the droids managed to damage parts of the Twilight, Skywalker ordered Tano to activate their main guns. However, their two turbolasers were locked in their forward position and Tano was unable to turn them manually. Skywalker told R2-D2 to turn the main guns around, and the droid acknowledged. R2 was able to destroy one of the fighters with guns through a scomp link dock, while Skywalker took out the other. Due to the amount of stress the freighter endured during the fight, the ship began to break apart upon entering Tatooine's atmosphere, and crash landed on the eastern section of the Dune Sea.[5][10]
Skywalker and Tano opened the Twilight's aft cargo doors and evacuated the freighter. R2-D2 alerted the two and Tano happily allowed R2 to join them as they travel across the Dune Sea to Jabba's Palace, which was located about five kilometers from their location, in the Western Dune Sea. The three walked nearly a half a mile when they crossed near remnants of a Bantha skeleton. As daylight began to fall, Tano told her master that she felt something through the Force, which was also felt by Skywalker. Skywalker told her it was Count Dooku and they must get Rotta to Jabba before he arrived. However, Dooku was already near the two, which made Skywalker force Tano to take Rotta to Jabba. Skywalker took her pack, and filled it with rocks to make the Sith Lord believe the Huttlet was in the pack. Tano soon departed with Rotta and R2 and headed for Jabba's palace. Near the palace's enterance, the Padawan was confronted by three of Dooku's MangaGuards. Engaging them in a brawl, Tano continued to protect the Huttlet, as she dueled the droids with her lightsaber, although felt the hardness of defeating them, due to their Lightsaber-resistant electrostaffs. After R2 was knocked down by one of the droids, Tano was quickly defeated, and slid down a sand hill. After returning back up the hill, she engaged the droids once again. As soon as the Padawan dispatched all the MagnaGuards, the Togruta fell to her knees, in exhaustion, and questioned the challenge of being a Padawan.[5][10]
Skywalker stole Dooku's speeder after their brawl and departed for Jabba's palace. Tano saw her master drive up to the front door of the palace, but he was unable to hear Tano shout for him. The young Togruta sneaked inside the palace, and noticed her master was being threatened by Jabba. Interrupting Jabba and Skywalker's argument, Tano gave Rotta to Jabba, who was soon filled with happiness for the safe return of his son. Even though they returned Rotta to him in good health, Jabba wanted the Jedi dead. The Hutt crimelord was again interrupted, this time by a hologram transmission from Senator Padmé Amidala, the incumbent senator from Naboo. Amidala told Jabba of his nephew's plan to overthrow Jabba as the leader of his criminal empire by kidnapping his son with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Jabba then dismissed his plans of killing the Jedi and allowed the Republic to use his hyperlanes. Shortly after, Kenobi, Yoda and Rex soon landed near Jabba's palace in LAAT/i gunships.[10] Both Tano and Skywalker were happy to see Rex and asked him if they can learn of his mission in Teth, which the clone trooper captain agreed to.[5]
Bothawui and Skytop Station
- "Master, they just delivered your replacement astromech droid! This is R3-S6. I've heard that the new R3's are far faster in thinking skills and more powerful than the old R2 units."
- ―Tano, introduces R3-S6 to Anakin Skywalker
At some point after rescuing Rotta, Skywalker, Tano and Rex returned to the Galactic Republic capital of Coruscant. While resting from the war, Tano began to restudy educational material, as well as practicing different lightsaber forms, such as Form IV. After a terrorist attack that plagued Coruscant's Galactic City for a day, Obi-Wan Kenobi remained injured from the explosion that resulted from the attack. When Tano and Skywalker visited him inside one of the Jedi Temple's medical rooms, Kenobi revealed to Skywalker that Dexter Jettster summoned information about the Confederate General Grievous' plan of invading Bothawui. Skywalker, for the first time, accepted a leadership role, which allowed him to lead a Republic force group to counter Grievous. After Skywalker's three new Star Destroyers—the Resolute, Pioneer, and Dauntless—had arrived from the Allanteen VI shipyards, Skywalker personally took the Resolute as his flagship, and Admiral Yularen was assigned as the commander of the Star Destroyer. Tano and her master were pleased that Rex and the 501st Legion would be joining them, as the Clone Captain and his men were preparing for the mission inside the Resolute. Soon, Skywalker's fleet left the Coruscant system and headed for the Both system to engage Grievous.[13]
En route to Bothawui, Skywalker's forces were quickly attacked by Grievous' force—consisting of four Munificent-class frigates. Before jumping to hyperspace, Skywalker's Star Destroyers fired multiple times on Grievous' forces. However, Grievous delayed his pursuit and retreated and picked up two more frigates when the Confederate general overwhelmed Republic forces on the planet of Falleen. Skywalker's forces arrived at Bothawui before Grievous, and soon Skywalker, Tano, and Rex learned of the Falleen defeat from Kenobi via hologram. Though Skywalker's forces were soon to be outnumbered by Grievous' fleet, the Jedi Knight wanted to protect Bothawui. He and Tano deployed Rex and a squad of AT-TE walkers on[13] Bothawui Prime's[14] orbiting asteroid belt, which surrounded the planet. The six Confederate frigates arrived in the system and Grievous proceeded through the asteroid belt. As soon as it emerged from the asteroids, the Confederate fleet attacked Skywalker's three Star Destroyers.[13]
Tano—who noticed that Skywalker's forces were outnumbered—ordered Rex to fire on the invading Confederate frigates.[15] Rex and his men, inside the AT-TEs, targeted the unprotected, armor-less[16] rears of the frigates, which crippled them. The Resolute, Pioneer, and Dauntless fired at the Confederate frigates and, as his ships were eliminated one by one, Grievous fled in his personal starfighter. With R2-D2 serving as his astromech droid, Skywalker gave pursuit in his Delta-7B starfighter, but his craft was hit by flying debris. While Grievous escaped the system, Skywalker's starfighter exploded and veered toward the asteroid belt. Rex rescued the unconscious Skywalker, and let the Jedi Knight recover inside the Resolute's medical bay. After regaining consciousness, Tano informed her master that R2-D2 had been lost in action. Fearing that his droid was lost, he contacted Kenobi[15]—who was with Senator Bail Prestor Organa[13]—and told him of his success at Bothawui, but lost his droid, who contained vital Republic strategic plans intact. Alerted, Kenobi told Skywalker and Tano that they must find him before the astromech fell into enemy hands.[15]
Preparing the Twilight, as well as staging a rescue mission, Skywalker was determined to find his lost droid. After receiving an replacement astromech, Tano introduced R3-S6, a new droid from the R3-series astromech droid, to Skywalker and told him the advantages the R3 units have over the older R2 units. After departing the Resolute inside the Twilight, the two Jedi and R3 came across a Trandoshan freighter collecting debris from the battle field. Docking with the freighter, Skywalker, Tano, and R3 were greeted by the frigate's owner, Gha Nachkt, who allowed them to search through his cargo for R2. As R3-S6—also known as "Goldie" by Tano—accompanied the Jedi, they came across deactivated IG-86 sentinel droids, who were soon intentionally activated by R3. One of the droids grabbed Tano's arm, and the latter alerted her master, who soon attacked the droid with his lightsaber. After the droid released the Togruta Padawan, Tano activated her lightsaber and began to deflect the blaster fire from the IG-86 droids. Tano ordered R3 to shut down the droids, although R3 intentionally acted as if he had issues with doing so. After Tano defeated the last of the droids, R3 opened a blast door—which led to the freighter's bridge—only to reveal Nachkt, who was listening in on the fight.[15] After the unsuccessful attempt, Skywalker, Tano, and R3 returned to the Twilight and docked with the Resolute soon after. Declaring that R2-D2 had been lost in action, Skywalker returned his three new Star Destroyers back to the shipyards.[13]

At the shipyards,[13] Kenobi contacted Skywalker, Tano, and Rex, and reported that Republic Intelligence[17] had confirmed the existence of a Confederate listening post that had been intercepting Republic transmissions. After Kenobi gave Skywalker and Tano their new mission of finding the Confederate listening post, Skywalker offered to undergo another mission to sweep through suspected Confederate space. Tano suggested that Skywalker should use R3 for the mission, although the Jedi Knight had mixed feelings for the astromech, because of his failures onboard the Trandoshan freighter. Tano remained with Rex on the Resolute, while Skywalker docked his starfighter to check the suspected area for Confederate activity. Unbeknownst to Skywalker, General Grievous summoned a new fleet of Munificent-class frigates, which were awaiting the activation of Skywalker fighter's signal beacon. Meanwhile, Tano noticed that her master's fighter had its beacon on and soon told Rex to gather his troops.[15] The two departed the Resolute onboard the Twilight and jumped to the Jedi Knight's location.[17] Their timely arrival saved Skywalker, and Tano maneuvered the Twilight to allow her master to navigate his starfighter inside the Twilight's aft cargo bay before they jumped into hyperspace, away from Grievous' forces. Inside the cockpit of the Twilight, both Skywalker and R3 returned, and Tano was pleased to see the astromech, although Skywalker was displeased with the droid, because R3 was ignoring Skywalker's orders. Tano, who was concerned about her master, commented that R2 was lost, though Skywalker demanded that they need to keep searching for him.[15]
R2-D2, who was captured by Gha Nachkt,[15] secretly activated a beacon inside the Vulture's Claw, which allowed R2 to send the transmission to the Twilight. Onboard the ship, Tano noticed the faint connection. Noticing that the transmission came from R2, Skywalker demanded that they should follow the signal, which would lead them to his lost droid.[15] Rex was able to track the droid's signal to one of the moons of Ruusan, although Nachkt—who wanted to give R2 to Grievous—docked in Skytop Station, a Confederate listening post that hovered above the skies of Ruusan 2.[18] The Republic group inside the Twilight traveled through the atmosphere of the Ruusan moon and discovered the Separatist listening post. Prior to leaving the Twilight, Tano toyed with Rex and gave the Clone Captain the duty of holding onto R3, which displeased the Clone Captain. Above the station, the group—which consisted of Skywalker, Tano, Rex, trooper Denal, clone troopers, and R3—soon dropped off the aft cargo bay of the Twilight and descended down toward the station. The clones utilized JT-12 jetpacks to safely land on the station's hull, while Skywalker and Tano used the Force to land. Skywalker used his lightsaber to cut a hole ontop of the station's hull to allow the group to secretly enter. Skywalker, who disobeyed Kenobi's order to only destroy the station and not find R2, separated from Tano and the clones and journeyed throughout the station to find his droid.[19]

The mission allowed Tano to lead the troops with R3, and find the main reactor core, which, if destroyed, would destroy Skytop Station. Upon arriving at the reactor room, they noticed that the door was ray shielded. Tano ordered R3 to open the door, though Rex made a remark on the droid's inability to open the door, which angered Tano. While R3 continued to struggle intentionally, battle droids were walking down a hallway, near the reactor room door. Rex was becoming inpatient, and Denal offered to hot-wire to the door, although Tano demanded that they should be patient. After the battle droids began to fire at the Republic group, Tano activated her lightsaber and deflected the blaster bolts, while Rex and the clone troopers covered her from behind. Tano ordered Rex to utilize EMP grenades and the clone captain complied and tossed grenades at the droids, which disabled them. Soon, Grievous appeared, standing in front of the opened reactor room and began to wonder why the Republic sent a "child to destroy his station." Tano misunderstood her adversary and ordered the clone troopers to fire at Grievous, while she engaged him in a brief lightsaber duel. Grievous knocked Tano unconscious and killed all clones, albeit Rex and Denal remained alive, with his lightsaber. Attempting to kill Rex with his lightsaber, Grievous' blade was blocked by Tano, who had regained her conciseness. After another brief lightsaber duel with Grievous, Tano ran away from Grievous with R3. The Togruta Padawan remained hidden inside a storage room, and soon Grievous, who followed her into the room, demanded her to continue their duel. Yet, Tano remained hidden ontop of a storage shelve. Soon, Tano oversaw R3 communicating with Grievous, which revealed the droid's true allegiance.[19]
Rex contacted Tano via comlink and told her that they should abort the mission; however, Tano declined and demanded that he and Denal should complete it, while she handled Grievous. Although, Grievous, who soon spotted the light of Tano's green lightsaber, grabbed her by the throat and tossed her weapon to the ground. As the cyborg general continued to squeeze Tano's neck, he picked up her weapon with his free hand, and dictated that once he killed her, her master would die next. However, an explosion rattled the storage room, allowing Tano to sever Grievous' hand with her lightsaber and escape. The angered Grievous saw the Togruta enter a ventilation shaft, which led to the main hangar. Before leaving, she recovered her fallen lightsaber through the Force and joined Skywalker, Rex, Denal and clone reinforcements that arrived with the Twilight in the hangar. Skywalker commented that Tano was foolish to fight Grievous, although his Padawan thought it was a "good idea," due to her leading the mission at the time. Soon, the Republic group left the station onboard the Twilight. With Skytop Station destroyed, and R2 recovered, Skywalker contacted Kenobi inside the Twilight, though the Jedi Master was not impressed with Skywalker's ways of endangering his Padawan and the mission for an astromech droid.[19]

"Not only would you still be frozen if I weren't here, you'd have to fight these things all by yourself!"
"I ordered you to stay…and you disobeyed my direct order." - ―Tano and Skywalker
Above the planet of Nexus Ortai, a battle between the Republic and Confederate forces erupted. Leading the Republic, Jedi Generals Kenobi and Skywalker led Ghost Squadron, while Admiral Yularen remained onboard a Venator-class Star Destroyer with Tano. As the battle intensified, Tano began to ask her master if she could join the battle, because more battle droids reinforcements arrived. However, the Jedi Knight told his apprentice that she must remain onboard to "learn from Yularen," although Tano felt unwanted. Meanwhile, Yularen noticed that more Confederate forces, led by General Grievous, came out of hyperspace. Outnumbered, Kenobi ordered the Republic forces to retreat back to the Star Destroyer for an immediate jump to hyperspace.[20]
Skywalker, Kenobi, and Tano returned to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for a meeting. Jedi Master Mace Windu dictated that the Republic must slow down the Separatists' ability of manufacturing ships, or else the war would come to an end for the Republic. After Windu suggested an attack on an InterGalactic Banking Clan shipyard, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine told Windu that the Galactic Senate would never approve of the attack. Kenobi suggested that they should target shipyard factories on Gwori—which had a strong droid defense—and the idea was approved by the Jedi and the chancellor. Upon taking the lead, Skywalker ordered his men to carbon freeze themselves inside chamber CT-642, which would allow them to secretly enter Gwori without being detected by the droids.[20]
Telling his Padawan that she should remain with Yularen, the rest of the group froze themselves in carbonite. The blocks would be taken into a ship, where R2-D2 would fly it to Gwori. Disobeying her master, Tano told Yularen that her master would need her. The admiral reluctantly agreed and froze Tano, before R2's ship took off. Above Gwori, the transport was soon under attack by Confederate Vulture droids. In the atmosphere of the planet, R2 dropped the ship's cargo, releasing the blocks of carbonite to free-fall onto the planet's surface. On the surface, R2 released Tano first from her block, and the Togruta noticed that the blocks have been separated upon impact. She released her master from his block, however, the Jedi Knight became angered, due to Tano disobeying him. After recovering the other carbonite slabs, Skywalker ordered Rex to look after Tano while they ventured to a Separatist-controlled communication station to contact Jedi Master Saesee Tiin and Plo Koon.[20]
Leading a group of clone troopers, Tano used her lightsaber to deflect battle droid blaster fire, although Rex pushed her aside and took out the rest of the droids inside the station. The Padawan was pleased to see that the communication interface was active, and soon transferred her connection to Tiin and Koon. Tiin told Tano that they would soon arrive with BTL-B Y-wing starfighters to destroy the shipyards, although the shipyard's Muun overseer, Juhm, broke up there connection. The Muun was shocked to see a Jedi, and soon self destructed the communication base. After evading the resulting explosion that destroyed the base, Tano contacted Skywalker via comlink and warned him that the Separatists' were aware of their presence. As Skywalker and Kenobi found slaves near the shipyard, Tano, Rex, and a group of clone troopers were under attack by B2 super battle droids.[20]

The group took cover inside a cave and remained there until they were attacked by a creature, which lived inside the cave. The creature killed all the clones, however, Tano and Rex escaped death. Outside the cave, Tano and Rex were soon captured by Juhm, who previously took Skywalker and Kenobi captive. Placing the Republic group on metal beams, the Muun electrocuted them one-by-one, as a way of execution. Tano told Skywalker why he was "making her feel useless," and the Jedi Knight revealed that he wanted to be cautious and protective, and her place in the mission wouldn't fit. Soon, the two began to have an understanding of each other. After Juhm left, the Republic group remained coupled to their electric beams. Using the Force, Skywalker and Tano made MagnaGuards, who were near the group, destroy the electricity generator, stopping their torture. R2-D2 soon released the Jedi and clone captain.[20]
The Republic group returned to the slaves and freed them, before Tiin and Koon's bombers arrived. As Juhn awaited the arrival of Confederate Head of State Count Dooku, the Muun became overwhelmed as the Y-Wing bombers destroyed his shipyards. Meanwhile, the Jedi led the slaves into a Separatist frigate, and soon departed the planet. Upon leaving, Juhm contacted the group and alerted them of their final destruction. A radiation shield plagued the ship, however, it was deactivated and the frigate was maneuvered around the space battle that was led by Tiin and Koon. After releasing the slaves, Tano commented the danger of letting the slaves transfer onto another war ship, although Kenobi dismissed her by stating that nothing could make a difference. A pleased Skywalker told Kenobi and Tano that the Jedi Council called them to inform them of their next mission: find a new Separatist weapon.[20]
Podracing on Mon Gazza
- "We're going undercover. I've entered you in the race."
"Me?! I don't know how to drive a pod." - ―Skywalker and Tano
On the planet of Queel, High General Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Anakin Skywalker led a attack on the Separatist controlled world. While Tano decimated battle droids on the swamp world, Rex helped Tano with destroying the DSD1 dwarf spider droids and B1 battle droids guarding anti-aircraft weaponry. Tano used her lightsaber to sever the anti-aircraft guns, while Rex took out the battle droids with his DC-17 hand blasters. The young Togruta used the Force to throw artillery bombs at the battle droids, which caused the surrounding area to explode. Tano and Rex evacuated the area and met up with Kenobi and Skywalker, who were watching Tano's progress. Skywalker was most displeased with her reckless behavior that she displayed, but nonetheless, both Rex and Tano successfully destroyed half of the Confederate forces on the planet. Soon, Commander Cody contacted both Kenobi and Skywalker through a hologram transmission. He alerted them of Mundi and Yoda's distress call from Coruscant. Inside a heavy assault vehicle, the group contacted Mundi and Yoda. Yoda told Skywalker that he will go to Mon Gazza to collect a stolen datadisk, which was stolen by a male named Messo. Kenobi insisted that he would go along with Skywalker, but he told his former master that he would bring Tano along to help him. After Kenobi agreed to stay behind and destroy the remaining Separatist forces on Queel, Skywalker, Tano and Rex left Quell on the Twilight and departed for Mon Gazza.[21]

The Twilight landed in Miner's Town, the capital of Mon Gazza. Skywalker conferred with Tano and Rex about Mon Gazza's reputation of being a former spice mining world. They departed the freighter and Skywalker told Tano to get the Twilight stowed. Rex and her will rendezvous with him in the downtown district of the city. Upon docking the ship, Rex took off his customized phase I armor and disguised himself to fit with the crowd and, like Skywalker, Tano wore a poncho over her Jedi apparel. The two soon left the Twilight with astromech droid R2-D2. Tano contacted Skywalker via comlink and asked if he found Messo and the datadisk. However, when Skywalker noticed Messo walking up a flight of stairs, he chased the senator's former aide up the stairs and onto a balcony overlooking the city. Messo took out a blaster and began to fire on Skywalker, although the Jedi Knight used his lightsaber to deflect the blaster bolts back at him. One of the bolts hit Messo, which caused him to fall over the edge of the balcony to his death.[21]
After the brawl, Tano and Rex met Skywalker, who left the balcony and began watching a podrace. The group noticed a Twi'lek, named Kidd Kareen, won the race, which was brought to Tano's attention. However, she reminded herself of the datadisk and asked Skywalker once more. Skywalker told his apprentice that Messo was dead and didn't have the datadisk with him. He concluded that Messo must have gave it to a Separatist spy, who could be a podracer. After Skywalker told Tano that he had entered her in the next podrace, Tano was shocked about his decision without consulting her first. Skywalker took Tano and Rex to the podracer that he found suitable for his Padawan. The Jedi Knight revealed that Jedi intelligence reported that the enemy was in the same system they are on. Kareen was Skywalker's first suspect, and soon he told Tano that she must get closer to him to find information about the disk. The young Twi'lek soon approached them and bragged about his latest victory to Tano.[21]
After Tano and Kareen exchanged words, the Twi'lek and his team left the area. Tano became imitated by the Twi'lek's arrogance and wanted to hurt him through the Force, although Skywalker dismissed her. He reminded Tano that she must get closer to him and behave, but she mustn't get attached, because her judgment will be clouded. Tano agreed and soon walked over to Kareen, who was near his podracer. The young Togruta told Kareen that she was wrong about him and it would be appreciated if he showed her around the track. Meanwhile, Skywalker told Rex to watch after Kareen's crew while he searched for evidence. Skywalker found a Separatist comlink in Maxus's—who was close friend of Kareen—toolbox. However, Maxus returned, only to find Skywalker snooping around Kareen's pit. Outside, Kareen took Tano on a tour around the city. He brought her to a old bridge where he wanted to race her on foot. Tano accepted and used the Force to speed through the bridge, beating Kareen.[21]

The Twi'lek was impressed by Tano's speed and began to develop feelings for her. The two sat down at the edge of the bridge, while Kareen discussed about the Mon Gazza Maze, the amateur podrace track where Tano would soon race Kareen. The two also discussed about the Clone Wars and how it affected Kareen. The Twi'lek soon dejected the Jedi by claiming that they enforced the war. However, Tano—who remained undercover as a podracer—defended the Jedi, but not enough to reveal her true identity. Afterward, the two departed the area and returned to the podrace hangar. Skywalker engaged Maxus in a hand-to-hand brawl and soon Rex intervened. Kareen and Tano witnessed the fight, although it was broken up by Kareen. Maxus revealed to Kareen that Skywalker was caught snooping around their pit. Unwillingly, Kareen blamed Tano for the matter and thought she only wanted to be friends to sabotage his crew. But, Tao defended herself by saying it was a misunderstanding. Skywalker, Tano and Rex soon returned to Tano's pod and prepared for the next race. Maxus told Kareen that he doesn't like them, and revealed that Tano wasn't a podracer.[21]
On the track, Skywalker went over the basics of podracing with Tano. He told his apprentice to concentrate and feel, and don't think. Kareen helped Maxus assemble his pod on the track and awaited the single to begin the first lap. Skywalker and Rex watched Tano's progress by the crowd bleachers. Soon, the first lap began and Tano raced up towards first place. Maxus, who was in first, saw the Togruta approach him and blocked off her advance. Another podracer crashed into Tano, which caused her pod to spin out of control. She saved her pod and continued to race up toward Maxus, who remained in first. However, Tano soon crashed when another podracer rear-ended her pod. Skywalker and Rex ran toward Tano and her wrecked podracer. While Rex helped her up, Kareen approached her. Though she crashed, Tano finished in tenth place, which earned her a spot on the Mon Gazza Maze race. Kareen told Tano that she can borrow one of his spare pods for the next race. Yet, Maxus confronted Kareen and was angered when his friend let Tano borrow one of their pods. Kareen defended Tano, although Maxus was unsatisfied with Kareen's behavior.[21]
After the race, Skywalker and Rex tracked Maxus into a cantina, in Miner's town. Maxus contacted Dooku via hologram and told him about the suspicious new racer. Dooku sent Maxus a holovid recording of Skywalker and Tano, which revealed them to be Jedi. Meanwhile back at the hangar, Kareen showed Tano the controls to her new podracer. Kareen wanted to know more about Tano, but Tano, keeping her identify hidden, denied. As the two were about to kiss one and another, however, Skywalker and Rex intervened. The Twi'lek soon left the area, but allowed himself to kiss Tano on the cheek for luck before he departed. Skywalker didn't hesitate to tell Tano their discovering in the cantina. He revealed to her that Maxus contacted Dooku, and that Kareen maybe apart of the scheme. Tano remained hurt for a while, but was told by Skywalker that they would bring Maxus and Kareen to justice in the next race.[21]

Preparing his pod, Maxus showed Kareen the recording that Dooku sent him. Revealing that Tano was actually a Jedi, Kareen was hurt, because Tano lied to him. He told Maxus that he needed to stop being a spy; however, the Devaronian told Kareen that no one would believe him if he told anyone about Maxus's connection with Dooku. Later on, the Mon Gazza Maze race began. Wile Skywalker and Rex watched Tano's progress, the Togruta raced up toward Kareen, who was racing against Maxus. Soon, Maxus stopped near his pit stop. Tano questioned the situation to Skywalker and saw that Maxus was delivering the datadisk to a Rodian. When Skywalker and Rex ran toward them, however, Maxus jumped back into his podracer and took off. Skywalker and Rex confronted the Rodian, who was part of Kareen's crew. On the track, Kareen told Maxus to stop spying and end his affiliation with the war. However, Tano drove up behind Kareen and shouted him to stop his pod. Although, Maxus bumped into Tano's pod, which alerted Skywalker and Rex. Tano felt both Kareen and Maxus would kill her, but soon Kareen defended Tano by bumping into Maxus's pod. Unbeknownst to Tano, Maxus sabotaged her new pod before the race, which caused it to malfunction. Kareen told her to jump onto his pod before her pod crashed. Back at the hangar, Skywalker mounted on a speederbike, and utilized it to save his struggling Padawan. Confronting the racers, Ventress arrived on the planet and appeared on the track. The Dark Acolyte jumped onto Maxus's podracer. Noticing Ventress, Tano Force jumped onto Maxus's pod and engaged her in a lightsaber duel. However, Ventress Force pushed Tano, which caused the Togruta to lose her balance. While the group thought Maxus gave the data file to a Rodian, he actually kept the disk and showed it to Ventress.[21]
Before handing it to Ventress, Tano tried to reach for the file, but the Dark Acolyte grabbed it from Maxus. Before she stored the disk, Skywalker raced toward the pod on a speederbike and Force crushed the disk, destroying it. Ventress soon dismissed the broken data disk and escaped from the scene. Before jumping onto Kareen's pod, Tano used her lightsaber to destroy Maxus's pod, which caused it to crash. Skywalker met up with Kareen and Tano near the hangar. Before Skywalker, Tano, and Rex departed Mon Gazza on the Twilight, Kareen apologized to Tano. He kissed Tano's hand before she boarded the freighter, and Tano promised Kareen that both her and Skywalker would return and race after the war was over. After their successful mission, Kenobi contacted Skywalker. He told his former master that he destroyed the data file. The Jedi Knight then directed his attention to Tano and explained her behavior she displayed during her part of the mission.[21]
Becoming a slave
- "It's all this…destruction, master. The Togruta are my people. To watch their way of life, all they built over generations laid to waste in one day isn't easy."
- ―Ahsoka Tano to Anakin Skywalker
Mounted on a BARC speeder, Tano was slicing apart B2 super battle droids with her lightsaber. Along with her master, Kenobi, and Rex, the group were on the Torgruta colony planet of Kiros. The world itself had been overrun by Confederate forces, staged by Confederate Head of State Count Dooku. While Skywalker assumed responsibility of driving the BARC speeder that Tano was on, the group soon ran into five Armored Assault Tanks. Thanks to Rex, the clone captain used a missile launcher, and successfully destroyed the AATs before they caused crippled the Republic's assault. Tano left the BARC speeder and walked up to a destroyed Togruta statue, and felt sadden by the destruction of what her people had built. Kenobi concluded that they have yet to see any Togruta population on Kiros.[22]
Clone trooper Commander CC-2224, nicknamed "Cody," appeared and told Kenobi that the commander of the droid army on Kiros wanted to talk to him. After Kenobi left, Tano questioned about Kenobi's well being to Skywalker, although the Jedi Knight dismissed her claiming negotiating was what he lived for. Rex received Kenobi's comlink channel, and Tano, Skywalker heard the noise coming from it. Skywalker's astromech droid, R2-D2, told Skywalker that he found the bombs that were activated throughout the city. Upon leaving the area in their BARC speeder, Skywalker told his Padawan that he would destroy the droids protecting the bombs, while she deactivated them. Tano, who was worried she might "mess up," was told to not over-think by her master as she was deactivating the bombs; and if she messed up by clipping the wrong wire, the bomb would explode. The group then left to deactivate another bomb, however, it was guarded by a droideka stationed in an overlooking balcony. While Tano used her lightsaber to slice the wire to deactivate the bomb, Skywalker contacted Rex via comlink and alert him of the situation with the droideka. After the second bomb was deactivated, Tano and Skywalker reboarded their speeder bike and descended toward another one. Although, Tano instead had to deactivate it as they drove by, which was successful.[22]
The two soon entered a underground sewer, which contained another bomb. Using her lightsaber, Tano telekinetically threw it, and the saber sliced through the bomb's top. B1 battle droids were also stationed below ground, firing at the two Jedi. After the last bomb was destroyed, Tano revealed that she believes that the war against the Confederacy was just a game, while Skywalker believed they were fighting for freedom. The two returned to find an injured Kenobi being reported to safety by a clone trooper and Rex. As Tano began to worry for Kenobi's well being, Admiral Yularen, who was stationed on the orbiting Resolute, contacted the group via hologrma and reported that the bio-scan was negative, meaning the Togruta population had disappeared. Kenobi told him that he had copied the deceased droid commander chief, Xerius Ugg, and revealed that the chief contacted Zygerrians numerous times. Tano questioned on what the Zygerrians were, and Skywalker told her that they were slave traders. The team then boarded their LAAT/i gunship, preparing to leave for the Zygerria system.[22]
The aftermath of the battle on Kiros caused the Togruta population of the planet to disappear. Jedi Grand Master Yoda contacted High General Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Anakin Skywalker to alert them of the disappearance of the population. While the Jedi were blamed, Both Tano and Kenobi noticed that something was out-of-place. Kenobi then revealed that their was activity in the Zygerria system, which was brought to Yoda's attention. The Zygerrians were no stranger to the elder Jedi Master, and an investigation in their system would be necessary. Staging the mission to the Zygerria system, Kenobi warned Skywalker that they had to be cautious, although the Jedi Knight declined. His reaction to Kenobi's statement concerned Tano. Kenobi revealed to her that her master was once a slave, and he tried to push that part of his life behind him. Eventually, Skywalker suggested that they would go around the trade routes that led to Zygerria, to avoid detection. Skywalker, Kenobi, Tano, Captain Rex, and a group of clone troopers left in the Twilight and journeyed to the Zygerria system.[23]
The group ventured through the remains of the once Shi'kar homeworld. Skywalker urged Kenobi that they should have brought their battlegroup and depart to Zygerria, although Kenobi told him that with "luck," they would be able to find a Zygerrian slave freighter. Skywalker's astromech droid, R2-D2, alerted Tano and Rex that there was a freighter approaching in the distance. After the clone captain told Skywalker, the Jedi Knight told Tano to charge up their main weapons; however, Kenobi denied the use of an attack and suggested that they negotiate with the slavers on the freighter. After contacting the freighter, the ship's captain, Onyx, allowed them to enter, under the impression that the group were "amateurs." The Twilight docked with the freighter, and Skywalker, Kenobi, and Tano journeyed inside the Zygerrian slave freighter. Onyx and few Zygerrian armed slaves greeted the group. Since Tano was a Togruta, Skywalker and Kenobi used Tano as "merchandise," to impress the Zygerrians, although their negotiation was cut short after Skywalker activated his lightsaber.[23]
Skywalker ordered Onyz to surrender, although he declined and began to fire at the Jedi Knight. Kenobi and Tano soon followed and activated their lightsabers, which shocked Onyx and his men. More blaster fire consumed the area, and soon clone troopers approached to backed the Jedi up. Zygerrian slavers approached from behind the Jedi and, before injuring Kenobi, Rex warned Kenobi of the attack. Kenobi then ordered an retreat, however, one slaver took out a missile launcher and fired it at Tano and Rex. The blast damage caused the shield door—which allowed the Jedi and clones to re-enter the Twilight—to fall near the clone captain. Tano used the Force and held it, allowing Rex to rejoin Kenobi and Skywalker. The group soon departed back into the Twilight, although Skywalker noticed that Tano was missing. The Togruta Padawan was left onboard the freighter, but it was part of her plan of tricking the Zygerrians. A slaver told Onyx about the injured Tano, and soon they brought her to the cockpit of the ship. Meanwhile, Kenobi and Skywalker couldn't release the Twilight from the Zygerrian freighter which concerned the two Jedi.[23]
They then received a comlink transmission from Tano, who was held inside the cockpit of the slave ship. Skywalker told her to unlock their rear airlock doors to allow them to enter it. She acknowledged and used the Force to open the doors, while not alerting Onyx and his slavers in the cockpit. Using pressurized space suits, Skywalker, Kenobi and a group of clones left the Twilight to rescue Tano. After a minor attack by a Blixus, Skywalker and Kenobi ambushed the cockpit of the freighter and killed all but Onyz, who held Tano by the neck and pointed a blaster at her head. Kenobi calmed the Zygerrian down by stating they don't wish to fight, but instead know the location of the missing Kiros Togruta population. After Onyz revealed that the Togruta population was being traded inside the Zygerrian homeworld, the Jedi and clones left in the Twilight.[23]
Onyx allowed the Republic group to use his freighter, the Fate's Hand, and take it to the Zygerrian system. Rex maintained the freighter's controls, while Skywalker was maintaining the freighter's navigation systems. Noticing the amount of yachts in the surrounding area, Tano commented on the situation. Skywalker was aware of the matter, and soon revealed that the Zygerrians were aligned with the Separatists. After Rex transmitted the ship's clearance code, which would allow them to land in the city's capital, the clone captain landed the ship on platform A-627. In a section of the freighter, Rex, Skywalker, and Kenobi disguised themselves as slave traders, while Tano wore a slave coat over her slave outfit. However, when Skywalker told Tano that she wouldn't be involved in the slave auction, Kenobi declined and considered Tano would play a part in their plan.[24]
Skywalker, who agreed to let Tano play a role, ventured with his Padawan to the city's trader district. Upon arriving, Tano's emotions were struggling, as the slaves being tortured around her was overwhelming. When Tano saw a Zygerrian slave trader was about to use his whip on a slave child, she stopped him, although the trader brute punched her in the face. Skywalker noticed this, and told the trader that she won't bring any harm, but the trader warned Skywalker that he would call security. Using a mind trick, Skywalker successfully fooled the trader to his dismiss. The Jedi Knight picked up his Padawan and ushered her back to the freighter. Soon, Tano rejoined her master, after he negotiated a deal with the Zygerrians, which would allow Tano to join the slave auction. Tano gave R2-D2 her's and her master's lightsabers, before joining Kenobi. While Skywalker was talking to the auction's overseer, Queen Miraj Scintel, Tano and Kenobi ventured below the Zygeerian palace, and found Governor Roshti of Kiros.[24]
While Tano tried to help Roshti escape his prison cell, a Zygerrian prison guard spotted Tano. Kenobi told Tano to mount on a creature to transport Roshti out of the catacombs. While doing so, Skywalker contacted her via comlink and asked her to meet him at the palace, although Tano, who was under attack by various Zygerrians, had to get Roshti to a safe place. Kenobi, who was mounted on a similar creature that Tano was using, had to separate from Tano. Before separating, however, Roshti joined Kenobi, but they were soon captured by Zygerrian slave traders. Tano met up with Skywalker at the palace, and the disguised Jedi Knight showed Tano to her. Tano, who used the name Zaa Vashee, the incumbent princess to the throne of the Togruta homeworld Shili, acted out a believable story, which Skywalker, under his slave trader name of Lars Quell, took Tano from her homeworld and wanted to auction her off for a good price.[24]
The queen believed Tano, and gave Skywalker permission to auction her off in the next slave trade. Soon, the queen escorted Skywalker and Tano to the auction. When they arrived, the three stood on a balcony, overlooking the audience that were attending the auction. For Tano, however, she began to worry when the auction announcer showed the crowd Roshti, and announced that other Togruta from Kiros would be sold off as well.
The Malevolence
- "I know he's alive!"
"Ahsoka!" - ―Tano, commenting on Koon's well-being to Skywalker
Near the Bith system,[25] Tano and Skywalker received a transmission from Jedi Master Plo Koon. Koon, who was in the Abregado system, was happy to see Tano once again. The Jedi Master's connection, however, was soon deactivated after Confederate General Grievous jammed Koon's Venator-class Star Destroyer's transmissions with his flagship, the Malevolence. Soon, Tano and Skywalker left the bridge of the Resolute to begin their meeting with Jedi Masters Kenobi, Mace Windu, Yoda, and Chancellor Palpatine via hologram. While Skywalker ordered Tano to not intervene during the meeting, she abruptly entered the conversation after the Jedi and Supreme Chancellor conferred about Jedi Master Plo Koon's well being. Koon—who was forced to evacuate his star destroyer with a group of clones—was a close friend of Tano.[26]

Her opposition and rude behavior caused the Jedi, including Skywalker, to feel unwary of the matter. After ending the meeting, Skywalker warned Tano to never do such a thing again; however, Tano reinstated her request in finding Koon and his clones. After the two boarded the Twilight, they were contacted by Kenobi and Palpatine, who were worried of Skywalker's sudden decision to find Koon. Tired, and unwilling to continue the search, Skywalker told his Padawan that they must return, but, Tano, who "knew Koon was still alive," wanted to proceed with their search. After taking control of the Twilight's pilot systems, the two Jedi found Koon and his group of clones within the debris field,[26] near the red-giant star, Anza.[25]
After using the Twilight's tow cable to pull Koon's escape pod inside the freighter's rear cargo bay, Tano and Skywalker greeted the Jedi Master. Before returning to the cockpit of the Twilight, Tano gave her Jedi friend a hug as a sign of respect, and for his safe rescue. While scavenging through a nearby debris field, the Malevolence continued to hunt the escape pods of Koon's fleet. Upon witnessing a high-wave of energy through the Twilight's scanner, Koon ordered Skywalker and Tano to shut down the freighter's power systems to avoid detection. Hovering near the Twilight, the Malevolence revealed its large ion pulse cannon—a weapon capable of disabling a ship with a single blast—on its side as it flew past the Jedi. Entering the bridge of the freighter, TB-2, the Twilight's medical droid, asked if the Jedi needed help. After Tano alerted Koon and Skywalker that they forgot to turn off the droid, Skywalker ordered his astromech droid, R2-D2, to turn the main power systems back on and plot a course for an immediate hyperspace jump.[26]
Acknowledging, the droid went to plot a course, however, the Malevolence soon found the fleeing Twilight. However, the freighter jumped into hyperspace, before the an ion pulse wave disabled the ship. Upon returning to the Resolute, Skywalker told Tano that he was thankful for her courage of finding Koon. However, while they had to inform the Jedi Council of their success, the Jedi Knight wanted his Padawan to join him to "share some of the blame" for the mission they undertook to rescue Koon.[26]
Attempting to track the Malevolence, Tano accompanied her master in securing newly manufactured BTL-B Y-wing starfighters from the Bormus Testing Facility. While at the factory, Senator Ask Aak notified Skywalker via hologram, and told him that there would be delay with the arrival of starfighters. However, the Jedi Knight went over the issue with Tano, and the two of them threatened to tell Chancellor Palpatine of the delay. Giving into Skywalker's demands, Aak agreed and gave Skywalker a squad of Y-Wings for his squadron, Shadow Squadron.[27] Bringing the new starfighters to the Resolute, Koon and Tano met with Skywalker in the hangar. After the Jedi Knight and Yularen went over Skywalker's plan of engaging the Malevolence and taking out the ship's leader, General Grievous, Tano felt uneasy of his plan, although Koon calmed her by expressing his opinion of Skywalker's plan. Yularen, however, alerted Skywalker that Grievous planned to destroy Republic medial transports that were attempting to dock with the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center, which was housing more than 60,000 wounded clone troopers. Soon, Shadow Squadron, led by Skywalker, left the Resolute. As the clones and Skywalker made use of the newly acquired Y-Wings, Koon gave support by flying in his starfighter. Tano, however, sat within Skywalker's Y-Wing turret bubble after Skywalker denied the idea of letting her fly a Y-Wing on her own.[28]
Taking a shortcut through the Balmorra Run, an old smuggler route that ran through the Kaliida Nebula, the Republic group were confronted by Neebray mantas, whom inhabit the Kaliida Nebula. Tano, who still didn't comply with Skywalker's plan, suggested to avoid the route, due to the nebula's interference with the fighters' navicomputers. After leaving the Nebula, the group soon witnessed the Malevolence near the Republic's medical center. Initiating the attack on the Malevolence, the Y-Wings, followed closely by Koon's Delta-7B starfighter, engaged Vulture droids that came from the Malevolence. While Skywalker was leading the attack toward the Confederate battleship, Tano gave her master support by firing at the battle droids via her turret bubble's laser cannon. Making way toward the Malevolence, the ship released an ion wave that was headed toward Shadow Squadron. Skywalker quickly ordered his fighters to fly around the[28] energy-crippling[29] wave to avoid any casualties. However, few Y-wings, and the majority of Vulture droids, were left powerless after the ion wave passed over them. Another causality, "Shadow Two" fighter, nicknamed "Matchstick," died in an explosion, which concerned Tano. With the help of Koon, the Padawan eventually warned to master to discontinue his original plan of taking out the Malevolence's bridge, due to the heavy losses they were facing.[28]
Acknowledging Tano and Koon, Skywalker ordered the remaining fighters of Shadow Squadron to target the Malevolence's starboard ion cannon. After firing a series of proton torpedoes, the Republic force successfully crippled the massive battleship. Soon, the group of fighters landed within the nearby medical center to recover. Skywalker and Tano met with the medical center's leader, Kaminoan female Nala Se, inside the command center of the medical station. Se thanked Skywalker for protecting the station that housed the injured clones. Before joining her master near the docked Y-wings, the Padawan told the Kaminoan that her master was "one of a kind."[28]

Onboard the Resolute, Tano told Skywalker, Kenobi, Koon, and Yualren that an incoming Naboo starfighter was approaching the crippling Malevolence. After the Padawan made contact with the cruiser, Senator Padmé Amidala and her protocol droid, C-3PO, were about to rendezvous with a InterGalactic Banking Clan representative, although were caught by the Malevolence's trap. After the starfighter was brought onboard the massive battleship by its tractor beam, Skywalker concluded that they must rescue her. While Kenobi and R2 joined Skywalker, Tano remained with Koon and Yualren on the Resolute.[30]
Soon, Jedi Master Luminara Unduli contacted Koon and Tano via hologram, and told them that her fleet near the Kaliida Nebula would help them. Yularen soon intervened and reported to Koon that the Resolute is receiving an incoming comlink transmission from Amidala. Tano, then, redirected the transmission to Skywalker, and advised the Jedi Knight that he and Amdiala should meet within a large, open area within the Malevolence. Eventually, the Republic Venator-class Star Destroyers were situated in their attack positions, and Koon, unable to make contact with the Republic force within the Malevolence, was told by Tano to give Skywalker and his team more time to rescue Amdiala. Upon witnessing Skywalker's freighter, the Twilight, exited the side hatch of the Confederate battleship, Koon ordered the crew of the Resolute to open fire on the crippling Malevolence. Seeing that the Malevolence was about to jump to hyperspace, the group within the Resolute cheered after the battleship crashed in a nearby dead moon, thanks to Skywalker's sabotage he conducted while on the Malevolence.[30]
Wind Raiders
- "I have to tell you, Rex, I find this diplomacy stuff a little sloooow."
"You'd rather be fighting?"
"Well, I don't like it; but it's more interesting to me than diplomacy. That's all just talk!"
"Seems just a different kind of fighting to me. A kind I'm not trained for."
"Do you like fighting, Rex?"
"It's what I know, that's all." - ―Tano and Rex, confer onboard the Resolute
Above the Bothan colony planet of Kothlis, Tano, along with Rex, were inside a BTL-B Y-wing starfighter. As Tano piloted the starfighter, Rex was docked within the fighter's torrent bubble; making quick work of oncoming Vulture droids. While Skywalker and Kenobi flew in their respective Delta-7B starfighters, Tano contiuned to destroy Vulture droids before making way toward a Lucrehulk-class battleship. The Padawan, however, managed to launch her proton torpedoes at the enemy cruiser, bringing an end to the space battle above Kothlis.[31]

Soon, Tano joined Skywalker, Kenobi, and Yoda on the surface of the planet and conferred with Bothan representatives of the Bothan Spynet. Yoda, who wanted the Bothans to join the cause of the Republic, wanted the planet's first secretary, Desark Fey'lya, to agree with the Republic's demand. However, Tano intervened and dictated that the Bothan male was lying. Enraged, the Bothan briefly questioned Tano's remark, although the Padawan continued to reveal her feelings of the matter. Angry at the young Togruta Padawan, the Bothans revealed that their spynet would remain neutral before leaving the Jedi.[31]
Unhappy with his Padawan, Skywalker told Tano that Yoda was taking care of the matter, and knew that the Bothan was lying. He then told his Padawan they were doing diplomatic work for the Republic. Yoda then gave Skywalker and Tano the task of taking the Tibanna gas rich world of Taloraan for the Republic. The mission would be the beginning of Tano's diplomatic training. Onboard the Resolute, the Jedi—Skywalker, Kenobi, and Tano—approched the planet of Taloraan with a squadron of V-19 torrent starfighters. Onboard the Resolute, Tano began to confer with Rex before joining the meeting between Admiral Yularen, Skywalker, and Kenobi.[31]
The admiral, however, revealed that Taloraan has a strong magnetic field—reducing communication between the Resolute and the Jedi on the planet. Departing the Resolute in a Nu-class attack shuttle, the shuttle entered the planet's atmosphere. Tano questioned about the Denfrandi, and Skywalker assumed that the Human descendants would be their guide to the captial of the planet. After Kenobi witnessed oncoming Wind Raiders, flying Fleft-wauf, a bird-like creature, the Raiders attacked the shuttle before being pushed back by the timely arrival of the Denfrandi escort.[31]
Upon landing in Taloraan City, the Jedi were greeted by Sech Govlinder, a emissary to Orlin Denache, magister of the Taloraan City. Kenobi stated that himself and Skywalker would begin negotiations with the Taloraan government, while Tano observed. After Govlinder revealed that the Defrandi were the chosen people to lead Taloraan, and that the Wind Raiders were just "scum," the group entered the meeting chamber and began negotiations for the tibanna gas colony.[31]
Immediately, Tano began to feel boredom. The back-and-forth discussions between Govlinder, Kenobi and Skywalker were too overwhelming for the teenaged Togruta Padawan. Soon, the first round of negotiations were complete, and the Jedi were then escorted to private room to refresh themselves. The Padawan announced that Govelinder was lying, although Kenobi stated that he and Skywalker were only doing diplomatic work, and it required for them to lie as well. Seeing the opportunity to leave, Tano took protocol droid, C9-RX0, and began to browse around the city.[31]
Overlooking the city from a balcony, Tano and C9 witnessed flying Sleft-chuff creatures in the skies of Taloraan. However, the Padawan's interest turned to armed guards walking near a warehouse. Tano told the droid that she'll check it out, but C9 offered her the suggestion of asking the guards for access. Behind the alley of the warehouse, Tano Force jumped to a window of the warehouse and saw an assembly line full of Confederate B1 battle droids. The Padawan tried to make contact with her master, however, the guards spotted Tano and began to fire. She then jumped form the window towards two armed gauds, and quickly dispatched them via the Force.[31]
Two droids emerged and chased after the fleeing Tano. As the Padawan continued to run, Skywalker contacted her via comlink, and Tano revealed that she was being chased. From a dead-end corrider, Tano free fell toward one of the Sleft-chuff creatures. After seeking refuge on top of a Wind Raider Fleft-wauf, a group of Vulture droids engaged the flying bird. However, the droid killed the Fleft-wauf, which made Tano fall. The Padawan was swiftly recovered by a Wind Raider, mounted on another bird. Taking to her to his Wind Raider camp, the tribe claimed that Tano was to be their "prize." The Wind Raider who saved her, revealed that she is to be his price, and the chief of the Wind Raiders, Bafor, backed up his claim. Angered, Tano told the chief that she was a Jedi, although Bafor did not know what "Jedi" was. Another Wind Raider, named Nardek, wanted to battle Jeru for Tano. As the pair began to fight for the young Togruta female, Nardek won.[31]
In retaliation against Nardek, Tano used the Force to attack Nardek, which brought him to the ground. After Tano emerged victorious over the other two defeated Wind Raiders, the chief announced that the Togruta was free to go. Before leaving, Tano told the chief that the Separatists are attacking Taloraan, and would take over the planet. After Jeru supported what Tano said, the chief was still dumbfounded. The Padawan then began to negotiate a deal with the Wind Raiders, hoping for them to agree upon. Her discussion was a successful one, and soon Jeru and Tano mounted a Fleft-wauf and emerged back to Taloraan City to protect Kenobi and Skywalker, whom were fighting battle droids.[31]
Tano jumped toward her master, and engaged the droids. Kenobi soon joined the two, and they continued to deflect the blaster fire with their lightsabers. After defeating the droids, Govlinder appeared and reminded the Jedi about their ongoing negotiations. Jeru appeared and told Tano that he was ready to take the goods and supplies Tano offered to the Wind Raider. He then announced that the chief of the Wind Raiders made Tano an honorary Wind Raider, and in return for her well-doing, they gave her a Fleft-wauf of her own to fly.[31]
Capture of Gunray
- "With all due respect, I am only three parsecs from Rodia now. I feel I should…I should continue to carry out the orders given to me by my master."
"Hmm… A Padawan's place it is to follow her master. Very well, Ahsoka. Proceed you may." - ―Ahsoka Tano and Master Yoda
Sometime during the war, Tano accompanied her master in a battle on a planet. During the battle, the Republic successfully made contact with Senator Padmé Amidala, whom was on the planet of Rodia. The senator captured Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray, and was preparing to transfer the captive Viceroy to Jedi Master Luminara Unduli's approaching fleet. To accompany Unduli, Skywalker wanted to send Tano to help the Jedi Master. However, Tano didn't want to leave her master's side, but eventually complied with her master's wish. Soon, Tano boarded a Nu-class attack shuttle, and made contact with Yoda via hologram. The Jedi Master wanted to know why Tano was traveling to Unduli without her master. After the Togruta Padawan told Yoda that she was only following her master's orders and was less than three parsecs away from Rodia, the Jedi Master understood her, and let her continue to travel to the Tyrius system, which contained the planet Rodia. [32]

Tano docked with Unduli's Consular-class cruiser, and met Unduli for the first time. The Jedi Master, however, was not pleased to see Tano, as she didn't need a Padawan for the assignment of transferring Nute Gunray from Rodia to her[32] Venator-class Star Destroyer, Tranquility. But, Tano remained with Unduli as they Gunray boarded the cruiser. The group made their way toward Tranquility's lower hangar bay, and were greeted by Captain Faro Argyus when they boarded the Star Destroyer. Argyus, Unduli, Tano, and Clone Commander CC-1004, nicknamed "Gree," took Gunray to his prison cell in the detention level of the Star Destroyer. Knowing that Gunray had a strong connection with the Confederacy, Tano and Unduli interrogated Gunray in his cell. However, Gunray, who was unwilling to tell the Jedi information, was soon threatened by Tano, who pointed her lightsaber at the Neimoidian's neck.[33]
While Unduli was not pleased with Tano's aggressiveness, Gunray decided that it would be wise for him to negotiate with the Jedi. However, before they began their negotiation, a tremor shook the Star Destroyer. Gree alerted Unduli, and revealed that the captain of the Tranquility told Gree that the Star Destroyer is under attack by Separatist boarding ships. When the Jedi left Gunray's cell with their prisoner still in it, Undili ordered Gree to accompany her to the hangar bay to help the troops, leaving Gunray's protection under Tano and Argyus. Soon, Asajj Ventress forcefully entered the detention level, and was hastily greeted by Tano. The two exchanged words before engaging in a short lightsaber duel. Tano ordered Argyus and his men to fire on Ventress, though the Dark Jedi managed to deflect all shots. Having parried Tano's attacks, the Dark Acolyte slipped past the Padawan and released Gunray from his prison cell. When Tano was racing toward Ventress, however, the Dark Acolyte pushed Tano into the cell, trapping her within.[33]
Unduli, who sensed that Tano was in danger, came back to the detention level with Gree. The Jedi Master released Tano from the prison cell. The two Jedi ordered Ventress to surrender, although unbeknownst to the Jedi, Ventress had set thermal detonators throughout Tranquility's engine room. The bombs were activated by Ventress, which shook the Star Destroyer, and allowed her to escape the Jedi. When the Dark Acolyte utilized her lightsabers to skid down an open elevator shaft, Tano wanted to follow, although was denied by Unduli. The Jedi Master ordered Tano to stay with Argyus and keep an eye on Gunray, while she took care of their adversary. By Gunray's cell, Tano released her frustration of Unduli telling her staying behind to Argyus and his men. When both Argyus and Gree voiced their opinions of the matter, Argyus told Tano that Gunray would be safe in his care, which allowed her to find Unduli and help her.[33]

The Padawan arrived at the Star Destroyer's engine room, only to find Unduli trapped under a series of metal pipes. Before Ventress could harm Unduli, Tano Force pushed the Dark Acolyte into an open pipe, and helped the Jedi Master out of the pipes. Tano gave Unduli her fallen lightsaber, before activating her own lightsaber. After seeing Tano, Ventress attacked her and Unduli. Their duel continued throughout the engine room, although Ventress soon left the area and hid from the Jedi. When Gree contacted Unduli via comlink, the clone commander told her that Argyus betrayed them and freed Gunray. Before Tano and Unduli departed the engine room, however, Ventress reemerged and attacked the two again. Their fight soon ended when Ventress Force jumped onto a platform. Tano followed her, but when Ventress tossed a thermal detonator near Tano's feet, the resulting explosion made Tano loose her balance and fall below near Unduli. The Jedi Master saved Tano, before the latter fell into the hypermatter below her. Ventress escaped the area, and made way toward the escape pods to meet up with Arygus and Gunray, whom boarded the Consular-class cruiser, which was docked in the Tranquility's lower hangar bay.[33]
Tano and Unduli ran toward Ventress, although the Dark Acotlye had jettisoned onboard an escape pod en route to Argyus' cruiser. Back inside the Tranquility's bridge,[33] the Star Destroyer's communication systems had been restored,[34] and Tano and Unduli made contact with Skywalker and Yoda via hologram. Tano told her master that they couldn't secure Gunray's capture, while Yoda was displeased with Argyus' betrayal. Unduli, however, revealed that Gunray had fled on an Republic cruiser, which can be tracked. Jedi Master Kit Fisto was near the cruiser's last position. Before Skywalker closed his connection with the Tranquility, Tano told his master that she would meet him at a rendezvous point they had set up. Tano soon said farewell to Unduli, although before she left, Unduli told her that Skywalker should be proud of her accomplishments she had showed Unduli.[33] When the cruiser's tracking signal was found in the Vassek system, Fisto arrived at the system, and was contacted by Unduli and Tano via hologram. The two Jedi told Fisto of Gunray's release from the Republic's custody. Tano wished the Jedi Master luck of finding Gunray, and gave him coordinates to a rendezvous point.[35]
Assigned missions
- "We've located a secret base nearby and also believe that Anakin's Padawan, Ahsoka, might be held inside. Infiltrate the base and free her by all means necessary!"
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi

Tano was stationed onboard the Twilight when Skywalker devised a plan to infiltrate Sith Lord Count Dooku's personal frigate. After repairing his own starfighter, Skywalker wanted Tano and Kenobi to release the Twilight's cargo bay. His starfighter, with him inside, would serve as a distraction to secretly enter Dooku's frigate above an ice field. While Skywalker followed through with his plan, Kenobi ordered Tano to take the Twilight back to the Resolute.[36] Once there, Tano joined Rex on the bridge of the Star Destroyer. As both Dooku's frigate and the Resolute ventured near the planet Vanqor, Skywalker and Kenobi left the frigate to chase after the fleeing Dooku, who was onboard his personal solar sailer. Eventually, Tano and a group of clone troopers left the Resolute onboard a Nu-class shuttle, and prepared to rescue Skywalker and Kenobi. On the planet, the group successfully destroyed a barrier of rocks that blocked in the two Jedi. After reuniting with her master, Tano found out that both him and Kenobi failed to capture Dooku, who had left the planet with a group of pirates.[37]
Some time during the war, Tano rendezvous with a Jedi Master on the Pantoran planet of Orto Plutonia. The Jedi Master, however, wasn't sure of Tano's presence at first, although the Padawan told him that her master had sent her to rescue him. After leaving the planet, Tano was soon captured by a Confederate force. They took the Togruta Padawan and held her within a heavily guarded prison located on Tatooine. Clone trooper Denal, who had previously served Tano on Skytop Station, was dispatched to Tatooine to investigate a small droid encampment. After receiving word of Tano's capture by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Denal met with the rescued Jedi Master from Orto Plutonia. Along with Denal's squad, the Republic force make their way to a console, located within the prison that contained Tano. Using it to locate Tano's detention cell, the group found the Padawan within her cell, and dispatched droids guarding it. Tano, who was uninjured, joined Denal and his group and left the planet.[38]
Eventually, the Republic discovered that a radar-cloaking superweapon was being developed in a base on Orto Plutonia. Denal's squad returned to the planet, and were dropped off behind enemy lines to destroy the superweapon's mainframe. After Denal witnessed that they're too many dwarf spider droids, he then met up with Tano, who was near a nearby console that could turn off the base's shield in order to call in an air strike. Tano, who was accompanied by the same Jedi Master she had rescued, told Denal that the main forces were stalled by the Separatists, meaning that Denal must complete the mission alone. However, the Padawan was able to cut another way to the base by using her lightsaber. While she told Denal that she would help him, Tano instead stood near the console, while the unidentified Jedi joined Denal. The two then entered the hole that Tano made, and both successfully sabotaged the mainframe, bringing an end to the weapon.[38]
On the planet Gall, Tano and Skywalker were flying separate Jet-wings toward a ray-shielded droid landing craft. The two landed undetected on the hull of ship and entered it through a passage way Skywalker found. Inside a room, Tano and Skywalker walked past deactivated B1 battle droids. Noticing this, Tano questioned it to her master, to which Skywalker revealed about the landing craft's power diverted to the shield generator, rendering B1 battle droids useless, as they have no power. Upon arriving at the craft's shield generator room, Tano and Skywalker planted thermal detonators around the generator. However, unbeknownst to the two Jedi, mounted on the generator was an alarm system. When it went off, battle droids entered the room and began to shoot at Tano and Skywalker. The two Jedi activated their lightsabers and dispatched the droids. Skywalker cut a hole through the landing ship's floor, enabling the two Jedi to escape before the craft exploded. Hovering beneath them were their starfighters, which were retrieved by Skywalker's astromech droid R2-D2.[39]
After the Twilight received a distress call from a merchant onboard his malfunctioned frigate, Tano was displeased with the thought of rescuing "a fat merchant," instead of fighting in battlefields. Once the Twilight reached the frigate, Skywalker and Rex scanned the ship for any clues. Tano, however, spotted battle droids in the frigate, and pointed the frigate's blaster cannons at the Twilight. Once Tano alerted her master, Skywalker ordered her and Rex to turn the ship around. Yet, the battle droids managed to hit the Twilight, which caused a fire in the bridge. The blaster shots also caused the Twilight's main controls to malfunction. After General Grievous contacted the Twilight and ordered Skywalker to surrender via hologram, Skywalker, however, ordered Tano to ready the ship's grappling hooks. Once the hooks grabbed onto the hull of the merchant's frigate, Skywalker placed himself within a space suit, and left Tano in charge of the Twilight, while he and Rex went out to stop the battle droids. Skywalker ordered Tano to release the hooks, which launched him and Rex up toward the Twilight.[40]
Deep within an asteroid field, Tano was piloting her own Delta-7B starfighter. Her master, Skywalker, had given her an assignment to deliver a message on the planet Maarka. For the mission, Skywalker gave her his own astromech droid, R2, for support. Yet, Tano, who mocked Skywalker's orders along the way back to the Resolute, was displeased her the assignment. Instead of being a "messenger girl," she preferred to study to become a Jedi Knight. Eventually, Tano's starfighter was attacked by a tier of Vulture droids. As the Padawan fired at the droids, Tano concluded that the Confederacy was staging an attack on Maarka. As the fight continued, Tano "cleared her mind" to destroy the droids. Using the asteroids, Tano maneuvered around the rocks to trick the droids. The Padawan was successful, and she left the asteroid field to rendezvous with Skywalker onboard the Resolute. Skywalker, who noticed that Tano's starfighter was damaged, wanted to know what had happened. When he told her that every job she received served a purpose, Tano dictated that she knew.[41]
Around the first year of the war, Tano stood next to her master in the Jedi Council room in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. After viewing a hologram showing a clone trooper being killed by a lightsaber-user, the council discussed that the attack was orchestrated by Dooku. Two Jedi were given their assignment of finding the Sedawan and finding its cargo of lightsaber crystals.[42][43]
Crash on Maridun
- "I'm just glad he wasn't awake to see that landing!"
"He would've been proud."
"I've certainly perfected the art of demolishing ships and almost getting my master killed." - ―Tano and Secura, after the former crash landed their cruiser on Maridun
After receiving word on Jedi Knight Aayla Secura's attack in the skies of Quell, Skywalker, Tano, Rex and members of the 501st Legion left onboard the Resolute to aid Secura and her fleet. The Resolute exited hyperspace above Secura and Confederate forces. While Admiral Yularen remained in the star destroyer, Skywalker, Tano, Rex and his troops boarded a heavily armed LAAT/i gunship and descended toward Secura's Venator-class Star Destroyer, Liberty. Their approach to the cruiser was cut short when a group of B2-RP battle droids attacked their gunship. Skywalker ordered Tano and Rex to stay on the gunship and take care of their adversary, while he Force jumped down on top of Liberty's hull to find Secura in the star destroyer. The battle droids, however, crippled Tano's gunship and forced it crash in the hull of the Liberty, although caused no injuries to Tano, Rex, and clone troopers.
The pair soon met up with Skywalker, Secura, and Clone Commander CC-5052, nicknamed "Bly." Skywalker ordered the group to head toward a Consular-class cruiser, that was docked in the lower hangar bay. The group made their way through hallways in the Liberty and, at Secura's discretion, descended to the lower hold of the star destroyer. Tano stood by her master, Secura, Rex, and Bly as they approached the lower hangar bay. While the docking extension was activated to connect to the cruiser, an explosion erupted and started a fiery inferno, which stormed toward a nearby corridor where the Jedi and clones where at. When they tried to shut a blast door to hold the fire, Skywalker noticed it won't hold, and Force pushed Tano, Secura, Rex, and Bly to safety, while he held the blast door via the Force.
However, the blast door buckled and blasted debris toward Skywalker, injuring him. Unwilling to leave her master behind, Tano ordered the cruiser's pilots to hold their position via comlink. Tano tried to open the blast door open, though only budged enough for her to catch sight of the injured Skywalker. The Padawan used her lightsaber to cut a hole through the blast door and entered the room to retrieve her injured master. Secura helped Tano with pulling Skywalker to safety, and helped him enter the cruiser. Rex, Bly, and troopers Lucky, Cameron, Flash entered the cruiser, and joined the Jedi onboard. The cruiser detached from the crippling Liberty and headed toward the Resolute's hangar bay, but when a group of Vulture droids approached the cruiser and fired at it, the blaster fire rattled the cruiser, and caused one of the pilots to hit his head on the controls, inadvertently activating the cruiser's hyperdrive. While Bly was unable to shut off the hyperdrive, Secura warned Yularen of their situation, before the cruiser jumped into hyperspace within the atmosphere and gravity well of Quell.

Felucia and punishment
- "Masters, this incident is my responsibly. Because of Ahsoka's advanced abilities, I forgot how young she is. I gave her more freedom than I should have."
"That may be. But it doesn't excuse what happened on Felucia. I think she needs some time away from the battlefield." - ―Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu, discuss Ahsoka's punishment. Listen
As the war continued, Confederate forces—led by General Grievous—invaded the Outer Rim planet of Felucia.[44] High General Plo Koon, Obi-Wan Kenobi, General Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka, led an assault to counter the Separatist threat. The Republic forces engaged the Confederate Navy above the planet and began to break-up their advancement; however, waves of Vulture droids caused problems for the Republic group. Few clone trooper transports made it to the planet surface to aide Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. As battle droids continued to fire on the struggling clone troopers, General Koon cleared the skies of Vulture droids, inside his starfighter. Meanwhile, a Vulture droid fragment fell from the sky and landed on one of the Republic's AT-TE walkers. Seeing that the Republic forces had lost much of its reinforcements, Kenobi signaled for an immediate retreat; however, both Kenobi and Skywalker noticed that Ahsoka has been missing. Contacting her through his comlink, Ahsoka revealed that she has engaged another group of battle droids. The Jedi Master told her that the Republic forces are retreating and she needed to return, although the Togruta Padawan denied and told him that she has broke through the Separatists' defense. However, Skywalker and Kenobi landed their LAAT/i gunships infront of Tano's Juggernaut Turbo Tank, which caused her to shout at Skywalker is dismay. After Skywalker forced her to enter his gunship, she complied and entered it. As the Republic forces—onboard the LAAT/i gunships—lifted above the ground, the forces within them witnessed the destruction of Tano's Turbo Tank and its reinforcements.[45]
After leaving Felucia, the Republic forces returned to Coruscant. Inside the Jedi Temple council chamber, Skywalker and Tano stood before Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Yoda. Kenobi had gave the Council information on what the Padawan had done on Felucia. After, Windu informed the Padawan if she agrees with Kenobi's claims. Tano agreed, and told the Jedi Master that she is regretful of her actions and only was "caught in the moment." Skywalker defended his Padawan by taking the blame; however, Windu dismissed his claim. The Jedi Master then announced that Tano would take time off from the battlefield and become a Jedi Archives guard, under the assistance of Jedi Librarian Jocasta Nu. Skywalker and Tano soon left the council chamber and headed for the Archives room. Along the way, Tano reflected on her actions and forgave her master; however, Skywalker told her that he was once a struggling Jedi Padawan not too long ago. The Jedi Knight soon greeted Nu, who was near her desk outside the main Archives hall. Skywalker introduced Tano to Nu, and told the Jedi Librarian that Tano was to be her new guard officer.[45]
After leaving Skywalker, Nu took Tano on a tour around the archives room. After giving the Padawan the authority to guard the holocron room, Nu left Tano and departed back to her desk.[45] Upon recognizing a Jedi that she had meant in the past,[46] Tano greeted Jedi Master Ord Enisence. However, unbeknownst to her, a female Clawdite bounty hunter had taken the appearance of Enisence to infiltrate the Jedi Temple. Tano began to bother the seemly Jedi, asking if he needed help. Although, the bounty hunter, enraged, told the youngling to "leave him be," which caused Tano to feel unwanted. After the padawan walked away, the bounty hunter began to use a computer terminal, and secretly give Duros bounty hunter Cad Bane information about the Jedi Temple, via comlink. As Bane and his Techno-service droid, Todo 360, entered the Jedi Temple through a ventilation vent, Grand Master Yoda continued to feel the intruders through the Force, and soon placed the temple on high alert. While the ongoing events escalated, the elder Jedi Librarian told Tano to remain on guard, while she went to notify everyone that the temple was on high alert.[45]
Nu first went to Enisence, however, the bounty hunter punched Nu in the face, knocking her unconscious. Yoda contacted Tano, via comlink, and alerted her of the danger. Worried, Tano left her the Archives main room and confronted the the seemly Jedi, Enisence. Although, the bounty hunter, who changed her appearance from Enisence to Nu, engaged Tano in a brief lightsaber duel inside the Archives main room. The Padawan defeated the Clawdite, knocking her to the ground. Several Jedi—consisting of Mace Windu, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Aayla Secura, and Kit Fisto—arrived inside the Archives room. The group arrested the bounty hunter; however, noticed that a holocron was missing from the vault. Before the Jedi dismissed the captured bounty hunter, the latter revealed that Cad Bane was about to hunt Jedi Master Bolla Ropal to retrieve the Kyber memory crystal, a crystal that contained a list of potential Force-sensitive younglings throughout the galaxy. Fearing for the future of the Jedi Order, Skywalker suggested that he could rescue the Jedi Master with Tano, and Windu reluctantly agreed.[45]
Taking back the holocron
- "We don't have much time. Hurry it up Jedi, or she dies."
"No, Master! Don't do it!" - ―Cad Bane, contemplating on the death of Ahsoka.
After leaving Coruscant onboard the Venator-class Star Destroyer, Resolute, Tano joined Skywalker and a clone trooper on the bridge of the cruiser. Admiral Yularen joined the group, who told Skywalker that they have arrived near the navy forces of the ruthless bounty hunter, Cad Bane. Above the planet of Devaron, Republic Star Destroyers engaged Bane's Munificent-class Star Frigates. After witnessing the location of Bane's frigate, Skywalker and Tano joined Rex and his men on the Resolute's hangar bay. After Rex revealed that they had no transports to deliver the troops to Bane's frigate, Yularen joined the group and offered his help. Skywalker ordered the latter to activate a few AT-TE walkers that were near them; however, Yularen was not pleased in Skywalker's decision. Determined to use deactivated AT-TE walkers, Skywalker ignored the admiral's claim, and soon activated them with Tano.[47]

While both Skywalker and Tano were dressed in pressurized suits, the clone troopers soon climbed onboard the walkers, and were prepared to land on top of Bane's frigate. The Resolute's bottom release platform inside the hangar opened, letting the walked free fall in zero-gravity down to the Munificent-class Star Frigate. B1 battle droids engaged the group, although were defeated by the Republic force. Skywalker ordered his astromech droid, R2-D2, to open the main hatch, which allowed the group to enter the frigate. Upon entering, the group made their way into the bridge. After dispatching more battle droids, neither Ropal or Bane were found. The group soon departed he bridge and entered the detention level. Their search for Ropal soon ended when Tano found his corpse inside a torture room. Unbeknownst to them, Bane had access to the ship's functions through his wrist gauntlet, and soon turned off the lights throughout the frigate. The Republic force soon ventured through the ship, and soon R2-D2 spotted Bane running through a hallway. They caught up to the bounty hunter; however, the latter soon released his battle droid force at the Jedi and clones. Through his wrist gaunlet, the bounty hunter turned off the artificial gravity, which allowed Bane to have the advantage over the Jedi. Tano ordered R2 to reactivate the gravity, and the droid complied.[47]
The holocron, which was out of Bane's possession for a brief time after Skywalker kicked the bounty hunter, was recovered by the mercenary, and soon he fled the area. Not willing to let Bane escape, Tano offered to chase after him without Skywalker's approval. As Tano chased after Bane, Skywalker shouted that they'll take the bounty hunter together, although the Togruta Padawan ignored him. Luring the padawan to a dead-end corridor, Bane closed the blast door, which blocked Skywalker from helping Tano. Bane used his blaster pistol for fire at the Togruta Padawan; however, the latter deflected the shot, injuring Bane's right arm. Determined to kill the bounty hunter, Tano attacked him with her lightsaber, although Bane kicked it from the Padawan's grasp. Using his weapon again, Bane attempted to fire at the weaponless Tano, but with a quick grab to Bane's left arm, Tano elbowed Bane and flipped him to the ground. Not impressed with the bounty hunter's ability to fight without his weapons, Tano tried to telekinetically retrieve her fallen lightsaber, although Bane tricked the Padawan. Bane reached and grabbed Tano's ankle and activated a paralyzing electric shock, which rendered the Padawan unconscious.[47]
The bounty hunter placed his Jedi hostage in stun cuffs, and began to deject the Padawan. Pulling one of her silka bead Padawan braids, Bane attached it to his belt as a trophy. Tano, who was still "not impressed," reminded Bane that her master, Skywalker, would rescue her. Sensing Skywalker and Tano's strong bond, Bane activated the stun cuff's electric shock through his wrist gauntlet, as a way to increase Skywalker's struggle to rescue his Padawan. A B1 battle droid contacted Bane via comlink, and alerted Bane that an angry Jedi was approaching. Bane activated a ray shield to block Tano from escaping, which proved successful when Tano attempted to run at the ray shield and failed. Skywalker entered the room, and soon was greeted by Bane. Seeing his Padawan in grave danger, Skywalker began to be hasty to the bounty hunter; however, Bane told the Jedi Knight that if he pressed a button on his gauntlet, Tano would be sucked out of an airlock. The mercenary gave Skywalker the choice of sacrificing his Padawan, and kill him, or open the holocron. Tano feared for her life, and began to shout at Skywalker. Not willing to let his Padawan die, Skywalker chose to open the holocron for the bounty hunter.[47]

Using the Force, Skywalker opened the holocron, and Bane placed the stolen Kyber memory crystal within. Enraged, Skywalker telekinetically retrieved both his lightsaber and Tano's. Making quick work of Bane's two B2 super battle droid bodyguards, Skywalker noticed that Bane had opened the airlock, which threatened Tano's life. Skywalker Force pushed a fragment of the droid at the ray shield control and saved Tano, although Bane had escaped the room with the holocron. Both Jedi exited the room, and began to chase after the mercenary, in retaliation. Tano, who was hurt by Bane's torture methods, demanded Skywalker to not chase after Bane, and instead return to Rex and the clones, who were waiting for the Jedi in the frigate's hangar bay. Acknowledging her claim, both soon entered the hangar bay. Noticing that Rex and his men had secured an Sheathipede-class transport shuttle, both ran toward it. Above in the upper-deck level of the hangar, clone troopers Denal and Koho engaged Bane in a brief duel, which cost the lives of both clones. Disguising himself as Denal, Bane entered Skywalker's getaway ship and remanded hidden within the clone trooper armor. Tano, who believed that Bane had died, wanted to retrieve the seemly fallen holocron; however, Skywalker told her that their wasn't any time to do so, because the frigate was tearing itself apart.[47]
Returning to the Resolute, Skywalker told Tano that he felt Bane's presence through the Force, although he had seen the bounty hunter fall to his death inside the frigate's hangar bay. Tano asked for her master's forgiveness; allowing herself to take the blame, due to her actions. Although, Skywalker insisted that the mission's failure was his fault from "start to finish."[47]

Behind the scenes
Ahsoka Tano is voiced by Ashley Eckstein in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film and 2008 television series. The film serves as the introduction to the animated series on Cartoon Network. Ahsoka Tano is one of the main protagonists throughout both the film and the series, along with Skywalker and Kenobi.[10][48]

Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni and writer Henry Gilroy initially had the idea for a female character for the series, and the idea was ultimately approved by creator/executive producer George Lucas.[49] Lucas first publicly mentioned the character during his appearance at the Museum of Television and Radio's PALEY Festival in April 2007.[50] StarWars.com later formally introduced the character as part of one of its daily updates.[7] According to Lucas, the character was eleven years old when The Clone Wars series begins.[51] However, the StarWars.com Databank, The Clone Wars Visual Guide, and the novel say she was fourteen by the time she was chosen as Anakin Skywalker's Padawan.[6]
Ahsoka appears to utilize the lightsaber combat form of Shien, which involves holding the lightsaber with a reversed grip. Anakin will attempt to break her of this habit in the series and teach her to use Form V with a standard grip. She will however still use Shien in a pinch.[52]
Ahsoka wears an akul-tooth headdress, which could only be worn by Togrutas who had single-handedly killed one of the fierce akul creatures: an impressive feat for one so young.
Dave Filoni had originally named Ahsoka Ashla, presumably meant to reference the character of the same name seen in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.[source?]

The game's Prima Guide uses Windu and Skywalker, but they are not necessarily the canonical choice.
