- "The first day of combat for the 501st was nothing like I thought it would be. We've been training for years, bred for the sole purpose of fighting and winning this war. But nothing can prepare you for the reality of combat. The destruction. The chaos. They say the 501st got the best of this war. We also got the worst. And it's only just begun."
- ―The retired clone trooper
The retired clone trooper was a member of the 501st Legion, an elite division of clone troopers.

Training on Kamino
Edit
- "All that breeding, all those years of training, it doesn't really prepare you for the all the screaming or the blood, does it?"
- ―The retired clone trooper
One of the many clones of the renowned Human bounty hunter Jango Fett, a clone trooper was born around[1][2] 32 BBY[3] on the planet Kamino. Bred to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic by Kaminoan cloners, he grew up in [1] Tipoca City,[2] the capital city of Kamino.[4] During the years, the clone underwent military training, which included various simulations which mimicked real life battlefields.[1] In 22 BBY,[5] the clone army was introduced by Supreme Chancelor Palpatine of the Galactic Republic, to counter the threat of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a separatist movement seeking to replace the Republic as the ruling government of the galaxy.[6] The clone trooper was a member of the 501st Legion, one of the many clone divisions sent to the planet Geonosis to engage the Separatist Droid Army in the battle which would mark the beginning of the Clone Wars.[1]
Baptism of fire
Edit
- "Incredibly, the 501st survived the crucible of Geonosis, emerging battle-hardened and ready for whatever the war would throw at us."
- ―The retired clone trooper
The legion arrived in Geonosis, where they received their first mission by their clone officer; to secure the Checkpoint Alpha near a downed Techno Union ship. When the legion's members arrived in the chekpoint, they spotted three B2 super battle droid scouts, which the clones swiftly destroyed with their laser weaponry. The clones then finished off a damaged IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tank with thermal detonators. However, the CIS dispatched hordes of battle droids to the chekpoint, and the 501st quickly captured and fortified the Techno Union ship to serve as an outpost against the droid attack. The legion held their position, but were soon approached by a column of OG-9 homing spider droids. In retaliation, the Republic sent an AT-TE walker to eliminate the spider droids before they could annihilate the 501st's positions. As the battle lengthened, the 501st utilized many different variants of troopers, from snipers to jet troopers, who helped the legion to gain control of more areas in the battlefield. After the clones had captured a cliff bunker, lightsaber-armed Jedi Master Mace Windu arrived to aid them to capture the Northern CIS bunker, which was soon at the hands of the Republic.[1]
The clone trooper felt that the battle was far more chaotic than anything his trainig had included. The heat and the sandy terrain of Geonosis made the battle hard to withstand, and the clone trooper would remember the screams of his fatally wounded comrades for a long time. He was amazed when the 501st finally emerged victorious,[1] the outgunned droid army retreating from the planet. While the battle was won by the Republic, most of the Confederate forces and their leadership were albe to evacuate, ensuring that the Clone Wars would not end soon.[6]
