[edit] Kwenn's Story
Yeah, a bit of fanon here, inspired by Underworld: A Galaxy of Scum and Villainy. More to come.
[edit] THE KID
Iroquois Frak, interview held at the Rimmer's Rest, Nar Shaddaa
"Shee, I recall that day well. Lost five men during the raid out near Tyne's Horky; the Brocklander was jumped in the Istic system by a junked-out Hutt caravel and a couple of MandalMotors escort fighters—bunch of them new M3-type jobs. Anyway, we had to hop blind, ended up out in the Kwenn system. Lucky for us, one of our tails smashed right into the system's primary, and the rest must've given up.
So, we're sitting dead in space, trying to raise the outpost on the comm, when all of a sudden, our scopes light up. Captain calls battle stations, we're rushing all over, and it turns out to be a civ freighter in bad shape: my guess is our Hutt friends caught them in the primary's grav well. We dock with the ship, but there's not much aboard 'cept shadows and echoes…and the kid, of course.
This kid, he must've seen some real horrorshow brawl on that ship, judging by the state we found. Wouldn't stop shaking til we jumped for the outlands, and even then he wouldn't talk. Sith knows what his name was; we just called him Kwenn, cuz we're imaginative like that, see?
We make it back to outpost, me having talked Captain out of dropping the kid off on the nearest hunk of rock we found. He sorta became my charge, you know? Well, having a kid trailing after a privateer like me don't plot too well, so he wasn't going to stay for good. Still, he was a good kid, I'll give him that. Quiet as a Polis Massan, though.
Lil' Kwenn was with us 'bout two standard, or thereabouts, helping out with whatever a kid can do in a gang like ours. We ran into a couple looking to adopt a Human kid over on Berchest, and Captain being Captain made a deal straight off. Last time I saw the kid, and wasn't long after I ditched the crew for the Freedom's Sons. Hey, you know where he is now?
Ah.
Ah, never mind. Well, it’s a big galaxy, so they say.

- "The Jedi teach us that we are luminous beings, creatures of light. That light shines most brightly in those bound together in love, forever without end."
- ―From Star Wars: Union #4
Ahoy hoy, Wikipedians! First things first: I'm Kwenn, and I contribute to the Star Wars Wiki whenever I can. I'm particuarly interested in this side of Star Wars fandom. I'm currently working on Star Wars: Scene by Scene, a mini-wiki which attempts to provide a blow-by-blow account of all six films of the saga, complete with screenshots, trivia, in-universe data and other relevant, interesting and downright geeky factoids.
I have been a fan of Star Wars since I was a Youngling; ever since I watched my friend's VHS copy of A New Hope. I have few memories of my first viewing of the Original Trilogy, though I quickly became a big fan. I saw all three Special Editions at the cinema in 1997, and the three Prequels on their opening nights in 1999, 2002 and 2005 respectively.
Star Wars, for me, is at its core a tale of good versus evil; I'm not a big fan of the darker, grittier side of the Saga exemplified in the New Jedi Order series—for, despite its darkness, Episode III is very much a true Star Wars movie, with the same familiar feel and themes as the originals. That's partly why I'm a big fan of Star Wars: Legacy, though that's actually due simply to the awesome work of John and Jan, long may they reign. I'm also eagerly awaiting the live-action TV series, in whatever incarnation it takes.
[edit] My Favourite-ness
- "I shall do what I must, Obi-Wan"
- ―Qui-Gon Jinn, The Phantom Menace
The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the bunch, although the last acts of Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi are just as great. Empire is consistently awesome, though, something which no other Star Wars film manages, for me. Sith is let down by some very shoddy CG, editing and last-minute reworkings; Jedi is, well, "the Ewok film"; A New Hope is, dare I say it, quite boring until we meet Han Solo; and poor old Clones suffers from some of the worst scenes in the Saga. That just leaves Phantom Menace, which is perhaps third on my list of favourites. No, it's not a bad film, and it certainly doesn't deserve the bad press it received. By now, Episode I has become something like what Episode IV is to a certain generation; it's my childhood Star Wars film, the first new installment I saw at the cinema. There's a certain innocence and magic about it that is sadly lost - both by dint of story and execution - with the next two episodes.
In the Expanded Universe, unlimited kudos goes to Matthew Stover for his novelization of Episode III, which lives up to the promise the film itself failed to deliver. This is the truly epic story, with Sith having lost its way in post-production. And, rushed ending aside, it's got to be one of the best EU novels out there. The Legacy of the Force series is also doing well, and is managing to heal the wound of the New Jedi Order series. In terms of graphic novels, Star Wars: Legacy is currently at the top of the pile, but I'm also enjoying Knights of the Old Republic. On the games front, I'm still playing Star Wars Battlefront II, but have given up completely on poor Empire at War.
That square of my fandom given up to non-Star Wars sci-fi is currently dominated by Doctor Who. Although I never watched any of the earlier installments bar the 1996 TV movie, the new series are easily the best things on TV at the moment - so much so, I think I've developed a bit of a man-crush on David Tennant ;). Here's hoping those rumours are false and he'll continue playing the Doctor for at least two more series.
