Biography
Edit
Early life
Edit
Xanatos, the son of Crion, was born on Telos in 71 BBY.[source?] He was discovered as a young child by Qui-Gon Jinn to be Force-sensitive. Jinn, after some hesitation, took Xanatos to the Jedi Temple to be trained to become a Jedi. Xanatos was a good student who picked up skills quickly and enjoyed learning. When Xanatos was ready, Jinn took him as his Padawan.[1]
Mission to Telos
Edit
In 53 BBY,[4] after years of training, Jinn felt that Xanatos was ready for the Jedi Trials, but Yoda decided on one more test. He sent the two Jedi back to Telos to oversee the renegotiation of a treaty between Telos and a neighboring planet. When they arrived, Xanatos saw that his father had become the ruler of the planet and an extremely wealthy man. Crion revealed to his son that the renegotiation was a ruse and that he really wanted to engage in war with the other planet, and he urged Xanatos to ally with him. Xanatos had a choice: stand by his Jedi training and refuse, or give in to his greed and join his father. Jinn saw that this represented his apprentice's final test; he stood back and let Xanatos make his own decision.[1]
Xanatos decided that the Jedi had taken away what truly belonged to him, and developed a hatred for not only the Jedi Order, but specifically his master.[5] Joining his father, he sabotaged the first renegotiation meeting in an attempt to inflame the citizens of Telos. However, when Jinn informed the Telosian population, they rebelled against Crion. Xanatos urged his father to respond in kind; hiring an army to fight back with, and with Xanatos leading the army, they started a civil war.[1]
When Jinn was forced to kill Crion in the final battle in front of Xanatos, Jinn's lightsaber sliced through the ring on Crion's finger. Xanatos picked the ring up, ignoring the extreme heat, and pressed it to his face, leaving a scar. After telling Jinn that the scar would remind him of what the Jedi had done to him forever, he drew his lightsaber and attacked his former master. After a long duel, Jinn disarmed his ex-apprentice, but refused to deliver the killing blow. Xanatos ran away, stealing a transport to escape into space, as well as the Telosian treasury, having turned to the dark side of the Force.[1]

Edit
At some point over the next nine years, Xanatos became the head of Offworld Mining Corporation, amassing many riches.[3] Much of the money was put back into Telos, where Xanatos funded the Xanatos Institute for Healing, among other things.[2]
