Remus Black was a Force-sensitive officer in the Imperial Starfleet, later the Imperial Remnant and then in the new Galactic Empire in 130 ABY.
As a Force-sensitive officer in the Imperial Starfleet, Black was well-versed in the use of Battle Meditation and he was also a “student” and a loyal subordinate of the Chiss Mitth'raw'nuruodo otherwise know as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

[edit] Early Life
Little is known about Remus Black's early years. Some believe he wanted it this way. He was born on Eriadu in 47 BBY to a less than loving family. The names of his parents are unknown but his mother, who apparently was Force-sensitive, died in child birth and he was brought up by his father. His father was a fairly wealthy man as he was an aide to the family of future Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, but he was a cruel man. He regularly beat his son bringing him within an inch of his life on more than one occasion. He eventually grew tired of the brutality and it is said that he inadvertently discovered his Force abilities when at the age of thirteen, in a pure fit of rage, he Force choked his father to the point where not only did he cease breathing but his whole neck cracked and caved in.
After he killed his father it was his father's employers, the Tarkin family, who took Black in and raised him. In comparison to the treatment he'd received from his father, living under the Tarkins' strict rules was almost bearable. He continued in the service of the Tarkin family for the remainder of his teenage years.

When he was eighteen, Black entered into the Raithal Academy. Upon graduation, Black began service in the Judicial Starfleet distinguishing himself as a brilliant officer and swiftly rose through the ranks. In his spare time he could regularly be found studying about the Jedi and their counterparts the Sith and there beliefs, no one knew the truth as to why he did this though. He personally preferred the ways of the Sith to that of the Jedi. He did vast amounts of research and experiments with the Force and his ability to control it. He essentially used the data he had researched as his teacher and taught himself, so his abilities were more or less unrefined but, for a self taught Force user his level of control was astonishing.
At the outset of the Clone Wars, Black was twenty-seven, he was a Commander and the first officer onboard the Acclamator-class assault ship Xerxes. As the executive officer of the Xerxes he participated in many battles including the Battle of Muunilinst, in which the Republic Fleet under Padawan Commander Anakin Skywalker engaged Seperatist gun platforms high above Muunilinst. Despite Blacks objections the Xerxes’ captain decided to exchange full broadsides with one of the gun platforms. Though the Xerxes, with the help of several other Acclamators, destroyed the gun platform the ship suffered heavy damage and casualties including the captain himself. Black assumed command for the remainder of the battle and helped lead the fleet to victory.
Black earned great recognition for his role at the battle of Muunilinst and he was officially promoted to captain of the Xerxes. His command of the Xerxes was short-lived however because shortly afterward he was reassigned to the Acclamtor-class ship Bolide. Under his command the Bolide was one of if not the best assault ships in the fleet, most disciplined crew, finest officers, and one of the finest captains in the fleet. Its is suspected that the discipline of his crew is due to his study of ways to use the Force for the good of the military, which includes Battle Meditation.
[edit] Battle of Duro
It was during this battle when Remus Blacks career almost came to a screeching halt. In 20 BBY Black’s ship the Bolide was a part of the fleet tasked with Duro’s defense. His ship along with six other Acclamators, three Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers, and a Victory-class Star Destroyer made up the whole of the defense fleet.
At 0221 Duro time, the Separatists under General Grievous had broken through Duro’s outer system defenses. They succeeded in destroying four of the Golan Arms battle platforms, and three of the Acclamator-class ships, including the Bolide. Though Black managed to escape the ships destruction a good portion of his crew had been killed alonf with the Bolide. A good portion of the defense fleet had also been destroyed.
The space city, Jyvus, had surrendered to the Confederate Navy. At the same time the Duro Chief Representative Officer Hoolidan Keggle went missing. It was reported that he had returned to the planets surface. This disgusted Black. He couldn’t understand why he would abandon his post during a battle, even though a losing one.
To counter the Confederate fleet, upon Blacks suggestion, the Republic sent a squadron of Jedi starfighters and two wings of V-19 Torrent starfighters. But the Confederate forces crushed the Republic fighter counter-attack and succeeded in destroying another three Acclamators. By this time all hope of reinforcements had been lost as the Separatists had cut the Republic forces off making it impossible for them to be reinforced. Eventually, after a long bombardment from the Separatist fleet, Keggle signed a formal surrender.
[edit] Clone Wars: Later Years
Remus continued in the service of the Galactic Republic for the remainder of the Clone Wars. He eventually became the captain of the Venator-class Star Destroyer Guarlara and fought in many battles including the First Battle of Cato Neimoidia in which his Guarlara and two other Venators under Jan Dodonna. They engaged a Trade Federation armada and provided air support to Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker as they commenced a ground assault on the stronghold of the Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray.
During the Second Battle of Coruscant it was Blacks ship the Guarlara that, alone, engaged the Separatist flagship the Invisible Hand. The two ships exchanged broadsides at point-blank range. Despite heavy damage to the Guarlara, it sent the Invisible Hand plummeting towards the planets surface. Black and his crew would earn great acclaim for single-handedly taking down the infamous Separatist flagship despite endangering the Supreme Chancellor’s life in the process.
