Articles on fan projects, such as websites, fan clubs, fan activities, fan films, or fan fiction are allowed on Wookieepedia so long as they are sufficiently notable. Articles on non-notable fan projects will be deleted, either immediately or after being tagged with the {{Notability}} template for seven days.

[edit] Requirements

In order to show notability, an article on a fan project or activity must pass at least one of the "recognition" requirements as well as the "content" requirement.

  1. Official recognition: A fan project which has received official recognition by Lucasfilm Ltd. or its licensees may be a suitable subject for an article.
The Pink Five fan films have been recognized at The Official Star Wars Fan Film Awards, and have been referred to in the novel Allegiance.
  2. Mainstream recognition: A fan project which has received at least national coverage in mainstream media can have its article kept, even if it has had no official recognition, or fails to pass any criteria based on the guidelines below.
The unlicensed novel Another Hope was a short-lived phenomenon, but it made it to National Public Radio.
  3. Fan recognition: A fan project which has not been mentioned in mainstream media or recognized by official sources may still be notable if it has widespread recognition within the Star Wars fan community.
This is the hardest form of recognition to substantiate. Most fan activities with substantial fan recognition will have some official or mainstream recognition.
  4. Content: A website should have substantial content. A fan project must be non-trivial (i.e. a completed fan film, a large-scale video game mod, etc.)
Due to the ease of setting up message boards on the web, and the multitude of message boards with very few members, a website must have substantial content beyond the message board to be considered notable.
"Guilds" or "teams" for cooperative video gaming, or web sites for online roleplaying, are not notable in themselves. If these groups have notable real-world activities beyond their gaming, or host a website with substantial content, they are more likely to be considered significant.

[edit] Number of articles

Fan projects get one and only one article.

  1. Merging: If an article on a fan website can be merged with another article, it should.
For instance, an author or notable fan's personal blogs could simply be discussed in a section of her article or listed in external links. Club Jade, for example, would not go in the article for its main operator and contributor, because it's more than just her personal blog. (It's also a small fan club, a fan fiction archive, etc.) Her SW.com blog, though, would be kept as an external link.
Websites as big as TheForce.Net can have more than one article: not so much because they are more important, but because the Jedi Council Forums, the Star Wars Technical Commentaries, and some of the other projects it hosts would be obviously notable even if hosted on their own website.
  2. Webmasters: If a person is recognized purely for creating and/or maintaining a Star Wars fan site, he or she is not considered notable enough to warrant his own article.
  3. List of fan sites is a place for any website that doesn't qualify for a full article, but does qualify as a genuine fan site.
