[edit] Intro

I’m Danny and this is my user page. I’m not going to do a gigantic biography of myself like I did at Wikipedia. But you can see that there. But I will tell you how I got into Star Wars. I remember even as a little kid having seen the movies and reenacting parts of them, for instance being Han Solo and jumping down the garbage chute. Why exactly that appealed to a four-year-old sense of adventure, I have no idea. But when I really started to get hooked was when I got Young Jedi Knights: The Emperor’s Plague for Christmas when I was in the fifth grade. I finished that and then other ten books of the series that were out at the time, just in time for the final trilogy of that series to be released. That was when I started watching the movies again, and all the time. And by then I was in the seventh grade and moved right along to Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy and through almost every EU novel that’s been written.

[edit] Star Wars stuff I love

I’m a huge fan of Yoda, R2-D2, Zekk, Corran Horn, Jaina Solo, Jacen Solo (even though now he’s actually turning into the prick everyone said he was during the Yuuzhan Vong war), Mara Jade, Thrawn, Pellaeon, Wookiees and Barabels in general, TIE starfighters in most of their incarnations, Night Caller, Wraith Squadron in general and lightwhips.

Best Star Wars books ever:

[edit] Wookieepedia

I was actually totally opposed to Wookieepedia’s existence at first. I thought it was going to be a cheap knockoff of the wikipedia articles on star wars, that it would never fill up fast enough, be full of vandalism and lazy Star Wars nerds who just couldn’t handle the high level of professionalism demanded (although not actually present) at Wikipedia. I was doing my best to make major character articles out of the minor character list. A few months later, having discovered many of my edits reverted because someone had a different definition of "notable" than me, and noticing that Wookieepedia had become friggin' amazing, I made myself a user account over here and joined the fun.

[edit] Pet projects

Everybody has a few things they do all the time and a few things that absolutely drive them crazy and cause them to make massive amounts of minor edits and probably cause the recent changes patrol to hate them for spamming it. These are mine:

  1. Un-orphan-ing articles: If it's useful enough to exist on this wiki, it ought to be accessible from other articles.
  2. Including {{Eras}}: I just hate it when an article even has an infobox which states the era and no little box at the top. Just a pet peeve.
  3. Including {{1st}} and {{1stm}}:I like to know this, and it seems incomplete when they are not included.
  4. Correcting plurals: I hate it when people use words like millennia and ysalamiri improperly. If the word has two forms and one of them ends in "a" or "i", that one is plural.
  5. Removing contractions:I had several English teachers with this pet peeve in junior high and high school, so it wore off on me. Contractions exist because of vernacular and are improper in an encyclopedic entry unless they are part of a direct quote.
  6. Great typo hunt: Everyone should do this periodically. The ones that have been stricken do come back every once in a while.

[edit] Images I've Uploaded

My Gallery of uploaded images was deleted by the management. But I liked it, and because of a fair use rationale used somewhere on this site (use your wits to figure out where) for this image, I figure I can link to the historical page from here.

Otherwise, the following images have been uploaded by yours truly:

My very first two contributions to this wiki, back in April 2005 and June 2006 respectively have been deleted, but were also images. And the preceding link is my record that, yes, I have been a Wookieepedian for that long.

[edit] Miscellanea created

[edit] Other stuff of note

  • I revived the Jacen Solo and Jaina Solo articles on Wikipedia from redirects to the minor character page into full-fledged articles, and uploaded the images that are still used today for their character boxes. Although there were some edit wars and deleted images over there, these two articles became the basis of the articles that exist for them now on Wookieepedia, so I’m pretty proud of that.
  • I pretty much single-handedly populated Category:Separatist-aligned planets. It had 19 articles when I started and 91 when I finished.

[edit] Principles

I’m an inclusionist. I think lots of stubs are better than ridiculous amounts of barely-related data in a single long list. I like to ask questions to get missing information before getting rid of other possibly useful information that someone probably worked hard on. Just because something is unsourced or uncited or unwookieefied doesn’t mean it should be removed. It should be fixed.

[edit] To-Do

To-do list for User:Wildyoda: edit · history · watch · refresh

Here are some tasks you can do:

[edit] Things I Hate

  • The Star Wars Technical Commentaries. I love details, but coming up with a conjectural rank system with the colored squares and code cylinders does more to take the magic out of the whole thing than it does to give us any information we actually care about. And for God sakes, the head of the Alliance military called it a Super Star Destroyer, not a stupid Star Dreadnought.
  • Dark Images. If we can't see the image, why bother putting it up here? I do love fixing problems though, and irfanview.exe is a lovely help with changing contrast and saturation, among other things.
  • Overuse of first names. Okay, so the EU gave more depth to Tarkin and Needa, among others, by giving them first names. Do we have to include their ENTIRE name every time we mention them though? Throwing it in there once in an article is cool and all, but I think "Moff" and "Commander" differentiate them enough after like the sixth time.
  • This article. There is way too much speculation in this, but I leave it alone simply not to take any flak. Han Solo was a pirate when we first saw him and he became a New Republic General and the husband of the Chief of State. People change. And of course Luke thought Thrawn was involved. He was... it was just 50 years before and a statement thrown in by the author for dramatic effect since the prequel had not been published yet. Something to make you wonder. And besides, Thrawn probably left a lasting impact of Formbi. Get over it.
  • Incorrect sources. Cakhmaim, Jak Bremen, Fein, Billey, Kern's Pride, Trogan system, New Cov Biomolecule Company, Super Star Destroyer, Noghri Commando Shuttle, Mazzic, Personal Luxury Yacht 3000, Ukio, Coruscant Sector, Anthos Sector, Lady Luck, Laser cannon, Immobilizer 418 cruiser, and Poderis are just a few of the articles in which I had to correct mentions or appearances from the Thrawn Trilogy during my revamp of Thrawn Trilogy mentions. Some of them had appearances that just simply didn't exist (I did a search on the complete text files of the books on my computer to be accurate) or only listed The entire trilogy as an appearance- I want to know EXACTLY which book they first showed up in, and if they were only mentioned in one or two of the books and not the whole thing. "The Thrawn Trilogy" as an appearance doesn't tell you that. GAH!

[edit] Aliases

You can catch me at Wikipedia also as User:Wildyoda. At forums.starwars.com I’m Jedi Knight Danny. Sometimes I forget to sign in when I’m contributing from work, but usually my edits aren’t important enough for me to bother listing I.P. addresses I have contributed under.

More to come.
