Upload form
Edit
Hi, i really like the upload form that the Wookiepedia uses. I would like to implement it on my wiki.
I've found this page, MediaWiki:Upload.js which seems important. Seeing as you created it, you seem like the person to speak to about it.
What other MediaWiki pages will I need for my Wiki for this to work?
Thanks -Thomas Love
[talk] 18:24, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
- Copy it from MediaWiki:Common.js instead. From "Start upload form customisations" to "End upload form customisations" and then add the following to a function that gets called on load to run it:
if ( wgCanonicalSpecialPageName === 'Upload' ) {
setupUploadForm();
}
The whole thing is set up to feed what you enter into {{Information}} so you'll need that too. You'll need to modify the JS if you want different fields to the ones we use. Green Tentacle (Talk) 12:11, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
- Okay thanks, i'm still struggling though. I already have the information template, but it's called image information on my Wiki. So I changed all the references to information in the js.
- I'm still not sure where...
if ( wgCanonicalSpecialPageName === 'Upload' ) {
setupUploadForm();
}
goes.
The Wiki i'm trying to edit is jackass.wiki.com. Maybe you could take a look! I'm only just starting to understand CSS and java. Thanks again -Thomas Love
[talk] 14:37, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
addOnloadHook(function() {
if ( wgCanonicalSpecialPageName === 'Upload' ) {
setupUploadForm();
}
});
Try that. Green Tentacle (Talk) 14:57, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
Where do I add it? Thanks -Thomas Love
[talk] 15:27, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
- Replace the
if ( wgCanonicalSpecialPageName === 'Upload' )… bit in Common.js. Green Tentacle (Talk) 15:47, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
- That still doesn't seem to be working. I'm sorry to keep bothering you. If I make you an admin on Jackass Wiki for a bit could you have a fiddle? If it's not too much trouble :) thanks -Thomas Love

Tyr Taskeen or Duron Veertag?
Edit

Heya Tent. I see you've uploaded this image as Tyr Taskeen. Are you sure it's him and not Duron Veertag? I only ask because of his positional relation to C-3PO (in the Insider image, Taskeen is to viewer left of 3PO, Veertag to viewer right), and because our Netherlander compatriots (specifically Sompeetalay, who in the past has been pretty meticulous about film character identification) have this guy as Veertag. jSarek 01:53, May 13, 2012 (UTC)
- I've watched that scene about 20 times now but the extras have an annoying habit of moving positions between shots. Almost as if they never anticipated anybody trying to identify them! It's not helped by Rogues Gallery using a slightly different angle to what we see in the film either. If you look at the last shot on the image to the right (from the DVD not Blu-ray), where everybody is in the same position as in Rogues Gallery, Taskeen (3) can just be seen behind 3PO and Veertag (6) is obscured by Luke. Just before that (second shot down), you can just make out Treblanc's (2) helmet behind Eso (1) and Taskeen/Veertag is stood next to Treblanc. The last time we saw 3PO (top shot), Treblanc's helmet is poking in on the left and Taskeen/Veertag is stood slightly further forward, next to 3PO. This looks to me like he is the guy who ultimately ends up in Taskeen's position and we don't get a closeup of Veertag. The Rogues Gallery image also shows Taskeen with sideburns just like the Taskeen/Veertag guy. I could still be wrong but I'm pretty sure about this one. Green Tentacle (Talk) 15:12, May 13, 2012 (UTC)
- How could those extras not know they were going to try to be identified by overzealous movie fans over three decades in the future? What an incredible lack of foresight! :-p Okay, that analysis is good enough for me (even if I think the Taskeen guy really looks the part for Veertag; I wonder if Chee thought the same thing but got lost in the Fidgety Rebel Shuffle). I'll point it out to Somp, so he can either fix their article or swoop in with some stunning counter-analysis that will forever change the way we look at antsy extras. jSarek 18:29, May 13, 2012 (UTC)
- Hi guys. Identifying Taskeen and Veertag in close-up/other pictures was a real pain. The picture that Leland has used was probably a promotional shot. I haven't been able to find a picture where you can see Veertag in close-up. I first switched the characters because the characters really look like eachother (could have been digitally replicated if the technology would have been available) and because Veertag's cap was a bit bended (like the guy's cap now identified as Taskeen). But Green Tentacle's course of action is indeed more logical, based on the previous position of 'Taskeen'. Both Taskeen and Veertag disappear in certain shots in the movie and find themselves situated behind other characters. --Sompeetalay 20:46, May 13, 2012 (UTC)

Hello, <insert name here>, this is Exiled Jedi, and I am here to tell you that barn-burner 4 has been extended into June. I've got a question about the great typohunt. I've searched the misspelled word abandonned with the search option and got 2400 results. I've read the first 25 articles but only found the word correctly spelled (abandoned), so I'm wondering if this means that it is spelled correctly in every article or should I read every one of them. - It's been like that since Wikia "improved" the search facility. Try doing a Google search for

Lego TIE Defender
Edit
Hey, GT - tried to reach you on IRC last night but had no joy. As you FAed TIE Defender, I just wanted to make you aware that the Lego model of the ship features a unique rotated cockpit that I don't believe is mentioned anywhere else in canon. Now, I know that the Lego canon integration issue is a little tricky, but the design of the model seems to go beyond pure playability issues and may represent a "new" feature for the Defender design or a variant. Since each model has to be approved by LFL, then I think it may be worth adding it to the article, or at least note it in the BTS. - Cavalier One

Request
Edit
Hey, GT. How're ya doing? I have a request for you...
Since we've now reached 100,000 articles, I'm planning on writing an article for Wookieepedia NewsNet reflecting on how we got this far by looking back at the earliest days of the Wook. To that end, I'm contacting as many of the oldest (unflattering term, I know. Sorry) Wookieepedians as possible and asking them to chime in.
This is (intentionally) a pretty broad question, but I'm wondering if you can tell me about your early experiences on the Wook and your impressions of what the site was like during its first couple years. Something longer than a soundbite but shorter than a short story, since I'm hoping to quote as many people as I can. Humor and wit are of course encouraged. If you're interested, go nuts, and if you're not, no worries. Thanks, and have a good day! Menkooroo (talk) 15:48, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Edit
Hey Green tentacle, as per your excellent recent edits to Guri's page, I've been looking at how to do just this for ages!!! Extremely frustrating when links refer to the archived page only to be redirected to the more current "this page doesn't exist" archived starwars.com pages. Is there anywhere here on the wook that instructs users how to do this correctly ie. redirect to the correctly dated archive? Rokkur Shen (talk) 03:32, February 7, 2013 (UTC)
- Not that I know of, but you do it like this:
- Get the URL of the original article by right-clicking and choosing the copy link option—"Copy Link Location" in Firefox, "Copy shortcut" in IE, "Copy link address" in Chrome.
- Go to http://archive.org and paste the URL into the Wayback Machine.
- Archive.org will show you a list of copies of that page that they have. The official site changed around November 2011, so try any from October 2011 and work your way back until you find one that works.
- Look at the URL in your browser's address bar and copy the long number from it (which will be something like "20100318124917"). Stick this in the "archivedate" parameter. This will work for {{Blog}}, {{DB}} and {{SWArchive}}. Green Tentacle (Talk) 20:41, February 7, 2013 (UTC)

FAN page reviewing
Edit
Hey, GT,
Per the discussion at the recent INQ meeting 55, I've just now gone and left personalized talk page messages to a whole whack of users, asking them to review more on the FAN page. I went for people who review a lot on the GAN page, people who nominate FANs but never review others' work, and more --- hopefully we'll be able to kick-start a reviewing revolution.
With that said, I believe I'd be remiss if I didn't extend the appeal to the Inquisitorius, as well. I'm not trying to single any one person out, and to emphasize that point, I'm leaving the exact same message on every INQ member's talk page rather than personalizing them like I did with the non-INQ mesages. Every INQ member save five, that is, and those five members have been reviewing FANs frequently enough that they don't need any sort of push like this. Everyone other than those five INQs, yourself included, has reviewed less than twelve FANs since the beginning of July. A few meetings ago, we agreed on eight FAN reviews per month as a good number for which to strive. I've now encouraged a large number of non-INQs to review more frequently, and the Inquisitorius as a whole should be actively participating in that revolution if not leading it. So, as an INQ, please review FANs more often. Cheers, and have a great day! Menkooroo (talk) 08:12, February 11, 2013 (UTC)
Image uploader
Edit
Hi, I was wondering how you managed to customise the file uploader here to prevent uploads without licenses. Is it just the code found in MediaWiki:Common.js? ~ CJC 19:00, March 3, 2013 (UTC)
- The stuff in Common.js rewrites the upload form with the fields we want and populates {{Information}} with them. There's another little bit in MediaWiki:Wikia.js to override the add image links and force them to go to Special:Upload. Green Tentacle (Talk) 21:21, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

- Sorry, forgot about this. There shouldn't be any other dependencies, you just need to make you call the setupUploadForm function when the page loads and it might take some cache clearing before it kicks in. Green Tentacle (Talk) 17:13, March 17, 2013 (UTC)

Inq reviewing tutorial
Edit
Hey GT. As per discussion at Inq Meeting 56, I've started to write a draft for what will eventually become the Inquisitorius' tutorial guide for new reviewers. It can be accessed here. I haven't had as much time as I would like to work on it recently, so there are still some sections that have yet to be written, but I've started off with trying out some basic organization with the current sections. Please feel free to jump in, either by writing new stuff for the guide or commenting on/adjusting what's already there.
Every current member of the Inq will eventually have to approve the guide in its entirety, so getting involved with its development would be great, sooner rather than later. The talk page can be used to discuss ideas about organization, sectioning, content, you name it. Let me know if you have any questions, and your contributions are appreciated!
