Finish translationsEdit

Those Finnish translations sound pretty crazy. We used to have those problems back on the day in Danish too, but now English has become such an integrated part of Danish society that very often, they leave words as they are in their English forms, though sometimes they still make some silly translations. Now, the Swedes are known for crazy translations like 'läderlappen' (not sure it's spelled correctly), but their translation of 'Revenge of the Sith' - 'Mörkets Hämn' almost sounds cooler than the English original. It's dartker. It's more evil. KEJ 12:42, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Oh how I wish they left the words in their English forms in Finland, too. What translation was this 'läderlappen', for if I'm not mistaken, it means 'bat'? --Gurbiza 12:51, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, it's for 'Batman', so I guess it's actually a good translation after all. It just sounds a bit silly in a Danish perspective, because the Danish word 'læderlap' means 'leather patch'. But if it means 'bat' in Swedish, then it's a perfectly fine translation. In Danish he's just called 'Batman'. I guess the translators thought that 'the flapping mouse man' sounded a bit silly ;-) KEJ 13:11, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
      • I see. :) In Finland it's mostly just Batman, too, except for in some old cartoons. --Gurbiza 13:14, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey ya, fellow Finn!Edit

Just dropped in to say hello, it's always nice to see other Finns here (actually, you're the second one I've encountered, except for myself of course). Great username btw. ;) --Tinwe 15:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi. It certainly is nice to see another Finn, there seems to be so little of us here, so far. Seeing others makes you feel you're not completely alone, after all. :) --Gurbiza 16:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Hey, I am born in USA, but I am Finnish like you! DARTH SIDIOUS2 08:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Finnish translations Edit

Actually, it is the translator's fault. In Finnish language, there EXISTS separate words for "Interceptor" (=torjuntahävittäjä), "Destroyer" (=hävittäjäalus), etc.

  • That's true, I admit, but it would still sound a bit awkward to use such long compounds ...in my opinion at least. :)
