The Approaching StormEdit

Hey. I've double checked the novel and it looks like Hurkaset and Vorian IV are the right names. Green Tentacle (Talk) 13:00, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Yes, you're right. I apologize, my mistake. Jedi Marty 15:03, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Sith Lord Edit

  • But whether the author says that it's Darth Maul or not doesn't change the fact that it is Darth Maul. Correct? Shouldn't we like, let it stay saying "Darth Maul" and be like, an indirect appearance? (That is what it's called, isn't it?) --The Wolfe22 23:25, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
    • Well, what the term indirect appearance mean? For me this term is somewhat confusing and hard to understand. You may be right and certainly it'll make things much easier, but I'd still like to know when is better to use indirect appearance tag and when redirect link.-- Jedi Marty 00:31, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Condensing appearances Edit

Please don't condense an article's appearances into a single link, such as a series of books. It helps an editor to see the entire list of all things that someone or something has appeared in. Thank you for your cooperation. Toprawa and Ralltiir 18:00, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Boba Fett: Hunted Edit

Alphabetizing on the last name basis is a bit harder and a little confusing if you ask me. I won't argue with that, but every writer that has a Dramatis Personae list, arranges them on behalf of their first name.

It is a lot more esthetic, you can find the desired character faster and you can easily see if a character is missing or no. What do you think?--Seth danny 00:32, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

RE:Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano in upcoming Clone Wars (TV series) Edit

Order 66Edit

Well, I don't have the book, but of course someone already does. I found the list on TFN message boards spoiler thread. I'm actually thinking about adding some minor appearances spoiler as well. Mauser 16:15, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

ReplyEdit

Could you show me what article you're talking about? Given that I've been here for two years, I think I know that. Still, it's very possible that I just made a mistake. Chack Jadson (Talk) 21:13, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Oh, I see what you mean. Generally, if something is just mentioned, it gets a "Sources" tag (if it provides only the barest of information in a brief mention). I certainly could have been mistaken there though. Chack Jadson (Talk) 22:33, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

RC-1207, Order 66 Novel. Edit

Hello Marty, you recently changed Sev's page to say that his charater was expanded in the Order 66 novel, have you read the book? he should be dead. Unless Traviss has resurrected him... I hate unbelievability ;-) — RC-1136 Hate Mail Here 12:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi RC-1136. I'm reading Order 66 now (I'm almost at the end of the book) and Sev's character was attacked (other members of Delta Squad hear that thru their comlinks). It's the same situation like in Republic Commando game at the end of the level during Mission to Kashyyyk when each of them had to shot down certain parts of big seps cruiser that blocked landing platform for Master Yoda's ship. However his faith after that is unknown and he is oficially MIA (missing in action) person now (not confirmed dead). If you're interested about his character, he's slightly more expanded in Order 66 Novel together with Delta Squad. And Traviss couldn't do anything about him, because his character is property of Lucasarts. Anyway here is the link from her blog, where she is talking more about Sev's character http://karentraviss.typepad.com/blog/2008/10/a-word-about-sev.html --Jedi Marty 02:12, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
    • ok, if he's not hugely expanded on then you may consider removing the note you left on sevs Behind hte scenes section mentioning that his character is exonaded on in Order 66, I won't do it myself as I haven't read the book. cheers — RC-1136 Hate Mail Here 15:49, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Order 66 edit conflictEdit

Page 415, the first page of Chapter 6: "So Palpatine has a new army. I have no doubt he'll find our cloning operations a threat one day very soon, and seek to destroy our capabilities. But he's a fool if he believes we handed over all the combat-trained Fett clones to him. ~Lama Su, Kaminoan prime minister, on discovring Palpatine's new Imperial Army." There's another reference to it later. Apparently Karen Traviss liked that battle a lot, all of the references to it are in her books.--1upD 22:00, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

  • That makes sense. It didn't directly mention the battle, but it was clearly forshadowing it.--1upD 22:40, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Republic shadow trooper vs. shadow stormtrooper Edit

Jedi Apprentice seriesEdit

Hi, Jedi Marty. I've noticed that you added the {{tense}} template to the articles regarding Jedi Apprentice series. May I inform you that articles about various media(books, comics, games, etc.) are Out Of Universe and their plot summaries should be in present tense. Cheers, QuiGonJinnAlways remember, your focus determines your reality.Qui-Gon negtc 15:23, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

"Appear, but not written" Edit

You keep adding this phrase to appearances on the Dejarik page. What is it supposed to mean? I've asked this on the talk page for that article, if you'd prefer to answer there. jSarek 07:44, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Talk pages are not forums Edit

We're all proud for you that you felt compelled to look up that factual error, but unfortunately talk pages are not forums. They are for discussion of specific matters relating to the article itself. Given that, your post was irrelevant to the topic at hand, and thus I have reverted it. Please avoid turning talk pages into forums in the future. Thank you. Inyri Forge Edit

Hi. Just want to inform you that Inyri Forge did impersonate someone. In X-Wing: Isard's Revenge, she along with the rest of the Rogues impersonated Requiem Squadron in order to infiltrate Krennel's empire. She was introduced as Inyon Fass.--ToRsO bOy 00:17, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

New Republic Provisional Council Edit

Voren Na'al

Voren Na'al addresses the Council.

You're welcome, Marty. This is the image from that sourcebook; its accompanying text specifies that the audience is only the Council, no other dignataries. A user known as Kuralyov, who I think is no longer active, first identified the Sedrian and I recently bumped into the source while researching for an article. I thought you could enjoy seeing the Council; you probably identify Mon Mothma, Tevv, Kerrithrarr, Ackbar, SoBilles and the Bothan, but Mr. Sedri and Mr. Ithor have not been named yet. --Skippy Farlstendoiro 15:45, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Clone of Ysanne Isard Edit

It's in the scene where the real Ysanne orders to take Paltr Carvin to Lusankya. She says: Take him to Lusankya. Also have them prep my clone for a new round of programming. As for the guide, the clone is mentioned in Ysanne Isard's entry (go figure). QuiGonJinn Senate seal(Talk) 17:29, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil - Appearances Edit

Hey Jedi Marty! Thanks for contacting me to avoid a conflict :) I'll go through your points, one by one: 1. "Lieutenant" is not part of Ulabore's name, so it does not go before his name in the character appearances section. However, it does go in the Organizations & Titles appearances section as a title in the organization of Gloom Walkers. (Please check the article page to see exactly what I mean). 2. The slavers appearance was my mistake. I'd forgotten that she actually saw them there, and thought they were only mentioned, so feel free to remove the {{Mo}} tag from it :). 3. As for the placing of "The Force," well, I've looked at a bunch of other articles, and some place it under "T," whereas others place it under "F." Since it doesn't look like we have any official site policy on the matter, you can go ahead and change that back if you like. 4. I still think hyperspace routes are locations, in the sence that they are places you can go. However, once again, I'd forgotten that Paradise was located on a route that branched off of the Corellian Trade Spine; that it wasn't actually on the Trade Spine. However, Paradise, as a stationary space station, is definitely a set location, not a vehicle or vessel. As for the Corellian Trade Spine, an alternative to keeping it in the locations section would be to move it to the weapons & technology section, as hyperspace routes were considered technology (i.e., we could add Hyperlane to the Weapons & Technology section, and then put Corellian Trade Spine beneath it as mentioned only). Tell me what you think about this, and thanks again for contacting me :). Jonjedigrandmaster (Jedi Beacon) 15:50, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your quick reply as well :) Regardless of whether or not it's a rank or title, "Lieutenant" is not part of Ulabore's name, so it cannot be put as such (That would be like putting "Jedi Grand Master" before "Yoda" in each of his appearances). Also, site policy is to use ranks as a title and list them under where their mention belongs in the mention in the source. In this case, the only mention of "lieutenant" in Dynasty of Evil is Ulabore, and that was as a rank in the Gloom Walkers; therefore, it goes under Gloom Walkers (For example, see the status article The Clone Wars: Shakedown. It lists "Admiral" under the Galactic Republic, because in the comic, the Admiral that appears is a member of the Galactic Republic. Even though the rank appears in other factions, that's where it belongs in the appearances section.) As for the placement of the Force, I think that it would be best to try and avoid making an extra subcategory, especially with the new appearances layout; but keeping it under "T" is no problem :) And one more important point: Another site policy is to not put aliases as separate characters. Aliases can be mentioned on the actual character's article, but they are not to be given articles of their own, or mentioned in appearances sections. Which brings me to one quick question, since I can't remember for sure myself. Was "Zun Haako" actually confirmed to be a separate being, or as far as we know is it just an alias used by Set Harth? Because unless it is confirmed to definitely be another being, then it needs to be removed from the Dynasty of Evil appearances, and just mentioned in Harth's article. Thanks again Marty, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too :)! Jonjedigrandmaster (Jedi Beacon) 00:30, December 28, 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey Marty, no problem, it can be hard to keep up with all the policies here :). As for the boar-wolf: once again, that was my bad. I had added the boar-wolf appearance from a later mention in the novel and completely forgotten about it's appearance on Paradise. Thanks for bringing that up; feel free to go ahead and remove the mentioned only tag, and keep up the good work! Jonjedigrandmaster (Jedi Beacon) 02:49, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

RE:Image Edit

Sorry. I didn't think the image was canon; the book Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter clearly states that she is a teenager with a yellow lightsaber, not a rather ugly adult with a green one. --Darth Praxus- Stover Lover 19:33, January 25, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Warning for vandalism? Edit

I have to apologize, but I don't seem to recall sending you a recent warning for vandalism, and your user talk page shows nothing of the sort, from me or anyone else. CC7567 (talk) 01:50, May 24, 2010 (UTC)

  • Apologies if I caused any confusion, but I believe that this is the warning you were talking about. It seems that that anon was impersonating me and dumping a warning that I had given them on your talk page. Hopefully that will clear up the matter; that warning was not directed at you. Kowakian in TFU2 Edit

Hey, Marty. Thanks for adding The Force Unleashed II (novel) to the appearances list for Kowakian monkey-lizard. Can you tell me in what capacity they appear, and in what chapter? I'd like to make sure the article is properly updated with any new info. Thanks! ~ SavageBob 23:32, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

  • Sure np :) I'm reading TFU II now and so far they appeared in Chapter 8 pg. 106 only as a customers on Malastare before Juno Eclipse found Berkelium Shyre "The Repairman". Don't know if that's important enough to be mentioned in article. Well, if they'll appear again later, I'll let you know.--Jedi Marty 23:47, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
    • Awesome, thanks! Where were they customer? At a cantina or something? ~ SavageBob 02:56, October 17, 2010 (UTC)
      • I'm sorry. Yesterday was too late for me and I was wrong, they weren't customers. These lizards were just there in the repair shop with blinking yellow and green pixels REPAIRS - NO QUESTIONS ASKED (it was 2 story green building), when Juno came. Excerpt: "Two Kowakian monkey-lizards, possibly a rare breeding pair, chased each other across the tops of shelves stuffed with dusty machine parts. Their squawking voices were loud in the claustrophobic space." That's about them so far.--Jedi Marty 15:21, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

This is for your tireless expansion of "Appearances" lists on articles about Star Wars novels. Thanks, and keep it up!

Wookieecookie
Menkooroo has awarded you a Wookiee Cookie!
You deserve two. Ensuring that novels have complete "Appearances" sections is a grueling and admirable task. Bravo.
  • Ahh, thank you so much guys!!! I'm doing my best to include all appearance sections from all novels as I progress thru the timeline. Uff didn't imagine it would take me a couple of years to do that. I still have long way to go, but I enjoy that nonetheless. Thank you for appreciating my work.--Jedi Marty 20:08, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

Centerpoint debate Edit

Hi Jedi Marty, I'm responding to your note to me.

"is it anywhere written, Han Solo actualy saw or even know about Centerpoint before A New Hope?": Not to my knowledge. However, this would be like attempting to claim that someone who was raised in Paris might not be familiar with the Eiffel Tower. It's not absolutely impossible, but would require a high degree of obliviousness to his surroundings, and very limited contact with other people in the city: people talk about notable features of their environment. Centerpoint Station is one of the features that makes the Corellian system unique. It's well nigh inconceivable that someone as world-wise and in tune with his surroundings as Han Solo might not know the basic details of Centerpoint, even if he'd never laid eyes on it firsthand. Nevertheless, I did couch the idea as "seemingly improbable" to allow for that bit of wiggle room.

There are plenty of other places where Wookieepedia documents things that are not explicitly spelled out in canon, but are logical consequences of things that are. My impression is that this is within the scope of the project.

"read Centerpoint Station talk page under Continuity Headache - somebody already explain very same situation there.": That unsigned explanation is intriguing, but ultimately doesn't hold water; I've followed up there. Asithol 20:18, March 2, 2012 (UTC)

  • Sorry for the very long delay in following up on your last response!

"frankly I don't think people from Corellian system even care (why should Han?) about purpose or in this case size": Perhaps not, but caring and awareness are two different things. If you take examples from our world of things constructed by prehistoric societies that we no longer know the original purpose of—say, Stonehenge, or the Easter Island statues—you could say that most people don't care about their purpose or size. Yet any reasonably world-wise person is aware of them and has a basic knowledge of their size.

And for most people on Earth, these things are in far-away places. In a galaxy where crossing a star system is like driving across town for us, Centerpoint Station is basically in the suburbs of the Corellian system. There's little reason to believe the average Corellian citizen would be unaware of the basic parameters of the station.

"it's nowhere stated (like you said) he knew about existence of Centerpoint before seeing Death Star I for the first time. It's really questionable when he learns about it's existence": Since canon offers us no answer about when Han learned of Centerpoint Station, we have no choice but to draw our own conclusion in the matter. So if we must deduce anyway, it is surely a far more logical deduction that Han would have learned about one of the most remarkable features of his home system while he was growing up there, than that he would oblivious enough to have missed one of its defining features.

I'm sure someone could (and may yet) retcon an explanation about how Han might have been that oblivious, but it's pretty clear this was a blatant oversight on Allen's part. And documenting errors in the canon is an important part of Wookieepedia's function. Asithol 01:49, June 13, 2012 (UTC)

    • You're right, I don't always have time to follow Wookieepedia regularly, so there's a time lag in some of my replies! To answer your question at the end of your last note to me, Roger MacBride Allen is the author of the books we had been discussing. Asithol (talk) 17:06, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

Jedi Knights Edit

Hey there. I haven't read the Young Jedi Knights books either, but I have seen the debate on message boards about whether or not the kids are Jedi Knights in the early NJO or not. I think the best course of action in this case might be to include whatever the dramatis personae says their title is, but create a "Continuity" sub-section at the bottom of the article that notes the discrepancy. Does that make sense? Like, a sentence saying "Although the dramatis personae says blah blah, they're not knighted until Destiny's Way. Menkooroo 03:21, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

Labyrinth of Evil Edit

Hi there. I'm reading through the book now and I'm adding these characters as I go along, but I haven't wrote down their page numbers. Which characters in particular are you talking about? Ressor (talk) 23:14, June 29, 2012 (UTC)

  • I skimmed through the book and here are the pages: Ur-Sema Du = Paperback pages 91-92, chapter 15 Grievous is thinking back to the Battle of Geonosis and the Jedi he killed that day, can be changed to 'imo'; Sha'a Gi = same pages Grievous is thinking about the 'hapless' Jedi he killed on Hypori, though I think this should be changed to 'imo' since the rest are mentioned by name later; Padme's parents: chapter 42 page 277 'her parents and advisers were arrested and jailed' so I suppose we could also add Sio Bibble in the appearances section under 'imo'; Lushros Dofine: chapter 43 although not named, it's pretty obvious that the Neimoidian talking to Grievous is Dofine. I hope this helps. Ressor (talk) 11:13, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

Caridan systemEdit

Hi, I'd counter your arguments with the fact that "Caridan system" was how the original author, Kevin J. Anderson, intended it to be named as the creator of the system. And has continued to be used even in TCSWE. As you've all already pointed out, Carida system is it's ALTERNATE name. This has already been established with regards to naming conventions for system names in the Essential Atlas/Online Companion appendix. Therefore the most canon name IS "Caridan system". May I ask what heading it is listed under in TCSWE? Rokkur Shen (talk) 23:13, February 1, 2013 (UTC)

  • As per my post on Cade's talk page, unless you can provide an overwhelming number of "in-universe" sources for it being named "Carida system" then it should remain "Caridan system". The Essential Reader's Companion, Atlas Online Companion etc are "out-of-universe" sources and do not override "in-universe" naming conventions. As an addendum, if we're taking the latest "in-universe chronological" placement for articles then the page should then in fact be moved to "Carida Nebula". Rokkur Shen (talk) 23:24, February 1, 2013 (UTC)
  • I appreciate it also Marty, I really do. The lengths you've gone to is above and beyond. What are your thoughts on moving it to "Carida Nebula"? Rokkur Shen (talk) 00:13, February 2, 2013 (UTC)
    • Thanks for your input. I've let this go for now. I've come to accept your reasoning on this matter but constant illogical/unexplained reverts and unjustified resistance to my edits by certain users is also forcing my hand. I'm still tempted to create a separate entry for Carida Nebula as you've confirmed the separate article in the CSWE but will hold off till this cooler heads preside; perhaps by raising it in the Senate Hall. Going back to an earlier point, as we write articles in the past tense from an IU perspective, I've been (and still am) under the impression that IU references to objects, places etc should take precedence over OOU sources within articles and pertaining to naming conventions. Rokkur Shen (talk) 02:56, February 2, 2013 (UTC)
      • Also just want to comment/clarify on your statement "Caridan system is like calling Coruscant system - Coruscanti system, it's just slightly different name (not a different system)". I am aware that Caridan/Carida system are the same system. Coruscanti system, may have been a bad example, as it does not exist (even as an alternate name). The reason the system was named Caridan system in the first place is that it was named after the most prominent celestial body, the star Caridan. Coruscant on the other hand, has Coruscant system named after it as Coruscant is the most prominent body in the system, being the centre (figuratively speaking) of the galaxy. I did however get what you were getting at. Thanks. Rokkur Shen (talk) 03:05, February 2, 2013 (UTC)

MOS and categories Edit

Hey Jedi Marty. I noticed you moving categories above the interlang template in recent edits. You're right that MOS said that, but that should have been updated a while ago per this CT. Categories should now go below the Interlang template. The relevant Layout Guide section was updated, but we missed the MOS part and I've now corrected it.:) Cheers, grunny@wookieepedia:~$ 11:49, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

Hello there! Edit

Hello Jedi Marty! Pardon me if you think I'm being intrusive, but I could'nt help but notice that message you left on my friend Menkooroo's talk page. Your modesty does you credit, but you don't have to feel awkward about your being nominated as WOTM. "Small edits" like the ones you perform are absolutely necessary to keep the Wook healthy and up to date. Too few of us actually take the time to update appearances lists and consider it "grunt work." However, this has to be done, and those who do it dutifully should be thanked for that. As regards English not being your mother tongue, don't worry about that: it's not mine either, and that didn't stop me from creating GAs and FAs! ;-) You'll find that other Wookieepedians are usually glad to review your texts if you ask for help. From a former WOTM and fellow non-native English speaker. --LelalMekha (talk) 19:49, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

  • You're welcome. Keep up the good work, by all means! GA and FA makers surely think such edits are useful to better prepare their subjects. :) Dare I inquire what your first language is? You don't seem to have too much trouble with the English language—not any more than I do, in any event. --LelalMekha (talk) 20:35, August 8, 2013 (UTC)
  • Hey Marty! Lelal's already said everything that I wanted to say, so I'll just add my encouragement to his. You're doing a great job, and the "grunt work" that you're doing with novels' Appearances sections is absolutely essential. Wookieepedia strives to provide comprehensive coverage of SW books/comics/movies/etc., and complete Appearances sections are essential to that mission. Keep up the good work! And yeah, don't worry if English isn't your first language; about half of the WOTM winners from the last year speak English as a second or third language, too. Menkooroo (talk) 11:52, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

Czech, you said? Then I'm afraid we won't be able to communicate in your mother tongue. ^^' I don't even know the first word of Czech, and I'm ashamed to say that I probably wouldn't recognize the language if I heard it. :-$ Do you have fellow countrymen here on the Wook? --LelalMekha (talk) 13:14, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

A few things Edit

(I'm starting a new discussion here so it will be easier.) Well yes, you can copy some of my templates and modify them. To be honest, that's how I did it in the first place because I'm not to good with html language. ;-) As regards my criteria for chosing articles for FA or GA standards, I don't really have any. Usually, I just select an article only because I like its subject! Most of the time though, I expand on articles that already exist, even at the most basic level, so I can have a ready list of appearances and sources to put me on the right path. Some of my GAs, however, were created from scratch. I only tried once to make an FA all by myself, but it did not succeed. The Royal Award Ceremony appeared or was mentioned in so many products that I just can't seem to get them all... --LelalMekha (talk) 16:09, August 14, 2013 (UTC)
