The Legends announcement has reduced my interest in Wookieepedia and Star Wars and caused me to redirect my focus to other aspects of my life. As a result, I am no longer anywhere near as active as I was; I now only check in here a few times per week instead of multiple times per day, and my limited time here is primarily spent on administrator- and bot-related tasks. Messages left here may take a few days to receive a response; urgent requests should be directed to a different administrator if I am not currently active on recent changes.

Welcome to my talk page. All are welcome here. (Except trolls, who will be blocked.)

Don't ask to ask; just ask your question. That said, please take a moment to read the following notes:

  • To keep the conversation together in one place, if you leave a message here, I will reply here.
  • If I leave a message on your talk page, please reply there to prevent fragmenting the conversation. I watchlist all talk pages that I edit. If I don't reply within a couple of days, ping me here to trigger an email notification.
  • Please do not use repeat or non-descriptive headings like "Request", as these headings make the table of contents difficult to navigate, and duplicate headers complicate section linking in the event I need to link to a discussion from this page elsewhere.
  • If you are here to request information from The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, please post your request on the Forum:Entry requests page, not here.
  • Please do not engage in general chit-chat here. Wookieepedia is not a social network. If it doesn't relate to Wookieepedia or Wikia, it probably doesn't belong on this page.
  • I no longer take copy-edit requests prior to nomination from established nominators; requests from these users will be declined unless there is an active objection on the nomination page requesting a copy-edit. Novice nominators are still welcome to bring their articles here prior to nomination, especially if they are still learning the rules and/or do not have a good grasp of English. If you request a copy-edit, please read the following guidelines:
    • Start a new section for each request. This means don't place new requests under old headings. The only time there should be multiple articles under a single heading is when they are requested simultaneously.
    • Pre-nom reviews, if requested, for novice nominators will be posted on the article talk page, not here. After all, that's where discussion on improving a specific article belongs.
    • If there are multiple pending requests, articles with active objections for a copy-edit on their nomination page will have top priority. Beyond that, articles will generally be processed on a first in, first out system.
    • {{Inuse}} or similar tags on the article will be ignored unless you say otherwise. Your request here constitutes implicit permission for me to edit through said tag.
    • There is no guaranteed turnaround time. For requests based on a current objection, I will try to handle them within one week and before the nomination becomes at risk of removal for inactivity, but you should request here ASAP after the objection is made. Pre-nom requests may take up to a couple of weeks, or possibly even longer. Also see the big red notice above regarding my general activity levels.

Darth Scabrous HK' droid requestEdit

Hey Master Jonathan I'm thinking putting up Darth Scabrous' HK droid as my first featured article nomination. I was wondering if you could look it over and make sure it meets the requirements. Thanks for your time if your able. DarthRevan1173 Revan Headshot (Long live Lord Revan) 03:23, April 9, 2014 (UTC)

I'll take a look at it within the next couple of days. Look for the review on the article's talk page, not here. If I haven't gotten to it by Saturday, ping me here because I probably forgot.

Hey Jonathan sorry to bother you again about this but do you mind looking at the article when you get a chance. DarthRevan1173 Revan Headshot (Long live Lord Revan) 01:37, April 22, 2014 (UTC)
Sorry about the delay. I encountered major computer problems the day after I last replied here, and that combined with real life conspired to keep me off of Wookieepedia almost completely for the past two weeks. I will try to tackle this before the end of this week.

It's no problem I'm not in a big hurry. DarthRevan1173 Revan Headshot (Long live Lord Revan) 00:33, April 24, 2014 (UTC)
Hey Jonathan I recently nominated the article and was wondering if you'd be able to copy-edit it. DarthRevan1173 Revan Headshot (Long live Lord Revan) 04:40, June 10, 2014 (UTC)
Oh dear. The Legends announcement was made the day after you last posted here, which quite obviously redirected my attention elsewhere for a while, and then caused me to begin to lose interest in actively maintaining Wookieepedia, so I haven't been checking in much except to occasionally handle admin and bot stuff. I probably should have put an inactivity notice at the top of this page a few weeks ago.
I will make an explicit point of getting to this request tonight. In the future, be aware that I am not as active as I used to be and therefore I probably will not handle copy-edit requests quickly. I may even say no altogether if it seems to be in decent shape and nobody has posted an objection seeking a copy-edit. But I will handle this one tonight.

Same question regarding "SIR, WE" in the first quote under Biography.
Master JonathanJedi symbol.svgCouncil Chambers
05:40 UTC WedJune 11, 2014
That's actually how that one appears in the book. DarthRevan1173 Revan Headshot (Long live Lord Revan) 05:43, June 11, 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'm done. There is, however, one significant issue that you will have to resolve yourself. The intro and biography are desperately in need of pronouns for the droid. Use the pronouns most commonly used for the droid in official sources, whether that is masculine pronouns (he, him, his) or gender-neutral (it, its). Be consistent throughout the article. If you need to use gender-neutral pronouns, remember that the possessive form of "it" is "its", without the apostrophe. "It's" with the apostrophe should only be used as a contraction of "it is" (and contractions are bad form in encyclopedic writing anyway). I corrected a couple of instances of a improper "it's". Otherwise, let me know if you have any questions.
Master JonathanJedi symbol.svgCouncil Chambers
06:00 UTC WedJune 11, 2014
What if the pronoun/s is only mentioned approximately 15 times in the book's entirety and the rest of the time it uses the HK, the HK droid, and the droid? Unsigned comment by DarthRevan1173 (talk • contribs).
That doesn't matter. As long as the book has one instance of a pronoun for the droid, we can extrapolate from that to determine which set (masculine or gender-neutral) is appropriate and use that set as much as we want.

Wikia star Edit

Hiya just telling you that hawkeye is completly done. Oh and i just noticed, youre a wikia star ?? What happened for that title ?and gongrats :PEmperor Jarjarkine StupidRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit Senate Hall

Wikia Star is a title that Wikia gives out to hand-selected established Wikia users who are carefully chosen for their skills and friendly interactions with other users, among other criteria. It's not something you can apply for or ask to be a part of; rather, Wikia chooses who they want and approaches those people privately. It's a relatively new program.

Right now, you will need to ask someone else. My computer is in the repair shop for at least the weekend, which means that I have virtually no ability to edit except for when I can briefly borrow someone else's computer like I am right now. On top of that, I'm preparing for a three-day mini-vacation next week, which is eating up most of my time, so I am simply unavailable until at least next Saturday, possibly longer depending on what's wrong with my computer.

Jez and the one whith the 's Edit

Hello, MJ, glad to see your PC is back online. Could you give Jez and Zephata'ru'tor a copy-edit? I'm kinda curious if Zep drops under 250 words. Clone Commander Lee Talk 14:09, April 25, 2014 (UTC)

A strange questionEdit

Hello, Master Jonathan... I know this is weird, but it's necessairy... I'm from Brazil, and I was just searching for a Godfather Wiki in portuguese. When I found it, I discovered that it was abandoned for two years and has only one user, who created all of it 79 pages and the wiki itself. His last edit was in 2012, and I don't even know if he is alive any more, but I had to discover somehow, because I intend to adopt his wiki or call him back. Then, I discovered that he has an account in your wiki (weird, I do know), so that's why I'm asking: Do you know this person?

MorgaineLeFay 00:36, April 29, 2014 (UTC)

I have never encountered that user. However, I did notice that his primary activity here was adding interlanguage links to the Portuguese version of Wookieepedia. I checked over there, and he seems to have been active more recently over there, although he hasn't edited there since January. However, you could try contacting him there; his user page is here. At the very least, it's an active wiki, so if he's gone, there's a small chance that the regulars there might know where he is if you ask nicely. :)

Master JonathanJedi symbol.svgCouncil Chambers
23:02 UTC WedMay 28, 2014
Isn't there a short sort of lexika at the end of each book with explanations etc. for characters, technology, planets and other stuff? Can't believe that would be only in the German versions. Clone Commander Lee Talk 23:12, May 28, 2014 (UTC)
Nope, the English versions have no such section. The German versions are still usable for our purposes, but you'll need to use care in translating and explicitly mention the translation in the BTS if you use information from them. If there is any conflict between the German glossary and any other English source, the English source should probably be given precedence.

Pix Edit

Hey, MJ. Could you give Pix a copy-edit? And yes, it is a FA by me. Very rare. :P Clone Commander Lee Talk 14:43, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

In this case, I'm going to have to say no, at least for now, as the article seems to be in decent shape. If you get an objection on the nom page seeking a copy-edit, come back here and I'll give it a copy-edit then. In general, the Legends announcement has reduced my interest in Wookieepedia, and so I have been re-evaluating my priorities and redirecting my focus to other aspects of my life. Going forward, I will probably only take copy-edit requests if an objection on the nom page has requested one. An update to the header of this page reflecting this change will come soon.

Voting Edit

Re: this comment

I took pride in being perhaps the only person to have had an edit count over 1,000 and not meet the requirements of the voting policy. :P - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:19, June 11, 2014 (UTC)

LOL! I'm sure we've had an unhelpful user or two that spammed enough user page edits and KB questions to reach that threshold. And I've been teetering on the edge of the productivity requirement myself for quite some time because I don't do much article writing anymore; I have a total edit count over 23,000 but am only 800 and some edits over the threshold, and that's been as low as 200 at times.
Master JonathanJedi symbol.svgCouncil Chambers
19:30 UTC WedJune 11, 2014
Still in better shape than me! My threshold is probably less than 100, but at least I have a threshold now that I have something to contribute. I guess if there's one thing Wookieepedia can be thankful for with new canon, it's that the community is now graced by my presence. :D - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:52, June 11, 2014 (UTC)

Master JonathanJedi symbol.svgCouncil Chambers
00:49 UTC ThuJune 12, 2014
Actually, scratch that. Re-reading the article answered my question. Apparently I've gone blind from staring at Python code all day. :P I do have a suggestion for your second article: create Hawkeye/Canon with the appropriate information and nominate it as well. You'd just have to copy this article over to the canon tab and remove all information that comes from Legends sources, which here is the ERC, Fact File, and obsolete articles. It would probably be fairly easy since you already have the hardest part done. However, I would recommend waiting until after your first nomination passes; you really shouldn't have multiple nominations active at once until you have a few noms' worth of experience under your belt to help you understand how they work and what's expected.

RoboCade Edit

MJ, please stop reverting RoboCade. I'm removing the DISPLAYTITLEs on purpose; they're being replaced with the Eras template's version, and once this script was finished, I'm going to run a second script to remove those categories and insert the italicized pagenames into the eras template.

No, set things up in the Eras template first, then remove the DISPLAYTITLEs once there will be no disruption. Breaking the formatting in the interim is not acceptable. —MJ— Holocomm 23:52, July 23, 2014 (UTC)
If you hadn't started to revert this, I would have been done with this entire thing in a few hours. However, I'll keep that in mind for the future. For now, please revert your reversions; you've caused collateral damage by removing RoboCade's edits from other scripts. I'll be done soon, and I apologize for the confusion. Cade StupidRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit Calrayn 23:54, July 23, 2014 (UTC)
That collateral damage is an unavoidable side effect of the only reasonable method for reverting such a huge amount of edits. As I see it, we have two ways to proceed: I can continue the mass rollbacks to fix the italicization as fast as possible (unavoidably causing collateral damage), or you can stop what you're doing and manually revert each and every edit the bot has made on this run to avoid said collateral damage. I will not revert back to a broken version, nor will I permit others to revert to a broken version. In either case, the bot will remain blocked until the damage is cleaned up. —MJ— Council Chambers 00:00, July 24, 2014 (UTC)
And since it seems that someone else has unblocked the bot, let me be clear that I expect you to proceed by first reverting all of the damage. If you continue to cause more damage, I will block again without permission for others to unblock, and since I am leaving tomorrow for a couple of days, you will have to wait for me to return to get it unblocked. —MJ— Council Chambers 00:02, July 24, 2014 (UTC)
MJ, you're essentially saying that you're refusing to unvandalize articles. My bot has already started the application of the new title parameter, so your argument that it is a "broken version" is moot because it will be fixed within the next two hours. Please, I'm asking you nicely to revert your edits; you've undone a great deal of work other than this recent script. Also, the addition to the Eras template was sanctioned by the recent CT, and that was why I created the maintenance category Category:Articles using DISPLAYTITLE so that we can track the places where it has conflicted. I would ask that you please revert your removal of the functionality, as per the CT. Thank you. Cade StupidRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit Calrayn 00:16, July 24, 2014 (UTC)
My reversion of the Eras template does not prevent the new parameters from being used and working, and there is no rush to enable them by default. On the contrary, your enabling of them by default broke every single usage of DISPLAYTITLE, and therefore every single italicized title, in the mainspace. That is unacceptable. Consider this an official warning for disruption. Further disruption on or approaching this scale will result in both you and the bot being blocked. As for the recent bot edits, because I have other things to deal with for the rest of the night, I will allow you until I get up tomorrow (at 5:00 AM EDT) to fix things. However, I will NOT revert my reversions, because the reversions were and still are correct. That is your responsibility. —MJ— Comlink 00:21, July 24, 2014 (UTC)

1.6 Fixing redirecting link(s) Edit

It seems that page [1] has completely disappeared, as each time I click on it I'm passed through to page [2]

Which is strange, as the Republic Troop Transport page used to be there, and is an existing (so no fanon made) vehicle from the Old Republic videogame. At the Old Republic Wikia the vehicle is still there: [3] and it is noteably different to the Manka-class Transporter.

I'd really like to have the original page back for cross-reference of a model project I am currently working on.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

With kind regards,

HJR-Holland -- 13:40, August 6, 2014 (UTC)

Cade Calrayn first moved the article to a new title more compliant with our naming policy, then a few minutes later determined the subject to be simply an early version of the Manka (the creator of the article is known for fanon of this kind). Per our "one subject, one article" rule, he therefore redirected both titles to the Mankas. If you believe they are separate entities that need separate articles, you will need to discuss with Cade, as I am unfamiliar with the subject. If you just want the page history for personal use, you can find that here (clicking on timestamps will produce the content of that revision). Unfortunately, the image has since been deleted as unused; however, I have temporarily uploaded it to my personal test wiki here for your reference. If you do need it, please download it to your computer as soon as possible, as I will not keep it on my wiki for long. —MJ— Comlink 16:26, August 6, 2014 (UTC)

Chara Edit

Hey, Jonathan. Someone recently moved the "Chara" article to "Charasae Saal" without explanation. Since you were the original nominator, I figured you ought to sign off on this one way or another, so I wanted to see if you approved of this change and whether it should be reverted. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 17:20, August 8, 2014 (UTC)

I would have caught this on my watchlist, but thanks for the alert anyway. I specifically moved it to Chara during the nomination process because that is the last known name for him; it is not a nickname. So I've moved it back. The title it was moved to was misspelled also, hence why I didn't leave a redirect. Let me know if you have any other questions. —MJ— Training Room 17:31, August 8, 2014 (UTC)

Confused on copy/paste issue on Wook Edit

Hey MJ, I'm pretty confused and I was wondering if you could provide some clarity on this subject. Jedi Temple Edit

Hey. I don't have The Rebellion Begins, so I'm curious - can you provide the exact quote/passage that says the Jedi Temple was demolished? That makes no sense, considering it's in Return of the Jedi and that Tarkin establishes the Jedi Temple as being converted to the Imperial Palace (unless they just rebuilt a similar-looking building). Thanks! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:04, October 29, 2014 (UTC)

  • Just got it on Kindle. It doesn't have page numbers though. What scene does it appear in? I'll take a look for it myself. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:07, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
    • It's in the final scene, second-to-last page in a 168-page book. Since I already had it typed out, I'll leave it here in case anyone else needs to refer to it: The following is Kanan's introspection, presented as narration, during the scene of him playing the full Obi-Wan message, specfically after Obi-Wan says "Do not return to the Temple; that time has passed": "Time had passed; that was for sure. Enough that the Jedi Temple had become yet another ghost in his memories, an element of a dream he must piece together in his new life. A return to the Temple would not help, even if he wanted to go. Nothing of it remained on the world now known as Imperial City. Not a museum, not a plaque, not a mark. The Empire had reduced all its brick and steel to dust." From this point, Obi-Wan's message continues, and the introspection moves on to other things. —MJ— Training Room 05:11, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
      • Huh that's weird. I guess we'll see what Tarkin has to say about it. I'd personally recommend that we not include information about its alleged destruction until Tarkin comes out, considering a) the temple is obviously in Jedi and b) Tarkin says it's the Imperial Palace, and may clarify the discrepancy. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:14, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
        • Well, it's what we have for now, and films no longer automatically override books. Pending further clarification from Tarkin, I think they may have decided that since a quick and simple scene in ROTJ can be overridden without much problem. Tarkin may give us better information, but from what I understand, it's set well before Rebels, so would not necessarily contradict this. Sheev very well could have decided between Tarkin and Rebels that it was better to demolish the place, for a variety of reasons (propaganda, etc.). So the two stories can co-exist, and this book can override such a simple film scene if the Story Group wants to. —MJ— Comlink 05:20, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
          • Part of the Canon/Legends announcement was that Episodes I-VI and The Clone Wars, as George Lucas' vision, are the "immovable objects" of the canon. The films wouldn't be overridden. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:23, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
          • I tweeted to the author, here, asking about it. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:29, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
            • (reply to the "immovable objects" post) Where was this explicitly said? I don't remember seeing that, though I may have just forgotten or not read the specific article. And I don't think they would go so far as to say that essentially throwaway shots like the Temple in ROTJ are permanently set in stone. The plot, yes, I can understand not wanting to alter it, but a single throwaway shot that many people won't even see or recognize (I've never noticed it before until I hunted for a screenshot of it just now) and that plays no significant role in the story is hardly "immovable". —MJ— Holocomm 05:32, October 29, 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) It was said here, in the announcement: "While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align." And the temple was specifically added into the movie by Lucas in the 2004 DVD release, so he made a deliberate point to include it. This passage in the book is either something that will be smoothed over by Tarkin, or was a mistake. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:37, October 29, 2014 (UTC)

I still think that such a simple scene can be overridden, and for all we know George may have given them the okay to do so. Force knows he's revised his own works several times, so it's not out of the realm of believability that he'd grant permission for someone else to do so. Anyway, I need to go to bed, so I'm signing off. Pending confirmation of what's going on, I suggest slapping {{Twoconflicting}} on the page for now, at least until Tarkin comes out or we get official confirmation as to what's going on. —MJ— Comlink 05:42, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
I'll add the template for now. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:44, October 29, 2014 (UTC)

Destruction of the Jedi Temple Edit

Hello Master Jonathan! Since you added the bit regarding the destruction of the Jedi Temple in The Rebellion Begins, I presume you do own the book. Just out of curiosity, could you quote the exact passage where it's mentioned? I want to know whether that mistake can be sorted out easily or not. Cheers. --Lelal Mekha Old Republic military symbol (Audience Room) 14:41, October 29, 2014 (UTC)

  • See the above section. Jonathan quoted it there. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 14:50, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
    • D'Oh! Thank you Brandon. I can be so absent-minded at times... --Lelal Mekha Old Republic military symbol (Audience Room) 14:51, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
      • Thanks for the quick assist, Brandon. I was in bed asleep at the time. :) —MJ— Training Room 17:25, October 29, 2014 (UTC)

Please check out the discussion here. Thanks. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:42, November 20, 2014 (UTC)

I can't though, because I'm blocked from leaving messages on that wiki too. Please don't block me here too. Awesomekid120 (talk) 22:49, November 23, 2014 (UTC)Awesomekid120
