Legends names in "Blade Squadron" Edit

Hi, Professor Tofty! I just wanted to chime in to say that the "Legends" names that remain in the Blade Squadron are in fact redirects that should be overriden. It happens that the text does use those names, which are only alternate names found in the Legends continuity. I'm not sure I'm making myself very clear, though. ^^" --Lelal Mekha Old Republic military symbol (Audience Room) 19:39, May 30, 2014 (UTC)

Novelizations Edit

The movie novelizations are canon to the extent that we keep them in the Appearances section; however, they should generally not be used in references. Cheers, 1358 (Talk) 19:47, May 30, 2014 (UTC)

  • They should be there. The novelizations were declared canon where they intersect with the movies, which means at least certain parts of them are canon. Cheers, 1358 (Talk) 20:13, May 30, 2014 (UTC)
    • Yes, and in fact this has been discussed among several regulars and there will probably be a vote on it during next week or so. For now, however, I'd ask you to stop removing the instances as I think we should default to listing all canon items, novels included. 1358 (Talk) 20:22, May 30, 2014 (UTC)

User page Edit

Nice to see you finally killed that red link. ;) - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:14, August 21, 2014 (UTC)

Heh heh, yeah, it was about time, eh? ProfessorTofty (talk) 22:16, August 21, 2014 (UTC)

Re: CSD Edit

The article was deleted because most of it was just copy/pasted from the Legends article. You're completely welcome to recreate the article, just make sure that it's worded differently. IFYLOFD (Enter the Floydome) 00:22, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

  • You definitely added some extra stuff on, but too much of the text was identical. Like I said, you're welcome to recreate it. IFYLOFD (Enter the Floydome) 00:27, September 5, 2014 (UTC)
    • Personally, (and I mean this as no disrespect) I think it's just lazy. What's the point of clicking on the canon version of an article if what's within is identical to the one you're already on? For all intents and purposes, we're treating these as two separate articles, and the wording within should be separate. IFYLOFD (Enter the Floydome) 00:36, September 5, 2014 (UTC)
      • Not to butt in, but while I don't subscribe to the laziness argument, there is the copyright element to it as well. It's free to copy, sure, but there are requirements that you have to meet in order to copy it. The ShareAlike requirement is taken care of by default, considering everything here is CC-BY-SA, but there's also the Attribution requirement. You would have to put a tag on the page saying that content has been reused from the original page, as well as a provide a link to the authors of the original content. Considering that would not be great for user engagement (to Floyd's point, it's a deterrence), you should just start from scratch. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 00:45, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

WOTM nomination Edit

Hey Tofty. I've nominated you for Wookieepedian of the Month. Do you accept the nomination? I hope so! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 00:03, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox images Edit

Please be aware that infobox images no longer require a specified size. The infoboxes are now coded to determine this automatically. Adding |300px is now unnecessary. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 02:13, September 30, 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations on becoming Wookieepedian of the Month! Well deserved. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:27, October 1, 2014 (UTC)

  • Congratulations :) Would you be interested in doing an interview? Supreme Emperor (talk) 00:01, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

Interview Edit

Alright, I should be able to get you some questions tomorrow night. Also, let me know if you have any image preferences. Supreme Emperor (talk) 00:19, October 3, 2014 (UTC)

Questions Edit

  1. How did you react when you discovered you had been nominated?
  2. How did you first discover Star Wars?
  3. On that note, how did you first find Wookieepedia?
  4. What was your reaction when the NuCanon was announced?
  5. You have been editing here quite a bit as of late, mostly working on NuCanon articles. What made you decide to start there?
  6. Tell us a bit about some of the other Wikis you have worked on
  7. As I have asked all previous winners, what role do you feel Wookieepedia plays in the greater Star Wars community?
  8. Got any words of advice or wisdom for those hoping to start editing?
  9. If you could change one thing about the site, what would it be?
  10. What are some of your favorite Star Wars works?
  11. Do you have any future projects planned?
  12. What kind of impact would you like to leave on Wookieepedia?

That's it. I'm on the IRC most nights if you want to pm me the answers there, or they can just be left on my talk page. Have fun :) Supreme Emperor (talk) 03:15, October 7, 2014 (UTC)

Adventures of Luke Skywalker Edit

Hey. I see you have The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight. I won't have it until Monday, so can you tell me if Vader's funeral is in it at all, and what it says about it? I'll need that info to update my GA, Funeral of Anakin Skywalker/Canon. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:27, October 8, 2014 (UTC)

What's wrong with my quote? Edit

Hey guy. I see you removed my last quote. I know it wasn't formatted correctly and all. I'm kinda more used to editing smaller things than such.

I know it's not exactly the best idea challenging you since you seem to scan this entire wiki up and down and obviously you are a huge fan. But I just don't see what's wrong with the quote i was just using. Not only is it better than Vader's current quote that doesn't say much, it's revealing what being a Stormtrooper is like, not just "there is lot's of them." I'm currently trying to find a better quote to use than Vader's. It just isn't fair. Stormtroopers had a massive impact on the Star Wars universe (obviously) and giving them a quote like "let's just keep throwing them into battle because we have tonnes of them" just isn't very fitting for my liking. Perhaps a quote actually being SAID by a Stormtrooper for instance. Unsigned comment by Heatlineheard (talk • contribs).

Still on quote Edit

In that case, would it be wise to perhaps kill a bird with two stones? Get rid of the quote on that unpopular section to home it to another page? One where it would be better off? Your call. Unsigned comment by Heatlineheard (talk • contribs).

Warning Edit

This is a warning to you regarding the creation of "new canon" subjects. I will cite Wookieepedia:Notability policy: "Subjects that both appeared within new canon material and received names and backstories within material that falls under the Legends brand shall not receive new canon articles until they receive names in material that is considered canon." Your creation of the "Yoda's species/Canon" page violates this policy as far as I can see. There does not appear to be any source that uses the term "Yoda's species," and this is not the first article creation of yours that I will have deleted now on these grounds. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:43, October 16, 2014 (UTC)

  • Why are you asking me? It's your responsibility as the article creator to verify the validity of a subject. You should never be creating articles because you see redlinks pointing somewhere on Wookieepedia. Wookieepedia is not a source. You are required to verify each article subject you create. If you continue to create articles without proper verification, punitive actions will be considered. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:53, October 16, 2014 (UTC)

Changing these notability requirements further is something I intend to propose whenever we have the next Mofference (the last Mofference is when conjecturally-titled events became allowed). In the meantime I'd just encourage you to watch out for anything that doesn't have an official name. If it had a name in Legends and even seems conjectural in Canon, then I'd avoid creating it. That's what I tend to do. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:18, October 16, 2014 (UTC)

  • Sounds like a good idea to me. As for this-- well, heh, actually it didn't have a name in Legends. The subject name was conjecture from the go anyway and was tagged so on the Legends article, which was one of the things that threw me. (As for this not being the first such article I've created that has been deleted for that, I could be wrong, but I think actually it is. True lightsaber combat wasn't properly sourced at first, but it was fixed [and thank you for that, Toprawa].) ProfessorTofty (talk) 20:21, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
    • If we can find a conjectural name in canon that more or less matches the Legends name, we end up using it. That's something Tope and I have worked on in a few cases. Regarding Yoda's species, the Legends page is actually tagged with the nickname template. Presumably, that means "Yoda's species" has been used in Legends and therefore works as a name, even if it's just a nickname. If it was a conjectural name, I would agree with you considering the wording of the policy (i.e. it does not say that conjecturally-named Legends subjects cannot have a Canon counterpart). - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:38, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
  • Where is the term "Advanced Recon Commando" used in Canon to validate the article you just created? Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 23:04, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
    • If need be, it can be moved to ARC Trooper, which is used in canon. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 23:22, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
      • Alright, I'm going to go ahead and put this at ARC Trooper. ProfessorTofty (talk) 23:31, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
        • Then let this be your final warning regarding this. You need to check sources and verify titles and information before you create articles or add information to this wiki. To repeat, Wookieepedia is not a source. That means do not assume that information is correct just because you find it on this wiki. The next time you add unverified information to Wookieepedia, you will be blocked from editing. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 23:35, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
          • Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions. I think it'd be quite nutty if a current Wookieepedian of the Month was blocked over something so trivial and innocent. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 23:37, October 16, 2014 (UTC)

Anakin Skywalker/CanonEdit

I would like to help with the major changes taking place on the article. Matt Seay added a bulk of the info to the article and I would like to help out. 17:23, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Skywalker ArticleEdit

Alright man. I am sure those things were not done intentionally but I can see it does need a lot of work. Just let me know when you are ready for me jump in and help. 17:32, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Clone Wars SourceEdit

I have no idea why I am having such a hard time with a simple sourcing edit, but I can not seem to get the Clone Wars Movie source to work. I am going to remove the Inuse Tag and can you please help me with it? Skywalker2255 (talk) 21:25, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Databank Edit

Hey man. Quick heads up regarding Databank and Encyclopedia links (as a follow-up to the edit I made to CC-5576-39/Canon). Per the Layout Guide, specifically the Canon sub-section of the Sources section, Encyclopedia and Databank links have a specific order they go in. The Encyclopedia is treated as if its publication date was July 1, 2014, as that was its last day in operation. The Databank always goes at the end, because it's treated as something that is always evolving and therefore does not have a publication date. I hope that clears things up. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:42, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

Slaves of the RepublicEdit

Since the Inuse tag is still on it can you add the info from that story arch to the Anakin Skywalker/Canon article? Skywalker2255 (talk) 05:19, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Lothal/Kothal Edit

Regarding this, there is a city on Lothal called Kothal. Is that what the book could be referring to? I don't have it so I don't know the context the word is used in. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 04:25, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, I had no idea. I suppose it certainly could be, then. I got the book from the library and don't have it right now, so I just undone my edit. I'll try to check a copy of it later. ProfessorTofty (talk) 05:04, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Sources Edit

Hey Tofty. Please remember to add appropriate sources to pages, such as Double-bladed lightsaber/Canon. When something from the movies/TV shows isn't named on-screen, but in textual material, it's important that you directly reference where that name is used. That way, people can be sure of the accuracy of the information. There was also information, including in the infobox, that was not sourced.

Tope has pointed out sourcing issues to you before, and the admins are very serious about this. You are a good and productive editor, and one of the few people who document canon information, but that documentation has to be done right. The admins are rightly going to insist on following the rules, and this is an easily correctable mistake. If you have questions or are unsure of something, please let me know so I can help. I don’t want to see you (or anyone, for that matter) blocked, and the admins will probably do this now that this issue has happened a number of times, so I will help wherever I can. Thanks. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 01:48, October 25, 2014 (UTC)

  • Putting 1stID for double-bladed lightsaber after 100 Scenes would've actually been inaccurate, since canon sources from before 100 Scenes use it (I added some to the page). The most important thing is making sure that there's a reference especially, referencing the name so people know exactly where to look. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 02:03, October 25, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Balloon Edit

Thank you for warning me. To be perfectly frank, I suspected that TC proposal would end up happening some day. But I will refrain from voicing my opinion right now, since I certainly am partial about that—the guys who made the balloon and I were members of the Belgian 501st Legion FanWars Garrison, and good friends too. I don't think my stand on the matter would be objective enough, at least for now. --Lelal Mekha Old Republic military symbol (Audience Room) 13:55, October 29, 2014 (UTC)
