CharacteristicsEdit

One of the heaviest energy cannons introduced to the battlefield, the Penetrator had a crew of 8 and fired an energy bolt so powerful it could threaten an AT-AT.^[1] Its size and power requirements meant V-188s were usually mounted in fixed defensive positions and hooked directly into power generators, giving it an unlimited number of shots. When mounted on mobile platforms, the Penetrator either used its own energy cells, enough for 6 shots, or towed an energy trailer behind it, allowing for 50 shots.

The biggest disadvantage of the V-188 was that its shots disintegrate rapidly, falling below 50% at long range. Even at this range, though, the Penetrator was still a serious danger for most armored vehicles.

HistoryEdit

First introduced during the Clone Wars, the V-188 Penetrator was quickly adopted by the Galactic Empire after the end of the conflict. In the Imperial Army, they were usually equipped on the Aratech 440 Super-Heavy Armored Chassis.

The Rebel Alliance was able to acquire a number of V-188s through the black market and battlefield salvage. While many were put in storage for safe-keeping, a number were deployed on modified 440 Chassis equipped with Repulsorlift generators, upgraded targeting computers and fusion generator.^[2]
