A vacuum-wrapped parcel was a method of storing types of food or other perishable items in an airless environment, usually in an air-tight pack or container to prevent the growth of microorganisms. The vacuum environment removed atmospheric oxygen, protecting the object from spoiling by limiting the growth of aerobic bacteria or fungi, and preventing the evaporation of volatile components.
