A variable pressure adaptor was a component that could be used in blasters[1] and pocket computers.[2] On a blaster, it was a small adjustor on the XCiter which controlled how much blaster gas left the XCiter and entered the actuating module. A miscalibrated adaptor could result in too much blaster gas entering the actuating module which could cause overloads, misfires, and a loss of firepower over time.[1] Variable pressure adjustors were part of a pocket computer's keypad. General Airen Cracken devised a way to use the adjustor to jury-rig a blaster into producing a targeting beam of light. By unplugging the trigger cable from the press plate, a variable pressure adjustor could be plugged into the impulse slot and set between 0.106 and 1.0. The trigger cable was then plugged back into the adjustor. When the trigger was half squeezed, the Heter-Valve would release a small amount of gas into the XCiter. While the gas would be energized as normal, there was only enough energy to create a steady stream of light. The light was emitted from the barrel, creating a makeshift laser sight that pinpointed where a blaster shot would strike when the weapon was fired.[1]
