Variise was a member of the Mistryl Shadow Guard who served as the primary bodyguard for Moff Caerbellak of Rydonni Prime in the years after the Battle of Endor.
It was circulated that the Moff had earned Variise's loyalty by rescuing her from pirates, but it is possible that the Eleven Elders, always possessed of a ruthlessness that seemed to defy the ideology they professed, saw Caerbellak as a possible ally.
[edit] Personality and traits
Variise had red hair and fingernails painted to match, as well as an exclamation point tattooed over her right temple and cheek. However, unlike most in the Shadow Guard, she had a ruthless and sometimes even a sadistic aspect to her personality. Perhaps the most unusual thing about her, however, was the fact that she was working for an Imperial Moff: it was almost unheard-of for a Mistryl to serve an Imperial officer in this way. This was actually illegal under Emberlene law, due to the bitter hostility towards the New Order which was encouraged by the Eleven Elders of the People.
