Velusia was an oceanic planet in the Velus system, near the Perlemian Trade Route.

Description
Edit
Most of Velusia's surface was covered with salty oceans. The only landmasses were scattered, largely volcanic islands in the equatorial regions. The land was unstable, wracked by groundquakes and volcanic activity, and so was of little interest to spacefarers. Numerous coral atolls were present near the islands, and the oceans were covered in ice near the poles.[2]
Velusia was the homeworld of the near-Human Aquar. The oceans supported plankton, algae, and fish, while the rocky islands supported lichens, small shrubs, and avians.[2]
Velusia's oceans were rich in suspended ores, although the Aquar were not aware of this.[2] Most Aquar lived in Mount Hollow, the planet's largest city and the location of its only starport.[4]
History
Edit
Velusia was originally inhabited by a group of Humans who established colonies on several of the planet's islands. Over time, they eked out a subsistence living and developed traits suitable for their environment, evolving into the Aquar.[2]
Thousands of years later, Velusia was discovered by scouts from the Nexcore Mining Corporation (NMC), which purchased rights from the Aquar to explore for ore deposits. The terms of the lease stated that any ore discovered within 40 years would be jointly owned by the Aquar and the NMC. If nothing valuable was found within 40 years, then all profits would be transferred to the NMC. The NMC discovered the ore and kept its knowledge of the discovery secret until the 40 years had expired.[2]
During the Rebellion era, the Galactic Empire established an aggressive oceanic harvesting program on Velusia. It was rumored that a hidden Rebel cell was located on one of the planet's islands.[2]
The Yuuzhan Vong conquered Velusia as they invaded the Core Worlds following their seizure of Coruscant.[1]
