Confrontation on Shumari
Edit
- "Hunt end now. You end now. You pay for kill my people! You pay for kill my family!"
- ―Vengeful Tusken Raider
One of the few Tuskens to venture offplanet, he left Tatooine and traveled the galaxy in order to find Skywalker. The Tusken eventually learned that Skywalker was now called Darth Vader and managed to track down Vader to the planet Shumari in 1 ABY, where he confronted him.
Vader, who was weary after having dueled Tao, his former apprentice was taken by surprise, as the Tusken Raider leapt at him and knocked him to the ground. As Vader lay defeated on the ground, the Tusken dealt the deathblow and defeated the Sith Lord once and for all; the only thing that saved Vader's life was his dying apprentice Tao, who saved Vader and told him not to let the Emperor control him, sensing some good within his master.
Talents and equipment
Edit
- "Swore revenge... vowed hunt you forever. Learn your tongue. Learn you fight. Travel the galaxy forever."
- ―Vengeful Raider
During the uneven battle, Vader had sensed anger and pure hate in the Tusken, arguing to himself that this was the essence of the power of the dark side. It is unknown whether Vader sensed the Force in the Tusken or whether he just compared the anger and hate to the dark side.
This Tusken had also become somewhat proficient in Basic, though not mastering its grammar fully. However, he was proficient enough to tell Darth Vader how long he had been looking for the Sith Lord and that he intended to kill him. The Tusken informed Vader that he had learned to speak Vader's language as part of his hunt for Vader. The Tusken was also well versed in galactic politics and knew of the Emperor and his Galactic Empire.
The Tusken used modified gaffi sticks in melee combat, which appeared to make use of energy beam technology reminiscent of that which was used in lightsabers. The Tusken claimed that he had learned to fight the same way as Vader fought. The tubes pertruding from his headwrap were longer, pointier and more spiky than those of other Tusken Raiders, and he had two large claw-like weapons attached to each of his boots. He also had modified his Gaffi stick to house two lightsabers, though it is unknown how he got the sabers, and he is not known to use them.
Behind the scenes
Edit
This individual only appears in the story Perfect Evil, which spanned issues Black and Silver of Star Wars Manga. Originally published in Japan, those stories were considered to be of "fuzzy" continuity by Lucasfilm.[1] Since then, they have been republished in English in the United Kingdom under Infinities label, which established the material in them as non-canonical. The planet Shumari has been later referenced in The Essential Atlas, which included the Shumari system in its appendix. However, according to Jason Fry, "its inclusion shouldn't be taken as a statement of canonicity for anything except the geography."[2]
