Venthan Chassu grew up as a prodigy in the Commission for the Protection of the Republic's SAGroup and as a fervent loyalist of the Galactic Republic he greatly admired Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine during the Clone Wars. During the war he produced a propaganda piece titled "Do Not Bind His Hands," aiming to persuade viewers to support Palpatine's war efforts. Following the reformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire, Chassu worked as a junior advisor in the Imperial Court and was believed to have fled known space after the Empire's defeat at the Battle of Jakku.

Venthan Chassu was first mentioned in the Star Wars Legends novella Side Trip written by Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole and published between issues 12 and 13 of the Star Wars Adventure Journal released in 1997. He was confirmed to be canon by the reference book Star Wars Propaganda: A History of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo and released October 25, 2016.
