The Virgillian Free Alignment was the democratic government that rebelled against the Aristocracy government that ruled the Virgillian sector. The 24 BBY-4 ABY conflict was called the Virgillian Civil War, and resulted in the Alignment's victory.

As the Aristocracy was the established Virgillian government, and nominally a member of the Galactic Republic, the Alignment had trouble getting any support from outside the Sector.

The rise of the Galactic Empire and the start of the Galactic Civil War prompted the Alignment to ally itself with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Shortly before the end of the war, the SoroSuub Corporation began donating spare ships to the Alignment, including several Quasar Fire-class bulk cruisers which were refitted into light carriers, like Flurry. These carriers were used to carry Zebra starfighters, C-73 Tracker starfighters, and Z-95 Headhunters. After twenty eight years of fighting, the Alignment finally defeated the Aristocracy and ended the war, shortly before the Battle of Endor. The new Alignment government sent what forces it could spare to the Alliance force massing at Sullust, including twenty-two warships.
