"The dark side has come before, and it will come again. Do not underestimate its power. That is why I have devoted my life to teaching Jedi Knights, to strengthen the light side against the tide of darkness that is sure to come."
―Vodo-Siosk Baas

Vodo-Siosk Baas was a Krevaaki Jedi Master. He was the ancestor of Bodo Baas.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Instructor of Jedi

"My master has been respected for centuries among our fraternity."
―Exar Kun about Vodo-Siosk Baas[src]

Like his descendant Bodo, Vodo was "Gatekeeper" of a holocron. Vodo trained several Jedi on Ossus[1] and Dantooine, one of these being Exar Kun. Kun, unlike Vodo's other students, was fascinated by the ways of the Sith. Master Vodo was unhappy with this fascination, and realized that if Kun delved too deeply into the dark side of the Force, he would turn from the Jedi path, perhaps permanently.

[edit] Fall of Exar Kun

"You're sure you want to do this, master?"
"I would put the same question to you, boy.

When Kun nearly killed one of his fellow pupils, a Cathar named Sylvar, Master Vodo stepped in and challenged Kun to a duel of walking stick versus his pupil's lightsaber. Despite what seemed to be overwhelming odds, Master Vodo apparently defeated Kun. Exar Kun used the Force to reach for an extra lightsaber, and eventually managed to break his Master's walking stick. Vodo acknowledged Kun as his most formidable student, yet indicated that there was emptiness within his soul with much potential for the dark side to overtake him.

During this time, Master Vodo taught both Nomi Sunrider and Shoaneb Culu on lightsaber construction. This seems to indicate that Master Vodo was himself a skilled Jedi artisan.

Kun left Dantooine, and when he finally called again to Master Vodo, it was when he was crushed and near-dead under the ruins of a Sith Mausoleum Freedon Nadd had collapsed on top of him on Korriban. Vodo tried to help meditating in the Force to protect his former student, but Freedon Nadd's spirit blocked his efforts.

[edit] The Sith War

"Go on to your higher plane, teacher. The galaxy is mine now."
―Exar Kun[src]

During the Great Sith War, at the Trial of Ulic Qel-Droma, Vodo challenged Kun before the frozen Galactic Senate. Vodo and Kun fought each other, but when Kun revealed his double-bladed lightsaber, Vodo could not hold him off, and was slain by his former pupil.

Vodo's spirit became one with the Force, and his stories became part of the holocron's stories. Years later in 11 ABY, Luke Skywalker used Vodo's holocron at his Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, until the spirit of Exar Kun destroyed it.[2] After that, the spirit of Vodo joined with Luke and his Jedi initiates to bind and destroy Exar Kun forever.[3]
