The Voice of the Emperor, also known as the Emperor's Voice, was a position created by the Emperor of the reconstituted Sith Empire. The position required that an individual give up his or her body to the Emperor during a Sith ritual, becoming an extension of his will in the galaxy. Various incarnations have appeared over the centuries, extending from a Human female to a Pureblood Sith Lord. Essentially, the Voice acts as regent to the Emperor, obeyed as the supreme master himself. Though the host body may be killed, the Emperor's essence is returned to Hand, making the Voice immortal. The latest Voice to be known was a Voss visionary, kidnapped from his homeworld.

During the Cold War, Darth Baras became aware that the Emperor had withdrawn from governance of the Empire. Thus, he trapped the Voice on Voss in the temple of the dark side entity Sel-Makor while Baras plotted to pose as the Voice. If the Dark Council acknowledges Baras as such, he would have supreme power in the Empire. The Emperor's Hand became aware of this and rescued Baras' former apprentice to become the Emperor's Wrath to oppose Baras. The Wrath went on to freeing the true Voice on Voss, slaying the host and freeing the Emperor's essence. With the Voice returned to them, the Hand began preparations to find a new host, though it would take some time. Afterwards, the Wrath finally confronted Baras and exposed him as the false Voice.
The Hand later sent a message to the Wrath, revealing that the being the Hero of Tython slayed on Dromund Kaas was the true Voice, greatly weakening the Emperor's consciousness.
