Volik was first discovered by a Czerka Corporation survey team. They determined that the planet had no mineral resources that were of use to Czerka, but saw that its temparate conditions could make it attractive to Humans, so they sold the rights to colonize the world to Vekanda Leisure Colonies. Vekanda constructed a resort on the planet, to cater for wealthy clients and allow them to hunt local creatures and eat exotic food. However, Vekanda eventually experienced financial problems and abandoned the world.[1]
Soon afterwards, pirates arrived on Volik. They based themselves in the abandoned resort and used the world as a safe harbor. However, the various different gangs would often declare war on each other to try and gain complete control of the world, resulting in frequent turf wars that would leave the world uninhabited for decades, until new criminals chose to settle there.[1]
Following the end of the Clone Wars, the Jedi MasterDorin Se'ol settled on Volik. He helped to rebuild the colony there and started training Force-sensitives. His community grew in strength and eventually drove the criminals off Volik. However, when the Sith LordDarth Vader learned that Se'ol was on Volik, he led an Imperial attack on the world. Se'ol was killed, but was able to distract Vader long enough for his students to escape.[1]
Volik remained uninhabited until the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War. A group of Force-sensitive pacifists discovered the holocron of Master Se'ol and from it, they learned about Volik. They traveled to the world and stayed there until the end of the conflict.[1]
Wildlife was common on Volik; predators could be found on the planet's plains, while birds and other types of aerial creature chose to live near the planet's mountains. Species of plant that grew on the world included bannak trees, tanna trees and the mumau root. The most common species on animal on Volik was the reyko, a type of docile herd animal.[1]
