Von Asch was a former TIE Fighter Air Marshal who once aided Lando Calrissian.

Kine and the TIE Pirates attempted to trap Von Asch into rejoining the Galactic Empire. Asch quickly rejected the offer, claiming that the pirates were a disgrace to the Empire. The pirates pulled blasters on Asch in response to his insult, but Lando quickly finished them. Just as they appeared to have the situation under control, Kine pulled out a lightsaber. He was about to kill Isolde Siro when Von Asch jumped in the way; he succeeded in saving Siro's life, but was mortally wounded in the process. When Siro asked Asch why he saved her, as they often found themselves at odds, he said: "Because you are strong in ways others cannot perceive...you have a destiny."
Von Asch did live to see another day, being recovered after the stab.
