[edit] Characteristics

Jango Fett's holster belt.

The WESTAR-34 fired powerful bolts which were very effective at close range. The blaster was designed specifically for sustained close-range use, utilizing its dallorian construction to absorb more heat than a standard blaster. The pistol's expensive custom-made finish made it impervious to furnace fire. They are also small and compact enough to fit into a jet pack.

[edit] History

Jango Fett wielded twin, custom-made WESTAR-34s during his career as a bounty hunter, and became a proficient gunslinger. During his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Kamino, Jango lost one of his WESTARs to the raging sea. He continued to use his remaining blaster against Jedi Knights on Geonosis, killing Coleman Trebor. Jango lost his second blaster to Mace Windu's lightsaber seconds before Mace decapitated him. Quinlan Vos also carried one of these when he was undercover as Korto Vos. After Jango Fett's death, Boba acquired two custom WESTAR-34s that Jango Fett had specially made to fit Boba. Another notable user of the WESTAR-34 is Kal Skirata.

[edit] Behind the scenes

In the animated segment of The Star Wars Holiday Special, Boba Fett uses a blaster that looks remarkably like the WESTAR-34 blaster pistol that his father uses in Attack of the Clones. Whether this inspired the WESTAR-34's design is unknown.

It is possible the name is a reference to old western movies, where gunslingers would twirl their guns around on their fingers, much like Jango does. (One of the prop guns had to be modified with a full-loop trigger guard so the actor could twirl it.)
