"He's got one of those street names, Wire. He's a Bothan, fairly short for his species with a pale fur. You should be able to find him in the Dearic cantina."
Veega Madish, to a spacer[1]

Wire was a male Bothan information broker who lived on Talus during the Galactic Civil War.

Biography[]

"Our intel points to an information broker in Dearic, Talus. He was seen with the pilot about a week ago. Find out what he knows and see if you can track down the pilot."
Lieutenant Monsul, to a spacer[1]

After the Battle of Yavin, Wire resided in the city of Dearic, on the planet Talus, and frequented the local cantina.[1] In 1 ABY,[2] a smuggler by the name Cal Handro came to the Bothan because he was trying to get information on who was out to kill him. Wire discovered that the pilot was wanted dead by Trussk, a slavemaster of the Blackscale Clan who considered that Handro was interfering in their business by shipping slaves for a rival Trandoshan clan. A few days after Wire talked to him,[1] the smuggler was shot down above Naboo's moon of Rori and disappeared. Spacers recruited by both the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire quickly started to search for the missing pilot.[3] The spacers eventually encountered Wire in the Dearic Cantina. The Bothan information broker accepted to share information about Cal Handro but first requested them to help him with a job. The spacers therefore traveled to the Corellian system and successfully defended the freighter of a smuggler working for Wire against attacks from Black Sun pirates. In exchange, the Bothan gave the location of Trussk's fortress on Naboo to the spacers.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Wire was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts.[1] The game was shut down on December 15, 2011.[4] Wire was added to the game with the third chapter of the "Secrets of the Syren" quest line, released with the "Publish 19", on June 29, 2005.[5] The "Secrets of the Syren" story arc was removed from the game with the "Chapter 1," published on June 8, 2006, due to the major changes planed for Rori with the introduction of the Battle of Restuss.[6]

  2. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
