- "I've always thought that tie in novels were professionally produced fanfic -- and if they're not, there's something wrong."
- ―Karen Miller
The term "fanon" is used to refer to fan-made fiction. Fan fiction (also spelled fanfiction and often abbreviated to fanfic) is a story written by fans that takes place in an established fictional universe, such as Star Wars. Such fiction is unrecognized by LucasFilm and is therefore non-canon. However, after the announcement by Dave Filoni on March 31st, 2012, and Wookieepedia's merger with SWfanon, Fanon is now allowed at Wookieepeida.
Fanon made official canonEdit
Fanon is occasionally adopted by Expanded Universe authors. One instance of this was the 501st Legion, a clone trooper unit that is named after a real charity organization. The fanon—or simply elements of it like the name in that case—thereby becomes canonical.
