- Periodically, there comes a time on Wookieepedia when the wiki finds itself in need of new administrators. And occasionally a distinguished user makes enough of an impact on the community that his or her name gets called for the admin team. Even rarer still is when these two needs come to a head at the same time. Thus it is that I present to you, the Wookieepedia community, Xd1358 for adminship consideration. Our admin ranks have been on a slow decline for a while now. Since last March, we've lost four admins, including two BCs, while adding only two new ones, and still many of those who retain their position at present have seen their activity diminish significantly. In this time of need, I believe Xd has established himself as the most deserving candidate going. We should all be familiar with his credentials as a member of the FAN, GAN, and CAN, and with his regular attention to site maintenance and upkeep, but above all of that, he's become a veteran leader. He has consistently demonstrated his ability to take charge of a site project or initiative in place of admins or users more senior than him. He routinely shows a fair and restrained approach to others around him, most significantly new users to the site. And he commands a technical expertise that rivals or exceeds our most knowledgeable admins. Additionally, as a native Finnish user, he presents an invaluable asset as a liaison to one of the most active foreign userbases contributing to our wiki these days, not to mention that he's active and patrolling the site and IRC daily during our "down hours." Xd is a trusted and well-rounded user with a credible track record, and this is the next step in his progression as one Wookieepedia's best contributors today. - A large support! I don't know what more can be said. Tope already pointed out what a great user Xd is and what great potential he has to be an admin. He is a civil user and a great and devoted editor. Xd deserves this honor.--Cal Jedi (Personal Comm Channel) 23:06, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
- A long diatribe on his qualifications from my point of view is unnecessary. Xd knows how highly I regard him and I think Tope said it better than I ever could. A full support. OLIOSTER (talk) 23:10, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
- JMAS Hey, it's me! 23:14, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
- Admins are those who are already admins in everything but name, and that's been the case here, as I and others who've worked closely with him can attest. Xd has shown substantial capability in responsibility and conflict resolution, and he will be a great asset to the admin team. :) CC7567 (talk) 23:19, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
- Even though he is part of an evil Scandinavian plot to take over Wookieepedia, there are so many evil plots going on right now that it won't hurt anything to let them have this. (

Optional candidate Q&A[]
- Why do you want to become an administrator?
- I think sysop tools would help me serve the site better. As Tope said above I'm on during the "silent hours" when Western Europe is working and the Americans are sleep. I also happen to have experience with mediawiki admin tools (not that they are really compliated).
- In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
- The role of an administrator really is a technical one, as normal users can still do most thing. Admins just have a couple of extra buttons. Of course, users probably respect administrators and especially new users leave messages to admins about how the site works. I suppose administrators are the "leaders" of the site, but as I said normal users can do most thing, including dispute resolution.
- In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
- It's a bit of both, but more technical. Per my answer above, normal users still can do most things. The political side is really carrying out community decisions such as CT and TC threads. Of course, as a separate user level the admin position is naturally somewhat political. While normal users may choose to just improve the site by editing the mainspace, admins have the duty to ensure that the wiki is running smoothly and that no users are treated bad.
- How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
- Admins should behave like normal users. They certainly do not stand over normal users, they just have a few more buttons and responsibilities. Threatening normal users with your sysop tools is really bad, but I don't think there's been any problems recently (by that I mean a few years) where an admin used their tools abusively towards normal users.
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- Not that I can remember, no. If it ever would happen, I'd try to deal with it as calmly as possible and most likely asking another administrator for advice/intervening.
- Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- I like all my GAs. I ought to write another soon. :P As for other contributions… I kind of revamped the wiki's quote template system almost single-handedly, and I'm quite pleased with that considering they really a relatively big thing on the wiki.
- What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
- Deletion. As a "silent hour" editor, there are often nonsense articles that remain pretty long on the wiki. I also look forward to doing admin requests such as protection requests. Maybe I'll eventually start closing community discussions such as CT threads as well. I'll be happy to use my tools for whatever is needed.
- How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, FA, GA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
- I think that's really important. As the ones in charge of keeping the site working, admins naturally need to also voice their opinion on community discussions. As for the article nominations pages, I don't think it's really that important. That's the territory of the review panels, not admins. The majority of the review panel members are also administrators. The nomination pages are a good place to show leadership skills, though.
- Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
- It totally depends on the situation. If the action does good to the site, why punish? If the action is maliciously intended, however, something needs to be done. That said, this definitely is no problem in the current admin team.
- What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
- I rarely welcome users. The only time I really do it is when I have something else than the {{W}} template to slap on their talk page.
It's good that some people welcome new users; it encourages the new users and gives them advice. Of course, this is usually performed before the user has actually edited (new users log ftw.) so most times you don't have to check out the contribs. I think all users except those rare trolls that have nothing to contribute with should be welcomed. Welcoming productive IPs is also good; some day they might register and become a really valuable contributor.
- I rarely welcome users. The only time I really do it is when I have something else than the {{W}} template to slap on their talk page.
- How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
- If I made an obvious mistake, I really wouldn't mind. It would be polite to leave me a note on my talk page, though. Some people could find it inappropriate, so I'd most likely leave them a message on their talk page, asking what's up.
- How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
- I'd warn the user like normally. If it would be really obscene and vulgar material, a block would be in place. I really wouldn't do anything special if it was my user page instead of someone else's.
- Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
- If they are disrupting the site, they shouldn't be here. Considering they are established users, they do know the policies and thus have no excuse to disrupt Wookieepedia.
- If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
- Making Monobook the only skin!
- Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
- Depends if it was just filled or if I just drunk from it.
- Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
- It is alright as it is.
- Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
- I'm on there about always. :3
- How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
- If they do it in good faith, it's okay. If they just want to change the wiki into a board or somesuch, then it's not good.
- How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
- Nuku told me there is about 11390625.
- Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
- I think Ahsoka Tano is pretty badass.
- What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
- Consensus can override existing policy. Of course there needs to be some sort of voting policy so that consensus can be achieved... Infinite loop maybe?
- Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
- I'm part of both the AgriCorps and the Inq. I suppose this gives me some sort of leadership experience. ^.^
- What is your attitude towards users who have quit the site or have been banned, but still continue to attempt to influence the site in any way?
- If they've quit, they can still try to affect the site in a good way. If they've been banned, nope. What would be the point of a ban if the user still could affect wiki matters?
- What is your wiki philosophy?
- "Don't delete the FAN." Also, I'm an inclusionist. I think. CC says it good, too. 1358 (Talk) 10:33, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
