XoXaan was one of the first Sith Lords, one of the Dark Jedi who abandoned the order to study the Dark side of the Force, initiating, along with her brethren, the philosophy of the Sith after arriving on Ziost and taking over the society of the Sith people.

XoXaan was once a member of the Jedi Order. But she and others became corrupted by the dark side and went to war with the Jedi using dark side creations. After what would later be called as the Hundred-Year Darkness, the renegade Jedi were exiled from the Order and the Republic. They came to Korriban, where they met the ancient Sith and soon took up the mantles of Sith Lords.
Thousands of years later, when former Jedi Knight turned Bounty hunter A'Sharad Hett, came to Korriban to hunt and kill his quarry Resk, XoXaan called to him from the depths of her tomb. He found a Sith holocron containing her teachings. The Sith Lady's spirit soon came out of the holocron, finally having found the one person "who has served the light and found it empty... who has known anger, hate... and despair." She taught him the true meaning to be Sith. For years, she instructed him in the ways of the order. When his training was complete, Hett left to challenge Darth Sidious and Vader, only to find that they were gone and a New Republic had replaced the Galactic Empire. Despaired that he went through all his training for nothing, Hett left known space, where he encountered and was captured by the Yuuzhan Vong. With the torture he sustained at their hands and XoXaan's teachings, it eventually led him to his rebirth as Darth Krayt and the formation of the New Sith Order. When Krayt eventually took over Coruscant, he created a statue of XoXaan within the Temple of the Sith in honor of his mentor.
Darth Wyyrlok, with his vast knowledge of Sith rituals, had hoped that Xoxaan's knowledge could help save Lord Krayt from the ravages of his Yuuzhan Vong affliction. However, XoXaan's teachings failed to halt the Dark Lord's rapid degeneration.
