- ―A Noghri guard on the planet Yalara
The Yalarans were a sentient, yet primitive, species native to the Wild Space planet Yalara. Their homeworld was hidden by a cloaking device created by the Jedi Master Broden Kel Verdox, who believed that the Yalarans were not yet prepared for integration into the galaxy. Later, however, Noghri commandos traveled to Yalara, killed all the Yalarans, and set about guarding the device.
Society and cultureEdit
The Yalarans were a species native to Yalara, a planet located in Wild Space, on the fringes of the southernmost borders of the galaxy. Although sentient, Yalarans had only reached a level of technology that was primitive in comparison to the spacefaring species of the galaxy.
The Yalarans were a peaceable species with only primitive technology at the time that Broden Kel Verdox, a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order became aware of them. Kel Verdox believed that the species was too vulnerable to be integrated into galactic society, so the Jedi created a cloaking device to shield their planet from discovery.
In 14 ABY, Tionne Solusar, a Jedi scholar of the New Jedi Order, learned of the planet through a Holocron. Once the Jedi Order became aware that the planet had been discovered by another organization, Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker, dispatched Jedi Jaden Korr to investigate. There, Korr discovered members of the Disciples of Ragnos—a Sith cult hostile to the New Jedi Order—fighting against Noghri commandos, who were guarding the cloaking device. Korr defeated both groups and finally, warned by Skywalker that the cloaking device could be too powerful to let slip into hostile hands, used explosives to destroy the device. Skywalker later speculated that Darth Vader, a Dark Lord of the Sith, must have became aware of Yalara and ordered the Noghri to wipe out the Yalarans and guard the cloaking device.
Behind the scenesEdit
The Yalarans were created by developers at Raven Software for their video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, released in 2003. The Yalarans did not appear in the game but were mentioned in the backstory of one of the game's levels. In the cutscene that concluded this level, the spoken dialog and the on-screen text differed. The dialogue said that the Noghri were dispatched to "wipe out the Yalarans and guard the cloaking device," whereas the on-screen text said that the Noghri were "dispatched to wipe out the Yalarans guarding the cloaking device." This article favors the spoken dialog.
