"That's right. Wrecker here cut off the queen's stinger while she was still alive. That's why all those Yalvik males tried to eat us."
"Uh, technically they were trying to mate with us."
―Hunter and Tech recount Clone Force 99's encounter with the Yalviks[src]

Yalvik were a species found on Yalvik Prime. During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems several Yalvik were involved in an Insurrection on Yalvik Prime, during which they came into conflict with the Republic's elite Clone Force 99.

Biology and appearance

"And for your information, the stinger of a Yalvik queen is a delicacy on some planets."
―Tech informs his fellow clones of trivia on a Yalvik queen's stinger[src]

Yalvik biology included at least two sexes, male and female. Some females were classified as queens and possessed stingers. Male members of the species could only be killed with bladed weapons and in some cases would attempt to mate with nearby organisms if a queen's stinger was cut off.[1]

History

"Ever fought a male Yalvik?"
"Um, no, can't say that I have."
"You're lucky. Only way to kill 'em is with one of these."
―Wrecker tells CT-5597 that Yalvik males can only be killed with a blade[src]

During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, an insurrection occurred on Yalvik Prime prompting the Republic to send an elite group of clone troopers known as Clone Force 99 to deal with it. The clones came into conflict with a group of Yalvik while trying to put the down the insurrection, and one of the clones known as Wrecker chopped off the stinger of a Yalvik queen while she was still alive. This triggered several Yalvik males to try and mate with the clones, which the clone Hunter mistook for an attempt to eat them. Fighting the Yalvik delayed the clones in traveling to the planet Anaxes for their next mission. Once they reached the world, Hunter and Wrecker recounted their fight against the Yalvik to the clones CC-2224, CT-5597, CT-6116 and CT-7567, and during the story another Force 99 clone known as Tech corrected Hunter on saying that the male Yalvik had been attempting to eat them instead of mating with them. The stingers of Yalvik queens were considered delicacies on several worlds.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Yalvik were first mentioned in The Bad Batch, and episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. The episode was written to be part of the show's sixth season, but The Clone Wars was canceled before it was made and released. The unfinished story reels of the episodes were then shown at Celebration Anaheim in 2015, before being released on StarWars.com later that year as part of The Clone Wars Legacy.
