"Surrender, thieves! You are at my mercy!"
―Yushyn orders the rebels to surrender.[src]

Yushyn was the boss of a Mining Guild Asteroid Belt Gas Refinery in the third year before the Battle of Yavin. His refinery, staffed by Rodian employees, refined clouzon-36 gas which was used as fuel by the Galactic Empire. When a group of space-faring creatures called purrgil began trying to eat the gas, he ordered his staff to kill them in order to prevent loss of the resource. During a round of purrgil shooting, the refinery was attacked by a band of rebels who were trying to steal some of the refinery's fuel for a larger rebellion and their own starship, the Ghost. Yushyn was dragged down into the planetoid's depths by a purrgil during the confrontation, which ended with the rebels destroying the refinery and making off with the fuel.

Yushyn and the Rodians

Yushyn ordered his men to kill the purrgil.

Three years before the Battle of Yavin,[2] Yushyn was under the employ of the Mining Guild as the boss of a Asteroid Belt Gas Refinery built on a small planetoid[1] in the far reaches of space.[3] The facility was used to collect clouzon-36 gas, and apart from Yushyn, was staffed by members of the Rodian species. When a herd of deep space creatures called purrgil approached the facility in order to feed on the gas, Yushyn sent out a pair of the Guild's modified TIE fighters to destroy them.[1]

Yushyn later found two of his Rodian workers firing on the purrgil from the refinery with a blaster cannon, and questioned why the creatures were still present. After learning that his fighters had stopped responding to hails, he demanded that the cannons in the base keep firing on the purrgil till all of them were dead. The TIEs had infact been destroyed by the Ghost, a rebel starship whose crew were searching the area for the refinery with the aim of stealing it's fuel for their own ship and the rest of the rebel fleet. Using the purrgil as a distraction, three members of the Ghost's crew dropped into the refinery from the ship's position in the upper atmosphere of the planetoid and began battling the Rodian workers.[1]

Battling the rebelsEdit

"Wait! Keep away. Keep away!"
―Yushyn is trapped in by the purrgil[src]

While the Jedi apprentice Ezra Bridger covered them on a captured cannon, his master Kanan Jarrus and the Mandalorian Sabine Wren began securing a landing zone for the Ghost to land and begin refueling. Having been alerted to the attack, Yushyn ordered his men to protect a shipment of fuel destined for the Galactic Empire at all costs, and then made his way out of the refinery to join the battle. Ordering his remaining two fighters to launch and attack the rebels, who were attempting to load the Imperial shipment onto the Ghost, Yushyn demanded that the thieves surrender to him. The fighting ceased momentarily as the refinery boss waited for the rebel's answer, but erupted again when the purrgil emerged from the clouzon-36 surrounding the refinery and attacked the Guild TIE fighters, having allied with Bridger.[1]

Yushyn and the purrgil

Yushyn was surrounded and dragged away by the purrgil.

Seeing that the Ghost had finished loading the shipment and was taking off, Yushyn ordered his men to concentrate fire on it rather than the purrgil. Heading off on his own to try and provide cover for his men, the refinery boss suddenly found himself trapped on one of the refinery's walkways between a pair of purrgil. Yelling at the creatures, Yushyn attempted to leap from the walkway after one lunged at him, but was grabbed up in its mouth and dragged down[1] into the planetoid's depths[3] beneath the refinery. Having collected the fuel they needed, the rebels then fired upon the refinery from the Ghost and destroyed it, leaving the planetoid alongside the purrgil, who had consumed their share of gas.[1]

Personality and traitsEdit

"Blast those disgusting things!"
―Yushyn orders his men to fire on the purrgil during the battle[src]

Yushyn was a male member of a species with bipedal humanoid bodies covered in brown fur and skin. He had two black eyes with lids that closed horizontally, which were located on protrusions from his face set above five small tentacle like appendages surrounding his mouth.[1] He was capable of breathing unfiltered clouzon-36.[3] Yushyn led the operation at the refinery with an unrelenting fervor[4] and spoke Galactic Basic to his Rodian workers. He considered the purrgil disgusting[1] and coldly[3] order his men to kill them in order to stop them consuming gas.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

Yushyn original concept

Yushyn's design was based on concept art drawn by Ralph McQuarrie.

Yushyn first appeared in The Call, the thirteenth episode in the second season of the Star Wars Rebels television show. In the episode he was voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who also provided dialogue for one of the Rodian workers.[1] The character's design was based on a piece of alien bounty hunter concept art drawn by Ralph McQuarrie for Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Concept art of Yushyn for the Rebels episode was produced by artist JP Balmet.[5]
