Zafiel Snopps was a male Human from Corulag who was the dominant political figure on his homeworld, and indeed in much of Bormea Sector, from before the Clone Wars into the New Republic.
[edit] Biography
Originally a Senator under the Galactic Republic, Snopps was the perfect contrast to Senator Mon Mothma of neighboring Chandrila. Personally affable but politically ruthless, he combined his political career with a role as an industrial tycoon (perhaps with Sienar Fleet Systems) and he saw the purpose of politics as maintaining a stable and favorable climate for business growth, rather than implementing an ideological agenda.
He became an early supporter of Palpatine, for which he earned Corulag political rewards under the New Order, notably an important Imperial Academy campus for his homeworld, and also his own appointment as Governor of the planet as well as Senator, reducing the House of Citizens to a quiescent formality. Since Moff Jamson Caglio spent most of his time on Coruscant, Snopps came to dominate the Imperial regime throughout Bormea Sector.
After Senatorial authority was dissolved, Snopps remained in power as Governor of Corulag—and he seems to have also acquired a rank in the Imperial military, although his duties remained primarily bureaucratic, and his government was never obsessed with enforcing the ideological tenets of the New Order. Eventually, after the Battle of Endor, he took his planet into the New Republic—where he was re-elected to the Senate, a sign of his political resilience and his continuing popularity with the people he represented.
Snopps' pastimes included pistol shooting and playing the harp, and he was also fluent in Herglese.
He was the father of several children, including Regenald Hanniper Snopps III.
[edit] Behind the scenes
It is possible that Rebel commando Judder Page was also his son: Page's father is known to have been an Imperial Senator from Corulag, but he never seems to be referred to as "Senator Page", and Snopps was Senator for Corulag throughout the Imperial era.
